Prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary Protectress of Africa

Holy Mary, Mother of God, Protectress of Africa, you have given to the world the true Light, Jesus Christ. Through your obedience to the Father and the grace of the Holy Spirit, you have given us the source of our reconciliation and our justice, Jesus Christ, our peace and our joy.

Mother of Tenderness and Wisdom, show us Jesus, your Son and the Son of God. Guide our path of conversion, so that Jesus might shine his glory on us in every aspect of our personal, familial and social lives.

Mother, full of Mercy and Justice, through your docility to the Spirit, the Counselor, obtain for us the grace to be witnesses of the Risen Lord, so that we will increasingly become the salt of the earth and the light of the world.

Mother of Perpetual Help, we entrust to your maternal intercession the preparation and fruits of the Second Special Assembly for Africa. Queen of Peace, pray for us! Our Lady of Africa, pray for us!

Melania Divas, I am Spanish (Aka Melandia Divas). I am a widow at 22 years of age. But I moved to Alexandria, in Africa, spending most her time there ministering and gaining holiness. There, I sold my possessions, moved to the Nitria mountain area.

A court official tried to extort from Melania, but he soon found out I was well-connected lady by birth and by association. He apologized to Melania. I also established a monastery in Palestine.

I became connected with the African holy persons and saints:

Pambo

Arsisius,

Sarapion

Pahnutius of Scete,

Isidore the Confessor, bishop of Hermopolis,

Dioscorus.

From my own resources and funds, Melania ministered to them all. I dressed often in slave’s clothing, helping the following holy bishops and priests, banished by the prefects of Alexandria:

Isidore

Pisimius

Adelphius

Paphoutius

Pambo

Ammonius Paroles,

Menas, Hermogenes, & Eugraphos, Martyrs in Alexandria, Menas Kallikelados (which means eloquent), proved a persuasive man. While born in Athens (and therefore not black) He worked in Africa. A Christian and educated officer in the army of Rome, he went about the empire doing problem solving jobs for the Emperor. Eugraphus worked as secretary (scribe) to Menas.

Following Roman Emperor Alexander Severus, Emperor Maximinus (from 235 A.D. until 238 A.D.) stationed Menas in Alexandria. He was to alleviate difficulties with the townsfolk. Additionally, Menas exhorted Christians to remain strong as part of his duties.

Maximinus was not pleased. Nor was Hermogenes, an eparch born to non-Christians and another court official. The Emperor sent Hermogenes to dissuade Menas from his Christian way. Seeing miracles done by Menas through the grace of God, Hermogenes converted to Yeshua, Jesus the Christ. Authorities of Emperor Maximinus, martyred Menas, Eugraphus, and Hermogenes, 235 A.D. Dec. 10th, 17 Feb. (Latin Rite). (Same as

Mennas of Alexandria, Dec. 10, martyr, some say the date was 313 A.D.).

Menas the Kemetian, Holy martyr in Phrygia, 296 A.D

Medjugorje Day By Day May 16 - YOUR FIRST PRIORITY

"The Eucharist is the secret of my day. It gives strength and meaning to all my activities of service to the Church and to the whole world" (Pope John Paul II).

I spoke also with the Holy Father. I talked to him about the community and the vocations connected with the experience of Medjugorje. The Holy Father listened to me, drew close to me and right in my ear said to me, reminding me not to forget: "Don't you be concerned about Medjugorje, because I'm thinking about Medjugorje and I pray for it's success every day"

Mother Teresa
We, the unwilling, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have done so much, for so long, with so little, we are now qualified to do anything with nothing.

Meditations by Padre Pio -
What tongue could worthily describe Mary's triumphant entry into heaven? If the triumphs prepared hear below arouse admiration and great enthusiasm that they attract many people to contemplate them, what can be said of the triumphant prepared by God Himself for his mother?

Archbishop Fulton Sheen
Pride and conceit make us no better than Pontius Pilate

"Some seek professional advice regarding their confused mental state, and are told that they are suffering from an 'inferiority complex.' The truth of the matter is, nobody who is self-willed has an inferiority complex; he has a superiority complex. He is so full of conceit, pride and aggressive assertiveness that his hurt feelings may for the moment appear as inferiority. But he would not feel hurt if he did not have a diabolic pride, or superiority which would treat anyone who does not flatter him as Pontius Pilate treated Christ. Pilate washed his hands of Christ and had Him executed."

St. Faustina's diary http://www.marian.org/directory_flash.html
Inner torment for more than two hours. Agony.... Suddenly, God's presence pervades me and I feel as though I am coming under the power of the just God. His justice pervades me to the marrow; outwardly I lose strength and consciousness. With this, I come to know the great holiness of God and my own great misery. A great torment afflicts my soul; the soul perceives its deeds to be not without blemish.

Then the strength of trust is awakened in the soul, which longs for God with all its might. Yet it sees how miserable it is and what utter vanity everything that surrounds it. And face to face with such holiness, Oh, poor soul....(672)

Tonight God's presence is pervading me, and in an instant I come to know the great holiness of God. Oh, how the greatness of God overwhelms me! I then come to know the whole depth of my nothingness. This is a great torment, for this knowledge is followed by love.

The soul bounds forward vehemently toward God, and the two loves come face to face: the Creator and the creature; one little drop seeks to measure itself with the ocean. At first, the little drop wants to enclose the infinite ocean within itself; but at the same moment, it knows itself to be just one small drop, and thus it is vanquished, and it passes completely into God like a drop into the ocean. At first, this moment is a torment, but so sweet that, on experiencing it, the soul is happy. (702)

MEDJUGORJE DAY BY DAY
These thoughts for a day are taken from a daily meditation book based on the Messages of Our Lady of Medjugorje by Father Richard J. Beyer, Ave Maria Press.

May 16 - YOUR FIRST PRIORITY

The Blessed Mother reiterates here most important message:

Dear children, today I invite you to prayer. Without prayer, dear children, you will not be able to conceive of either God or myself, nor understand the graces which I am giving you. Therefore, I ask you to begin and end your day in prayer.

Dear children, I wish to lead you day after day toward prayer as much as possible but you will never grow if you do not want to. And so I exhort you, dear children, to make prayer your first priority (Weekly Message July 3, 1986.

In Mark's gospel, Christ also calls us to prayer:

Jesus answered them, "Have faith in God. Truly I tell you, if you say to this mountain, `Be taken up and thrown into the sea,' and if you do not doubt in your heart, but believe that what you say will come to pass, it will be done for you. So I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours (Mk 11:22-24).

Reflection:

The great mystic, Julian of Norwich, tells us that Christ showed himself to her in different ways. One was as an infant, born of the Blessed Virgin. Another was in his Passion, as he was dying on the cross. Another time, she saw him as if in a point, that is, his presence as Creator in everything, upholding it.

Once he showed himself as if on a pilgrimage, with himself in front leading all his people to heaven. At other times, he was pictured reigning as king. But the way he showed himself to her most often was as king reigning in the soul. "There he has fixed his resting place and his royal city: and out of this worshipful throne he shall never rise, nor forever more his dwelling place from there."

Sometimes we forget that the Lord is both within and without. Our prayer life can often be deepened with the realization that the divine presence abides in our very heart and soul. St. Teresa of Avila spoke of the spiritual journey as a journey inward to the deepest recesses of the soul, where God would be discovered in majesty. "Too few people," wrote Carl Jung, "have experienced the divine image as the innermost possession of their own souls. Christ only meets them from without, never from within, the soul."

Application:
You are a living tabernacle of the divine presence. Today, direct your prayers to the God within

Medjugorje Day by Day May 15 - GIVE THEM LIGHT

Saints are not people who plan and organize their particular style of life and perfection and follow it strictly on their own strength. Saints are people who love and trust God to the point that they let Him guide them and lead them where He wants.
Catholic Insight Magazine May 2004 page 21 (quote from Vatican website)
Become a saint by doing God's Will!

Mother Teresa
We shall never know all the good that a simple smile can do.

Meditations by Padre Pio -
May the Mother of Jesus, and our Mother, always smile on your spirit, obtaining for it, from her Most Holy Son, every heavenly blessing.

Archbishop Fulton Sheen
The clash of egos is always a losing proposition
"When a person builds his philosophy of life on the principle of self-will, he is in for a tremendous shock. It happens that most other people he meets in the world have exactly the same principle. The result is that one individual has self-will contradicted by another; the ego is negated by another ego; wishes are not fulfilled; whims are negated, crossed and rejected by other egos equally bent on self assertion."

St. Faustina's diary http://www.marian.org/directory_flash.html -
My Jesus, despite Your graces, I see and feel all my misery. I begin my day with battle and end it with battle. As soon as I conquer one obstacle, ten more appear to take its place.

But I am not worried, because I know that this is the time of struggle, not peace. When the burden of the battle becomes too much for me, I throw myself like a child into the arms of the heavenly Father and trust I will not perish. O my Jesus, how prone I am to evil, and this forces me to be constantly vigilant. But I do not lose heart. I trust God's grace, which abounds in the worst misery. (606)

MEDJUGORJE DAY BY DAY
These thoughts for a day are taken from a daily meditation book based on the Messages of Our Lady of Medjugorje by Father Richard J. Beyer, Ave Maria Press.

May 15 - GIVE THEM LIGHT

Today the Blessed Virgin calls us to light:
Dear children, you have all experienced light and darkness during your lives. God gives every person the power to recognize good and evil. I am calling you to light, which you must carry to all who are in darkness. From day to day, people who are in darkness come into your homes. You, dear children, must give them the light (Weekly Message March 14, 1985).

As we see in John's gospel, Jesus himself is the light

Jesus said to them, "The light is with you a little longer. Walk while you have the light, so that the darkness May not overtake you. If you walk in the darkness, you do not know where you are going. While you have the light, believe in the light, so that you May become children of light." (Jn 12:35-36).

Reflection:

There is a famous cave, some 60 miles from Auckland in New Zealand. It is known as the cave of the glowworms. You reach it in a boat which is pulled by a wire for silence. As you glide down the stream, you suddenly come across a soft light gleaming in the distance; then you enter a magic world. From the top of the cave, thousands of threads hang down from the glowing insects. So great is the light that it is possible to read a book there. But if there is a slightest noise, the bright light dies out, just as if a switch had been turned off.

The light to one committed Christian can illuminate not only his family, but also the parish and community in which he lives. Most of us have known someone like this; their kindness, unselfishness, and love have had special effect on our lives. If you multiply such an individual several million times, you have a power which can enlighten an entire world. This is the reason why Our Lady came to Medjugorje, and why we have been asked to live her messages.

Application:
Carry the light of faith and peace to all you meet today. May your example draw them closer to Christ.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 13, 2009

MY DEAR DEAR PRECIOUS LITTLE CHILDREN,

THE STORMS COME UPON YOUR COMMUNITY, THE NATION, THE WORLD. EVERY DISASTER
IS REPORTED, YET MAN DOES NOT PRAY. BUT THESE ARE JUST THE BEGINNING. GOD
WILL BRING MANKIND TO HIM AND THOUGH THERE IS STUBBORNNESS, THERE WILL COME
THAT MOMENT WHEN ALL SHALL FALL TO THEIR KNEES, BEGGING GOD'S MERCY. DO NOT
BE AFRAID NOR SHOULD YOU TAKE ON FEAR. YOU HAVE ALREADY ASKED FORGIVENESS
NOT ONLY FOR YOURSELVES, BUT FOR ALL OF MANKIND. YOU ARE FEW, BUT THE FEW
HAVE COME INTO UNITY AND WITHIN THIS UNITY IS A POWER, THE POWER OF SINCERE
PRAYER.

DESPITE THE CONDITION OF THE WORLD, THERE IS HOPE AND THIS LITTLE
TRICKLE OF HOPE SHALL FLOW STEADY AND STRONG AND PERHAPS THERE WILL BE AN
AWAKENING IN THE HEARTS OF MAN THAT SHALL STOP THE OUTPOURING OF GOD'S WRATH
AND CAUSE THE OUTPOURING OF GOD'S MERCY.

CONTINUE MY LOVES AND THOUGH YOU
ARE WEARY BE STRONG AGAINST EVIL. BE WITNESS TO THE TRUTH AND PROTECT IT
ALWAYS.

LITTLE CHILDREN, THIS IS A PLACE OF GRACE. MY HEART YOUR REFUGE -
UNDERSTAND THAT THOUGH YOU ARE LITTLE AND SEEM OF LITTLE VALUE TO THE WORLD,
YOU ARE A TREASURE OF HEAVEN AND NO MAN CAN SLIGHT YOU THERE. DO NOT BE
ANGRY WITH THOSE FILLED WITH PRIDE, ESPECIALLY THE PRIESTS. THEIR PRIDE
SHALL CAUSE THEM MUCH GRIEF AND THEY SHALL BE IN GREAT SORROW BECAUSE OF IT.

I GATHER YOU ALL TO ME. I HOLD YOU IN MY EMBRACE AS I BLESS YOU IN THE NAME
OF THE FATHER, THE SON, AND THE HOLY SPIRIT.

Global Prayer and Healing Mass Ministry of the Holy Spirit. Life of Jesus Organization

When at Mass, last Sunday, the homily spoke of being fruitful. That Jesus is the vine and His followers are the branches and God the Father is the vine pruner. It taught that if we love Jesus we will bear good fruit and that when the fruit is not good a plentiful crop God the Father prunes (cuts of the diseased, rotted or weak parts so that they don't drain the healthy part of the plant, therefore, strengthening the integrity of the entire body of the plant and hence producing the best possible fruit in the largest quantities possible).

Keep in mind this does not imply He discards the weak or imperfect person only the weakness or imperfection in the person. We grow strong by the temporarily painful pruning ifwe persevere in Christ Jesus and stay in the Word of God.

We were created to bring glory to God. Only when we do this are we fulfilling our purpose in creation. Our good fruit is a result of loving Jesus. It does not earnour love from Jesus. Jesus loved us when we were lost sinners without redemption. That is why He offered His own sweet virginal flesh on the tree. We can never merit, through our own deeds, salvation comes only through our Christ. Now, I'll try to explain the part that the Holy Spirit put upon my heart.

The Father rejoices in our prayers, reading His Word, studying the Holy Bible, following His commandments and participating in the sacraments. This is His light being shownin the world. This light, His people bring with them, dispels the darkness and chases away the destroyer.

It attracts the unbeliever because they want the peace they see in the person who follows Jesus Christ. They see through this portal (peace) a tiny glimpse of heaven and they want to know how to get what the believer has. However, His glory is realized by releasing His Word into the world for His Holy Word never returns void. It is His Holy Word spoken, out loud, into the world that brings true "fruit".

"Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ."Romans 10:17 The true fruit most sought by our loving Father in heaven is conversion of souls. This is done just as Jesus taught us by His earthly life. We use our gifts of outward light to attract the attention of the lost. They then draw instinctively toward that light and away from the darkness.

The darkness beckons them still! Only when His Word is released fearlessly into the atmosphere and penetrates their hardened hearts, opens their eyes and they see His unfathomable love will they proclaim Him their Savior, Lord and Master. This is when they can finally embrace their place as His beloved slaves, understand they will be bestowed the weapons to do battle with the adversary and walk in light.

The weapons of God's people are the sword-the Word of God, the breast plate-righteousness, the helmet-salvation, the shield-faith and their waist is girded with truth and their feet are shod with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. If these gifts (heavenly weapons) are not used to turn souls back to God then they will be taken away and your refusal, though your choice, is at the peril of your soul.
God bless you!

SHORT POWERFUL PRAYER THROUGH ST. JOSEPH

"Glorious St. Joseph, tenderhearted father, faithful
guardian of Jesus, chaste spouse of the Mother of
God, I ask you to join me in praising God the Father
through His Divine Son who died on the cross and
rose again to give us sinners new life. Through the
Holy Name of Jesus, pray with me that we may obtain
from the eternal Father the favor we ask. (here
state your intention)."

Say this prayer for nine consecutive days.

Fear not! God is your shelter (the 23rd Psalm and the Lord’s Prayer. God never fails). Don’t fail him. Call on Jesus. Jesus on the mainline, tell him what you want!
