FATHER MELVIN DOUCETTE

"Without Me your life will be a failure"

Tuesday, September 02, 2008

Dear Friends,

Asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus said in reply, "The coming of the kingdom of God cannot be observed, and no one will announce, 'Look, here it is,' or, 'There it is.' For behold, the kingdom of God is among you." Luke 17: 20 - 21

We had a very wet and cold day yesterday for the beginning of September. It rained the whole day and it was very windy. Today the sun should shine for most of the day and it will be warmer.

I went to the Manor at 1:30 p.m. yesterday for the celebration of Holy Mass with the residents. Fewer people came to the chapel, as they were not told that I was coming. As yesterday was Labour Day, the workers thought that I would not come and did not prepare the people for Holy Mass.

As I arrived there early, they were able to organize a small group to come and take part. Today I will celebrate Holy Mass at the Immaculate Conception Church, Palmer Road, as the parish priest is gone to a funeral. I will also expose the large host in the monstrance and place it on the altar after Mass for Eucharistic Adoration that will last the whole day.

Here is another message of Our Lord given to Joseph. Jesus spoke to him in these words saying, "I came into the world to establish the Kingdom of God in your midst. You cannot see the Kingdom of God, as it is present in the hearts of believers.

Every person who believes in Me and follows Me is a member of the Kingdom of God. The usual way of entering the Kingdom is by baptism and you become a member of My Church. Baptism is only the entrance but as a member you are to live your Christian faith. If I live in your heart then indeed you are a member of the Kingdom of God.

It is important that you be a full member of the Kingdom, so that you can enter heaven. You can lose your membership in the Kingdom by committing a grievous sin, but when you repent of your sin through the sacrament of penance, your membership is restored. What is of great importance is that you have a sincere and close friendship with Me. Work hard every day to grow in this friendship and I will give you the graces you need to always be a member of the Kingdom of God.

There are many people today who were baptized and used to practice their faith as Christians but for some reason they were attracted by money or earthly interests and stopped their prayers and their attendance at church. Today they are very far from Me. In fact they consider Me a stranger. They believe they do not need to have Me in their life.

They have this false idea that they can do it on their own. I can assure them that soon there will be a crisis in their life and they will fall apart. They will not know what to do. I wish to repeat again that you cannot do anything without Me. Without Me your life will be a failure. I call you back so that you may have a strong friendship with Me."

"I love a repented heart"

Monday, September 01, 2008

Dear Friends,

So to them Jesus addressed this parable. What man among you having a hundred sheep and losing one of them would not leave the ninety-nine in the desert and go after the lost one until he finds it? And when he does find it, he sets it on his shoulders with great joy and, upon his arrival home, he calls together his friends and neighbors and says to them, Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep. I tell you, in just the same way there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who have no need of repentance. Luke 15: 3 7

It was cloudy yesterday morning but the sun came out in the afternoon and it was windy. It rained during the night and this morning it is cloudy again and the wind is blowing hard. We will have more rain later on.

I celebrated Holy Mass yesterday morning at the Church of the Assumption, Miminegash, at 9:00 a.m. A good group of people attended and participated in the Mass. I had some visitors yesterday. Some came as far away as Ontario. Today I will go to the Manor in Alberton for Holy Mass at 1:30 p.m. and tomorrow morning I will travel to Charlottetown for Barbara?s funeral, the wife of my nephew Wayne. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. On Friday evening I will celebrate a Healing Mass at the little shrine of Our Lady of Prince Edward Island at 7:30 p.m.

Here is the message of Our Lord addressed to Joseph. Jesus spoke to him these words, I am the man who lost one sheep and left the ninety-nine in the desert in search of the lost one. I searched until I found it and carried it home on my shoulders. This is a parable and it is explained in this way. The lost sheep is that person that has sinned and is lost. He has turned his back to me and he is traveling in darkness. He does not know where he is going and he cannot find the way home.

I am the one who goes in search of that person. I will not stop until I find him and bring him back to Me. Anyone who is involved in alcohol, drugs, marital infidelity, gambling, stealing, the occult, sexual perversion, etc. is that lost person who is following another road. If he remains in that wrong road, he will never be saved. I take the initiative to follow him and give him the grace to repent of his sins. He will resist but in time I hope he will accept the graces I give him and he will come back.

Pray, My friends, for all those who have left the way I have pointed out to them. Your prayers are powerful so that he may receive the graces he needs to come back to Me. What rejoicing there is in heaven for a sinner who repents and becomes a member of My Kingdom! There is more rejoicing over the repented one than over the ninety-nine who do not need to repent. In fact all need to repent of their sins because all have sinned. I love a repented heart and I come to make My home in the heart of such a person.

Medjugorje Day By Day Sept 03 - THE KINGDOM OF LOVE

St. Teresa of Avila wrote of the Holy Eucharist: "If when He lived in this world, He healed the sick by the mere touch of His garments, what doubt is there but that He will perform miracles for us? He is so intimate with us. If we have a lively faith He will grant us what we ask of Him."

Quote of the Day - The proof of love is in the works. Where love exists, it works great things. But when it ceases to act, it ceases to exist. -Pope St. Gregory the Great

Today's Tidbit - In 2000 Pope John Paul II is beatified four people, including Pope John XXIII.

Mother Teresa -
A joyful heart is like a sunshine of God's love.

Meditations by Padre Pio - (You who are responsible for souls) try with love, with much love, with all your love; and if that is useless… punish because Jesus who is our model, taught us this, creating Paradise but also Hell

Archbishop Fulton Sheen -
"

God can reason with anyone
"God speaks more frequently through our subconscious mind, probably, than through our conscious mind, simply because our self-consciousness puts up obstacles to Him. God can guide us quite naturally in a particular direction without our being aware of it. What was it, for example, that induced Paul Claudel, an agnostic and unbeliever, to enter Notre Dame Cathedral at midnight on Christmas, and ultimately to receive the gift of faith?

Here was a reasonable man who was guided unreasonably. Very often stupid people come to God through very reasonable arguments, and reasonable people come to God through no argument at all."

St. Faustina's diary http://www.marian.org/directory_flash.html -

I am to write down the encounters of my soul with You, O God, at the moments of Your special visitations. I am to write about You, O Incomprehensible in mercy towards my poor soul. Your holy will is the life of my soul.

I have received this order through him who is for me Your representative here on earth, who interprets Your holy will to me. Jesus, You see how difficult it is for me to write, how unable I am to put down clearly what I experience in my soul. O God, can a pen write down that for which many a time there are no words? But You give the order to write, O God; that is enough for me. (6)

O my Jesus, You have tested me so many times in this short life of mine! I have come to understand so many things, and even such that now amaze me. Oh, how good it is to abandon oneself totally to God and to give Him full freedom to act in one's soul! (134)

MEDJUGORJE DAY BY DAY
These thoughts for a day are taken from a daily meditation book based on the Messages of Our Lady of Medjugorje by Father Richard J. Beyer, Ave Maria Press.

SEPT 4 - THE KINGDOM OF LOVE
The Queen of Peace speaks of love today:
I wish to engrave in every heart the sign of love. If you love all mankind, then there will be peace within you. When you are at peace with all men, it is the kingdom of love (Locutionists Jelena & Mirijana January 18, 1984).

And out of love, Jesus heals the blind beggar Bartimaeus:

Bartimaeus, son of Timaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the roadside. When he heard that it was Jesus ob Nazareth, he began to shout out and say, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" Many sternly ordered him to be quiet, but he cried out even loudly, "Son of David, "Call him here," and they called the blind man, saying to him "Take heart; get up, he is calling you."

So throwing off his cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus. Then Jesus said to him, "What do you want me to do for you?" The blind man said to him, "My teacher, let me see again," Jesus said to him "Go; your faith has made you well." Immediately he regained his sight and followed him on the way (Mk 10:46-52).

Reflection:
Beggars were a common sight in most towns in first-century Israel. Since most occupations of that day required physical labor, anyone with a crippling disease or handicap was at a severe disadvantage and was usually forced to beg, even though the Law of Moses commanded care for such needy people.

Blindness was considered a curse from God due to sin; but Christ refuted this idea when he reached out in love to heal those who were blind. It was to the ignored, oppressed and despised of society that Christ went to proclaim in both word and deed the kingdom of love. He charges us with the same mission, as does Our Lady of Medjugorje: to bring God's love to the ignored, oppressed, and despised of our own community.

Application:
Today, look about to see those in special need of your care and attention. Pray for a deeper measure of God 's love to help the needy

Medjugorje Day By Day Sept 02 - SATAN WANTS YOU

"Let us receive the Bread of Angels with great faith and with a great flame of love in our hearts. Let us wait for this most tender love in order to be consoled in this life with His kiss. Happy we are, if we receive from the Lord the consolation of this kiss.

Each time you go to Holy Communion, tell Jesus that you love Him and He will tell you, in the depths of your heart, that He loves you, too. This is Jesus spiritually kissing you" (St. Padre Pio).

Sept 2 Quote of the Day - The devil strains every nerve to secure the souls which belong to Christ. We should not grudge our toil in wresting them from Satan, and giving them back to God. -St. Sebastian

Today's Tidbit - A beatitude is a literary form of both the Old and New Testaments in which blessings are promised to persons for various reasons. They are mentioned throughout the Book of Psalms and in several other places in the Old Testament. The most famous beatitudes are those given by Christ describing the qualities of Christian perfection. These are found in the fifth chapter of Matthew and the sixth chapter of Luke.

Mother Teresa -
The very fact that God has placed a certain soul in your way is a sign that God wants to do something for him. It is not chance--it has been planned by God. We are bound in conscience to help. If a soul desires God, he has the right to be given the means to go to Him. No one has the right to stand between. Look at the cross and you will know what one soul means to Jesus.

Meditations by Padre Pio - We must continually implore two things from our most tender Lord: that he increase within us love and fear, for this will make us fly in the ways of the Lord. It will make us careful where we set foot, make us see the things of the world for what they are and lead us to beware of negligence. Then when love and fear have kissed, it is no longer in our power to give our affection to the things of this world.

Archbishop Fulton Sheen -
2 Bringing order out of chaos

"We say every man has `religion' because nothing that is in man escapes the Providence and Mercy of God. It is just as easy for God to work in a cellar as a first floor, as well in the realm of emotions as in the realm of reason.

The very uneasiness of the subconscious mind with its fears and dreads and anxieties is a kind of chaos for what might be called an anti-peace. But this chaos might be likened to the chaos in the second verse of Genesis, when the first creative word was rejected and left nothing behind but disorder.

And over that chaos the Spirit hovered like a dove bringing order out of the disorder of creation, as the Holy Spirit, later on, breathing over Mary, brought order out of the chaos of humanity."

St. Faustina's diary http://www.marian.org/directory_flash.html -

What am I, and who are You, O Lord, King of eternal glory? O my heart, are you aware of who is coming to you today? Yes, I know, but-strangely-I am not able to grasp it. Oh, if He were just a king, but He is the King of kings, the Lord of lords. Before Him, all power and dominion tremble. He is coming to my heart today. But I hear Him approaching. I go out to meet Him and invite Him.

When He entered the dwelling of my heart, it was filled with such reverence that it fainted with fear, falling at His feet. Jesus gives her His hand and graciously permits her to take her place beside Him. He reassures her, saying, See, I have left My heavenly throne to become united with you. What you see is just a tiny part and already your soul swoons with love. How amazed will your heart be when you see Me in all My glory. (1810)

But I want to tell you that eternal life must begin already here on earth through Holy Communion. Each Holy Communion makes you more capable of communing with God throughout eternity.

And so, my King, I do not ask You for anything, although I know that You can give me everything. I ask You for one thing only: remain forever the King of my heart; that is enough for me. (1811)

MEDJUGORJE DAY BY DAY
These thoughts for a day are taken from a daily meditation book based on the Messages of Our Lady of Medjugorje by Father Richard J. Beyer, Ave Maria

Sept 2 - SATAN WANTS YOU

To Ivan's prayer group, regarding Satan :

My dear children, tonight your Mother warns you that during these times Satan wants you and is looking for you! It takes only a little spiritual emptiness to allow Satan to work in you. For this reason your Mother wishes you to begin to pray, for your weapon against Satan is prayer. In prayer with the heart you will overcome him (Visionary Prayer Group September 5, 1988).

In Mark's gospel, Jesus confront the Evil One :

Then Jesus asked him, « What is your name? » He replied, « My name is Legion; for we are many. » He begged him earnestly not to send them out of the country. Now there on the hillside a great herd of swine was feeding ; and the unclean spirits begged him, « Send us into the swine; let us enter them. So he gave them permission. And the unclean spirits came out and entered the swine; and the herd, numbering about two thousand, rushed down the steep bank into the seas, and were drowned in the sea (Mk 5 :9-13).

Reflection:

As we see, Jesus brings about the healing of this demon-possessed man by commanding the legion of demons to come out. By this action, Christ revealed his identity as the Son of God, with authority even over the powers of evil. Later, through his cross and resurrection, he would win the eternal victory over these powers, establishing a kingdom free of sin, evil and death.

Through prayer and discernment, we can often recognize activities in which the demonic is involved. Besides the raw occult, the Evil One can subtly use a number of channels to influence us, including spiritism, horoscopes, mediums, ouija boards, the New Age movement , and the like. Out of concern and love for her children, the church has always condemned such practices as contrary to the teaching and spirit of Christ, who alone is our way, truth ,and life.

Application:
In what areas of your life are you most susceptible to the power of the Evil One? Pray for discernment and strength.

Medjugorje Day By Day Sept 01 - EVERYTHING IS UNFOLDING

Sept 1 Quote of the Day - To pray for those who are in mortal sin is the best kind of almsgiving. For the love of God, always remember such souls when you pray. -St. Theresa of Avila

Today's Tidbit - Someone who lives an eremitic lifestyle is known as a hermit or as an anchorite. This term is used to describe a kind of hermit living in complete isolation and devoting himself exclusively to exercises of religion and severe penance according to a rule and a way of life of his own devising. In early Christian times anchorites were the forerunners of the monastic life. The closest contemporary approach to the life of an anchorite is that of the Carthusian and Camaldolese hermits.

Mother Teresa -
Zeal for souls is the effect and the proof of true love of God. We cannot but be consumed with the desire for saving souls, the greatest and dearest interest of Jesus. Therefore, zeal is the test of love and the test of zeal is devotedness to His cause--spending life and energy in the work of souls.

Meditations by Padre Pio - We must love, love, love and nothing else.

Archbishop Fulton Sheen -
The Age of Bad Conscience

"We live in what might be called the Age of Bad Conscience. We cover it up by denying responsibility; we find scapegoats; we attack religion and all who have to do with conscience as if their extinction might give us immunity from that distinction between right and wrong. If any science is unpopular today it is certainly theology, particularly when couched in the language of reason and concepts which are alien to our moods and frustrations. But this does not mean there is no religion in modern man. There is; but it has moved from the area of conscience to the subconscious. "

St. Faustina's diary http://www.marian.org/directory_flash.html -
Today, my preparation for the coming of Jesus is brief, but imprinted deeply with vehement love. The presence of God penetrates me and sets aflame my love for Him. There are no words; there is only interior understanding.

I drown completely in God, through love. The Lord approaches the dwelling of my heart. After receiving Communion, I have just enough presence of mind to return to my kneeler. At the same time, my soul is completely lost in God, and I no longer know what is going on about me. God gives me an interior knowledge of His Divine Being.

These moments are short, but penetrating. The soul leaves the chapel in profound recollection, and it is not easy to distract it. At such times, I touch the ground with only one foot, as it were. No sacrifice throughout such a day is either difficult or burdensome. Every situation evokes a new act of love. (1807)

Today, I invite Jesus to my heart, as Love. You are Love itself. All heaven catches the flame from You and is filled with love. And so my soul covets You as a flower yearns for the sun. Jesus, hasten to my heart, for You see that, as the flower is eager for the sun, so my heart is for You. I open the calyx of my heart to receive Your love. (1808)

MEDJUGORJE DAY BY DAY

These thoughts for a day are taken from a daily meditation book based on the Messages of Our Lady of Medjugorje by Father Richard J. Beyer, Ave Maria Press.
SEPT 1 - EVERYTHING IS UNFOLDING

On the anniversary of the apparitions in 1982, the Blessed Virgin said :

Thank the people in my name for their prayers, sacrifices, and acts of penance. Have them persevere in prayer, fasting, and conversion, and ask them to wait patiently for the realization of my promise. Everything is unfolding according to God's plan (First Year June 24, 1982). Matthew's gospel portrays Jesus himself fasting : Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. He fasted forty days and forty nights, and afterwards he was famished.

The tempter came and said to him, « If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread. » But he answered, « It is written, `One does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes form the mouth of God » (Mt 4 :1-4).

Reflection: Our Lady has often said that fasting and prayer are essential in achieving peace. Fr. Slavko Barbaric writes : Those who are assiduous in their prayer and fasting will attain absolute confidence in God; they will obtain the gifts of reconciliation and forgiveness, and thus serve the cause of peace; for peace originates in our hearts and form there spreads to our neighbors, and ultimately to the entire world.

Peace is not static; it is dynamic, flowing; therefore it can prosper only in the hearts of those who live the faith, who can love and forgive as a way of living. The Lord wishes that we fast and pray so that we can find our joy in him and in our neighbor, so that we can live in harmony with others and so create peace in ever widening circles.

Application: Today, simply reflect on the following : « Peace is not made at the council tables or by treaties, but in the hearts of men » (Woodrow Wilson).

DAILY OFFERING PRAYER - O Jesus, through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer You my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world. I offer them for all the intentions of Your Sacred Heart: the salvation of souls, reparation for sin, and the reunion of all Christians. I offer them for the intentions of our bishops and of all Apostles of Prayer, and in particular for those recommended by our Holy Father this month.

Meditations by Padre Pio - Padre Pio's Prayer After Holy Communion

Stay with me, Lord, for it is necessary to have You present so that I do not forget You. You know how easily I abandon You.

Stay with me, Lord, because I am weak and I need Your strength,
that I may not fall so often.

Stay with me, Lord, for You are my life and without You I am without fervor.

Stay with me, Lord, for You are my light and without You I am in darkness.

Stay with me, Lord, to show me Your will.

Stay with me, Lord, so that I hear Your voice and follow You.

Stay with me, Lord, for I desire to love You very much and always be in Your company.

Stay with me, Lord, if You wish me to be faithful to You.

Stay with me, Lord, as poor as my soul is I want it to be a place of consolation for You, a nest of Love.

Stay with me, Jesus, for it is getting late and the day is coming to a close and life passes, death, judgment and eternity approaches. It is necessary to renew my strength, so that I will not stop along the way and for that, I need You. It is getting late and death approaches, I fear the darkness, the temptations, the dryness, the cross, the sorrows. O how I need You, my Jesus, in this night of exile!

Stay with me tonight, Jesus, in life with all its dangers, I need You. Let me recognize You as Your disciples did at the breaking of the bread, so that the Eucharistic Communion be the Light which disperses the darkness, the force which sustains me, the unique joy of my heart.

Stay with me, Lord, because at the hour of my death, I want to remain united to You, if not by Communion, at least by grace and love.

Stay with me, Lord, for it is You alone I look for, Your Love, Your Grace, Your Will, Your Heart, Your Spirit, because I love You and ask no other reward but to love You more and more. With a firm love, I will love You with all my heart while on earth and continue to love You perfectly during all eternity. Amen.
