Prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary Protectress of Africa

Holy Mary, Mother of God, Protectress of Africa, you have given to the world the true Light, Jesus Christ. Through your obedience to the Father and the grace of the Holy Spirit, you have given us the source of our reconciliation and our justice, Jesus Christ, our peace and our joy.

Mother of Tenderness and Wisdom, show us Jesus, your Son and the Son of God. Guide our path of conversion, so that Jesus might shine his glory on us in every aspect of our personal, familial and social lives.

Mother, full of Mercy and Justice, through your docility to the Spirit, the Counselor, obtain for us the grace to be witnesses of the Risen Lord, so that we will increasingly become the salt of the earth and the light of the world.

Mother of Perpetual Help, we entrust to your maternal intercession the preparation and fruits of the Second Special Assembly for Africa. Queen of Peace, pray for us! Our Lady of Africa, pray for us!

Anastasius, the martyr at Antinoe, Kemet (313 A.D.)

Anatolius of Alexandria, Bishop. I was born in Alexandria, and eventually became a bishop. Long before the renaissance, or so-called the Age of Enlightenment, I was known a a scientist ,philospher. teacher and writer of mathmatics.

I guided the School of Aristotle at Alexandria, Kemet school of philosophy. My curriculum was based on Aristotle’s methods. I was humbled by St. Jerome commented favorably on my writing efforts.
I served in the local government. God allowed me to maintain my humility. But I still had faults. I loathed ignorance, teaching many who received the little knowledge I had. I understood and taught geometry, physics, rhetoric, dialectic, astronomy, and philosophy.

In 263 A.D. rebels fought against Rome. Alexandria was seiged, Starvation was rampant. As I had served in Alexandria government positions, I successfully meditated with Roman military authorities, allowing the sick and elderly to leave the besieged city.

I negotiated a pass for children, women, the sick and elderly out of the area. But because of the war, I left Alexandria, traveling to Caesaria in Palestine, and then to the Council of Antioch.
On the way to the Council of Antioch through Laodicea, I was offered post of bishop there staying 15 years. While there, a local bishop died, and I was appointed to the episcpate in Laodicea, Syria, serving 15 years. I died in 283 A.D. 3 July. I died in 283 A.D. 3 July.

Anianus of Alexandria, Bishop, second bishop of Alexandria. As soon Mark, the Evangelist entered the city gates of Alexandria, his sandal rap broke. He took it to this shoemaker, Anianus, who became Mark’s first Alexandria convert. After authorities martyred Mark during the reign Emperor Trajan’s reign (or the "eighth year of Nero”), Anianus succeeded him as second bishop of Alexandria. 25 April

Anihan (Moses the Black). I am also known as Moses the Ethiopian. Born 330 A.D.enslaved, but did not take too kindly to my unnatural condition. A Kemetian official called himself my owner.

I became a thief. The owner cast me from his household. I joined a gang of fellow robbers. Once, while being pursued for my acts, I sought sanctuary with monastery hermits at Petra, in the Scete desert.
The grace of God converted me. I became a monk, and then was ordained a priest. God gave me the grace of supernatural gifts. I became a pacifist.

Later, the monastery was attacked. I did not defend myself, though I could have done so. Martyred Berbers or Bedouins. 405 A.D. at Petra, Skete, Khemet. The Church of Al Adra (the Virgin) contains my remains. 28 Aug.

Antony of Kemet (Egypt), I am Antony (also known as Saint Anthony). I was 20 years old, a member of the Coptic Christian Catholic Rite. Around the year 270 A.D. I lived on a Nile Valley farm. My parents had died, leaving me to care for the estate and my younger sister.

At church service on one day, the gospel reading was Matt.19.21, and sayd, “If you wish to be perfect, go, and sell your possessions, and give the money to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.”
This was my clarion call, a direct word from God, Almighty. Scripture reading was directed to me.

I went home, and got rid of all I owned, to my neighbors my three hundred fertile lands. My other possessions and chattels I sold, giving the proceeds to the poor. I reserved a reasonable and necessary amount for my sister, then a young woman. (Vitae Patrum, I, Vita Antonii.2) Her care would be by the local community of women.

I chose to live in solitude, by him near my village. I supported myself, working with his hands. I made acquaintance with Christians also living in solitude. Their counsel and my constant prayer to the Almighty led me to find out how to serve God.

Solitude with silence I discovered became necessary. For 35 years, I grew in the contemplative and meditative life, and went further into the desert. When people learned of me and my way, others came to join.

God grace me with radiance, an ability to speak, and a humble dignity. Through God’s grace, I gained an even-tempered judgment.
Athanasius in writing of me said, “My way of life was the beginning of the 'peopling of the desert”.

Medjugorje Day By Day May 19 - PUT GOD FIRST IN YOUR FAMILIES

"The Eucharist came from the Paradise of Virginity [Our Lady]" (St. Albert the Great).

Mother Teresa

Today it is fashionable to talk about the poor. Unfortunately it is not fashionable to talk with them.

Meditations by Padre Pio -

After Jesus Christ's ascension to heaven, Mary longed continually with burning desire to be reunited with Him. To be without her divine Son was a very harsh exile. Those years of separation from Him were for her a most slow and painful martyrdom of love that consumed her slowly.

Archbishop Fulton Sheen

We can't be perfect all the time!

"The good sometimes do wrong. Let us face it. And when they do wrong it is not the same as the evil who do wrong. Evil is an exception in the life of the good; it cuts across the long road of their life as a tangent. But with the evil, good is an exception. A master pianist may hit a wrong note, but everyone still knows him to be a good pianist. A beginner may hit a right note, but everyone knows that he is not a good player."

St. Faustina's diary http://www.marian.org/directory_flash.html -

I am reliving these moments with Our Lady. With great longing, I am waiting for the Lord's coming. Great are my desires. I desire that all humankind come to know the Lord. I would like to prepare all nations for the coming of the Word Incarnate. O Jesus, make the fount of Your mercy gush forth more abundantly, for humankind is seriously ill and thus has more need than ever of Your compassion. You are a bottomless sea of mercy for us sinners; and the greater the misery, the more right we have to Your mercy. You are a fount which makes all creatures happy by Your infinite mercy. (793)

O inexhaustible spring of Divine Mercy, pour yourself out upon us! Your Goodness knows no limits. Confirm, O Lord, the power of Your mercy over the abyss of my misery, for You have no limit to Your mercies. Wonderful and matchless is Your mercy, astonishing the human and angelic mind. (819)

MEDJUGORJE DAY BY DAY

These thoughts for a day are taken from a daily meditation book based on the Messages of Our Lady of Medjugorje by Father Richard J. Beyer, Ave Maria Press.

May 19 - PUT GOD FIRST IN YOUR FAMILIES

In December of 1991, the Blessed Mother spoke of love and the family:

Dear children, today in a special way I bring the infant Jesus to you, that he May bless you with peace and love. Dear children, do not forget that this is a grace which many people do not understand or accept.

Therefore, all of you who have said that you are mine and seek my help, give your entire self. First, be an example in your own families and give them your love. Since you say that Christmas is a family feast, then, dear children, put God first in your families; then he can give you peace and protect you not only from war, but also from Satan's attacks during peacetime.

When God is with you, you have everything. But when you do not want him, you are miserable and lost, for you do not know whose side you are on. And so, dear children, decide for God and then you will have everything. (Monthly Message December 25, 1991).

In Matthew's gospel, Jesus also spoke of the family.

Specifically, of marital fidelity and oneness:

He answered, "Have you not read that the one who made them at the beginning `made them male and female,' and said, `For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh?' So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate" (Mt 19:4-6)

Reflection:

"Success in marriage," wrote B.R. Brickner, "is more than finding the right person: it is a matter of being the right person."

The sacrament of marriage received special treatment from the fathers of Vatican II; some of the thoughts expressed were quite beautiful, including the following:

Authentic married love is caught up into divine love, and is governed and enriched by Christ's redeeming love.

Such love, merging the human with the divine, leads the spouses to a free and mutual gift of themselves, a gift proving itself by gentle affection and by deed. Such love pervades the whole of their lives. Indeed, by its generous activity, it grows better and grows better and grows greater.

Sealed by mutual faithfulness and hallowed above all by Christ's sacrament, this love remains steadfastly true in body and in mind, in bright days or dark. (The Church Today, 48-49).

Application:

Today, pray especially for married couples and, if you are married, for your spouse. This evening, offer a prayer together for God's continued blessings on your family.

Medjugorje Day By Day May 18 - READ SACRED SCRIPTURES

"The faith of the Church is this: That one and identical is the Word of God and the Son of Mary Who suffered on the Cross, Who is present in the Eucharist, and Who rules in Heaven" (Pope Pius XII).

Mother Teresa

If we worry too much about ourselves, we won't have time for others.

Meditations by Padre Pio -

Mary's holy soul, like a dove set free, left her saintly body and flew to the bosom of her Beloved.

Archbishop Fulton Sheen

The magnetic pull of good!

"The psychological effect is entirely different when those who truly love God do wrong. The difference between them and others is like to that between a waif who steals and a devoted son who steals. The first does not feel the rupture of a relationship; the second does. The latter has hurt one whom he really loves.

Furthermore, the waif does not feel the urge to restore the broken buds of love, but the ordinary good boy does. There is a mysterious magnet operating in the case of the good. As the steel filings fly to the attraction of the magnet, leaving the dirt behind, so the good are pulled back again to God, but only after having shaken the dust of evil from their lives."

St. Faustina's diary http://www.marian.org/directory_flash.html -

In that same moment, the soul drowns entirely in Him and experiences a happiness as great as that of the chosen ones in heaven. Although the chosen ones in heaven see God face to face and are completely and absolutely happy, still their knowledge of God is not the same.

God has given me to understand this. This deeper knowledge begins here on earth, depending on the grace [given], but to a great extent it also depends on our faithfulness to that grace.

However, the soul receiving this unprecedented grace of union with God cannot say that it sees God face to face, because even here there is a very thin veil of faith, but so very thin that the soul can say that it sees God and talks with Him. It is "divinized." God allows the soul to know how much He loves it, and the soul sees that better and holier souls than itself have not received this grace.

Therefore, it is filled with holy amazement, which maintains it in deep humility, and it steeps itself in its own nothingness and holy astonishment; and the more it humbles itself, the more closely God unites himself with it and descends to it.

The soul, at this moment is, as it were, hidden; its senses are inactive; in one moment, it knows God and drowns in Him. It knows the whole depth of the Unfathomable One, and the deeper this knowledge, the more ardently the soul desires Him. (771)

MEDJUGORJE DAY BY DAY

These thoughts for a day are taken from a daily meditation book based on the Messages of Our Lady of Medjugorje by Father Richard J. Beyer, Ave Maria Press.

May 18 - READ SACRED SCRIPTURES

Today the Blessed Mother urges that we read the Bible:

Dear children, on this great day which you have given me, I wish to bless all of you and say: these days that I am with you are days of grace.

I want to teach you and help you walk in the way of holiness. There are many people who do not want to understand my messages nor to seriously accept what I am saying. Therefore I call you to witness to my presence here through your lives---through your day-to-day living.

If you pray, God will help you discern the true reason for my coming. And so, little children, pray and read the sacred scriptures so that through the graces that have accompanied my coming, you can discern the messages in sacred scripture for you.

St. Paul also emphasizes the importance and power of scripture:

For I am not ashamed of the gospel; it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who has faith, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. In it the righteousness of God is revealed. (Rom 1:16-17).

Reflection:

Mark Twain once wrote that, "Most people are bothered by those passages in scripture which they cannot understand; but as for me, I always noticed that the passages in scripture which they cannot understand; but as for me, I always noticed that the passages in scripture which trouble me most are those that I do understand."

The scriptures are indeed challenging, being much more than poetry and parables; they provide a whole new way of living based on our redemption through Jesus Christ. That is why the Blessed Mother urges us to read the Bible daily, for it reveals her Son to us in greater and greater depth. Thus St. Jerome could say:

"To be ignorant of the scriptures is not to know Christ." And since he is the way, the truth, and the life, it is essential that we know him intimately.

Application:

Today, take several minutes to reflect on the Parable of the Sower as found in Luke 8:4-15.

OUR LADY OF LOURDES GROTTO (BEHIND HOSPITAL) PANA, IL
MESSAGE FROM HEAVEN
SHARON FITZPATRICK - LOCUTIONIST
SUNDAY, MAY 17, 2009

MY SWEET PRECIOUS LITTLE CHILDREN,

THIS IS THE DAY OF THE LORD, THANK YOU FOR KEEPING IT HOLY.

I AM GRATEFUL THAT YOU COME TO THIS PLACE, THIS PLACE OF GRACE TO PRAY WITH THIS MOTHER, THE MOTHER OF GOD.

THE WORLD IS FULL OF NON BELIEVERS. MANY ARE AMONGST THOSE IN THE HOLY CHURCH. NO LONGER IS THERE FEAR IN OFFENDING GOD, BUT AN ARROGANT MAN HAS PLACED THEMSELVES ABOVE HIM, AND CAUSED DISGRACE AND SCANDAL WITH THEIR ACTIONS AND WORDS. BUT I TELL YOU THAT THE ARROGANT AND THE PROUD SHALL FIND THEMSELVES ENGAGED WITH THE ALMIGHTY GOD WHO CAN NEITHER DECEIVE, NOR BE DECEIVED.

THOSE FOOLISH MEN WHO GO AGAINST ALL THAT IS HOLY SHALL FIND THAT THEY ARE AMONGST THOSE WHO SHALL KNOW THE WRATH OF GOD AND UNDERSTAND HOW AND WHY IT HAPPENED. BE GRATEFUL CHILDREN WHO REJOICE IN THE LORD AND WHO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE TRUTH.

THE TRUTH IS UNDER GREVIOUS ATTACK AND THOSE WHO ARE WEAK ACCEPT DECEPTION. THOSE WHO KNOW THE TRUTH AND LIVE THE TRUTH CANNOT BE DECEIVED, NOR CAN THEY ACCEPT THE FOOLISHNESS OF THOSE WHO ARE PUFFED UP WITH PRIDE. THE LIES SHALL BE MADE KNOWN, YOU HAVE ONLY TO PRAY AND TRUST.

TRUST MY CHILDREN, MY LITTLE CHILDREN, IN MY IMMACULATE HEART. IS IT NOT YOUR REFUGE. I TAKE YOU ALL INTO THIS HEART AND WITH TRUE LOVE I HELP YOU IN ALL SITUATIONS. SO REST NOW MY LOVES IN MY HEART. ACCEPT THE PEACE OF JESUS AND TRUST, TRUST, TRUST.

WITH A GRATEFUL HEART I EMBRACE EACH OF YOU. I IMPLORE MY BELOVED PRIEST - SON TO GIVE TO YOU THE BLESSING OF CHRIST.

RECEIVE ALL MY LOVES IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER, THE SON, AND THE HOLY SPIRIT, AND THEN PRAISE AND THANK GOD NOW AND FOREVER.

Medjugorje Day By Day May 17 - MATERIALISM IS LEADING YOU INTO SLAV ERY

"Never forget Jesus, this divine Model. Try to see a certain lovable majesty in his Presence [in the Holy Eucharist]. Try to hear a certain pleasant authority in His manner of speaking . . . . Imagine His extremely composed and sweet expression with which He drew the crowds, making them leave cities and castles, leading them to the mountains, to the forests, and to the solitude of the deserted beaches of the sea. Imagine the crowds totally forgetting food, drink, and their domestic duties in order to follow Him" (St. Padre Pio).

Mother Teresa

I ask you one thing: do not tire of giving, but do not give your leftovers. Give until it hurts, until you feel the pain.

Meditations by Padre Pio -
Father, today is the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows: say something to me. Answer: Our Lady of Sorrows loves us. She gave birth to us in suffering and love. May you never forget Our Lady of Sorrows and May her suffering be engraved in your heart: May she inflame your heart with love for herself and her son.

Archbishop Fulton Sheen

Enough with the psychobabble, there is only on prescription for happiness and it is in taking up our own cross and following Jesus

"The hour has come for educators, sociologists and citizens to reverse their steps, to see that if the self is to be really happy, it must be disciplined, pruned, denied and negated by itself. No better law for inner peace has ever been given than that of the Divine Savior: 'If any one will come after Me, let him take up his cross daily and follow Me' (Luke 9: 23)."

St. Faustina's diary http://www.marian.org/directory_flash.html -
There were two occasions when my soul was plunged into despair, once for half an hour, and the second time for three quarters of an hour. Just as I cannot describe the greatness of the graces, so too with these ordeals sent by the Lord; whatever words I might use, they are only a pale shadow [of the reality].

However, just as the Lord plunged me into these torments, so too He brought me out of them. Only this lasted for a few years, after which I again received this extraordinary grace of union which has continued to this day. Still, during this second period of union, there also have been short interruptions.

But for some time now, I have not experienced any interruption at all; on the contrary, I am more and more deeply steeped in God. The great light which illumines the mind gives me a knowledge of the greatness of God; but it is not as if I were getting to know the individual attributes, as before-no, it is different now: In one moment, I come to know the entire essence of God. MEDJUGORJE DAY BY DAY

These thoughts for a day are taken from a daily meditation book based on the Messages of Our Lady of Medjugorje by Father Richard J. Beyer, Ave Maria Press.

May 17 - MATERIALISM IS LEADING YOU INTO SLAVERY

During Ivanka's apparition on her birthday in 1989, the Blessed Mother said:

Pray, for you are in great danger and temptation; the world and materialism are leading you into slavery. Satan is in the midst of his. I so want to help each of you in prayer. And I am interceding with my Son for you. (Special Message June 25,1989).

In Luke's gospel, Christ also warns us of materialism and possessiveness:

And he said to them, "Take care! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; for one's life does not consist in the abundance of possessions." The he told them a parable: "The land of a rich man produced abundantly. And he thought to himself, `What should I do, for I have no place to store my crops? Then he said, ` I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build larger ones. And there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say. You have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.'

"But God said to him, `You fool! This very night your life is being demanded of you. And the things you have prepared, whose will they be? ` So it is with those who store up treasures for themselves but are not rich toward God" (Lk 12:15-21).

Reflection:

On the triple doorway of the cathedral of Milan, there are three inscriptions spanning the towering arches. Over one is carved a beautiful wreath of roses, and underneath is the inscription, "All that pleases is but for a moment." Over the other is sculptured a cross, and these are the words beneath:

"All that troubles is but for a moment." But underneath the great central entrance in the main aisle is the legend, "That only is important which is eternal."

This is the heart of Our Lady's message today, She urges us to focus our lives on what is truly important, and not on the material, which passes away.

It is the gospel message reworded:

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will not be exhausted. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also (Lk 12:22, 33-34).

Application:

Today, think of your most precious possessions; how much of your time do they occupy? Do your priorities need rearranging?

SHARON FITZPATRICK - LOCUTIONIST

WEDNESDAY, MAY 13, 2009

MY DEAR DEAR PRECIOUS LITTLE CHILDREN,

THE STORMS COME UPON YOUR COMMUNITY, THE NATION, THE WORLD. EVERY DISASTER
IS REPORTED, YET MAN DOES NOT PRAY. BUT THESE ARE JUST THE BEGINNING. GOD
WILL BRING MANKIND TO HIM AND THOUGH THERE IS STUBBORNNESS, THERE WILL COME
THAT MOMENT WHEN ALL SHALL FALL TO THEIR KNEES, BEGGING GOD'S MERCY.

DO NOT
BE AFRAID NOR SHOULD YOU TAKE ON FEAR. YOU HAVE ALREADY ASKED FORGIVENESS
NOT ONLY FOR YOURSELVES, BUT FOR ALL OF MANKIND. YOU ARE FEW, BUT THE FEW
HAVE COME INTO UNITY AND WITHIN THIS UNITY IS A POWER, THE POWER OF SINCERE
PRAYER. DESPITE THE CONDITION OF THE WORLD,

THERE IS HOPE AND THIS LITTLE
TRICKLE OF HOPE SHALL FLOW STEADY AND STRONG AND PERHAPS THERE WILL BE AN
AWAKENING IN THE HEARTS OF MAN THAT SHALL STOP THE OUTPOURING OF GOD'S WRATH
AND CAUSE THE OUTPOURING OF GOD'S MERCY. CONTINUE MY LOVES AND THOUGH YOU
ARE WEARY BE STRONG AGAINST EVIL. BE WITNESS TO THE TRUTH AND PROTECT IT
ALWAYS.

LITTLE CHILDREN, THIS IS A PLACE OF GRACE. MY HEART YOUR REFUGE -
UNDERSTAND THAT THOUGH YOU ARE LITTLE AND SEEM OF LITTLE VALUE TO THE WORLD,
YOU ARE A TREASURE OF HEAVEN AND NO MAN CAN SLIGHT YOU THERE. DO NOT BE
ANGRY WITH THOSE FILLED WITH PRIDE, ESPECIALLY THE PRIESTS. THEIR PRIDE
SHALL CAUSE THEM MUCH GRIEF AND THEY SHALL BE IN GREAT SORROW BECAUSE OF IT.

I GATHER YOU ALL TO ME. I HOLD YOU IN MY EMBRACE AS I BLESS YOU IN THE NAME
OF THE FATHER, THE SON, AND THE HOLY SPIRIT.

MY BELOVED PRIEST - SONS GIVE TO YOU THE BLESSING OF CHRIST. RECALL THAT I
TOLD YOU TO NEVER TAKE THIS BLESSING LIGHTLY. IT IS THE BLESSING OF CHRIST
AND IT IS GIVEN WITH LOVE. RECEIVE IT WITH AWE AND THEN PRAISE AND THANK
GOD FOREVER, FOREVER, FOREVER.

AMEN

SHORT POWERFUL PRAYER THROUGH ST. JOSEPH

"Glorious St. Joseph, tenderhearted father, faithful
guardian of Jesus, chaste spouse of the Mother of
God, I ask you to join me in praising God the Father
through His Divine Son who died on the cross and
rose again to give us sinners new life. Through the
Holy Name of Jesus, pray with me that we may obtain
from the eternal Father the favor we ask. (here
state your intention)."

Say this prayer for nine consecutive days.

Fear not! God is your shelter (the 23rd Psalm and the Lord’s Prayer. God never fails). Don’t fail him. Call on Jesus. Jesus on the mainline, tell him what you want!
