Or, I was an ascetic monk in the Nitria Mountain, and especially St. Melania, visited me, as she did so many other monks and nuns in the desert, providing for my and their needs. God has graced me with a tradition that I never lied, swore, and did not in my lifetime abuse any person. I wished no one evil. And I said nothing, which had no effect. I did not speak without it being necessary to do so.

I was able through God’s grace to reclaim swamplands, so that the brothers might grow their own provisions.God graced me to administer the gathered monasteries containing a thousand brother monks and priests. The Almighty allowed me long life. At 90 years of age, my strength sill endured.

Herbs and roots, and sparse drinking water proved my sustenance. The psalms and prayers my real food for grace.

An angel once appeared to me to inform me of God’s plan, that through His work in me, 10,000 salvations of souls, people would gain faith. The angel told me I would not be lacking for anything, God would provide even up to death, as long as I called upon the Almighty.

At first, I could not really read. But God allowed me the grace to memorize the Scriptures, and then actually read them. The Good Lord graced me to expel evil spirits.

FATHER MELVIN DOUCETTE

"He loves you and calls you to Him"

Saturday, November 08, 2008

Dear Friends,

"While Jesus was still speaking to the crowds, his mother and his brothers appeared outside, wishing to speak with him. Someone told him, 'Your mother and your brothers are standing outside, asking to speak with you.' But he said in reply to the one who told him, 'Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?' And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said, 'Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my heavenly Father is my brother, and sister, and mother.'" Matthew 12:46-50

There will be no message until I return from Argentina. I will leave for Charlottetown airport in the morning and I will be back on November 22. Please pray for this trip that everything goes well.

Here is another message from Our Blessed Mother addressed to Joseph. She spoke to him in these words, "When My Son Jesus left home to begin His public life, I was left alone and I truly missed Him. He was the greatest joy of His Mother. People would report that He was teaching in Capernaum and in the surroundings. I would hear that He had gone to Jerusalem. I also would hear that there were a number of Jewish people who were against Him plotting to kill Him and this made Me very sad.

I knew that He was the Messiah, the Saviour of the world, and he would have much to suffer. Our relatives were afraid of what might happen and they persuaded Me to go with them to ask Him to come home. So, to satisfy them I went with them to speak to Him. It was a joy to meet Him again and I told Him about His relatives' concern. He had been given a mission by His Father and I knew that He had to carry this out.

My children, I am also concerned about each one of you. So many of you live only for the things of this world and forget about what is most important, namely, your spiritual life. What good is it if you gain the whole world and lose your soul? My Son Jesus is the one you need. Come open your heart to Him and accept Him with all your love. Be people of prayer who pray every day. Do not forget to pray your rosary every day and know that I am praying for you. Come to Me and I will bring you to My Son Jesus. He is your Redeemer who has all power to bring you with Him in heaven. He loves you and calls you to Him."

Medjugorje Day By Day Nov 08 - DO NOT JUDGE YOURSELVES

"This practice [of adoration of the Blessed Sacrament], repeatedly praised and recommended by the Magisterium, is supported by the example of many saints.
Particularly outstanding in this regard was Saint Alphonsus Liguori, who wrote: `Of all devotions, that of adoring Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is the greatest after the sacraments, the one dearest to God and the one most helpful to us'.

The Eucharist is a priceless treasure: by not only celebrating it but also by praying before it outside of Mass we are enabled to make contact with the very wellspring of grace. A Christian community desirous of contemplating the face of Christ . . . cannot fail also to develop this aspect of Eucharistic worship, which prolongs and increases the fruits of our communion in the body and blood of the Lord."

"Like the woman who anointed Jesus in Bethany, the Church has feared no `extravagance', devoting the best of her resources to expressing her wonder and adoration before the unsurpassable gift of the Eucharist" (Ecclesia de Eucharistia, Pope John Paul II, 25 and 48).

Mother Teresa -
I believe we must look for holiness, joy, and love in our own homes. We must make our home like a second "Nazareth" where Jesus can come and live with us.

Meditations by Padre Pio -
Be like little spiritual bees, bringing nothing into their hives but honey and wax. May your homes be full of sweetness, peace, agreement, humility and piety as regards conversation.

Archbishop Fulton Sheen -
We can't educate our kids soon enough!
"An educator was once asked by a mother of a child of five years of age, at what age she should begin educating her child. His answer was that `it is already five years too late.' This may be an exaggeration, but the best informed opinions are that the two ages which are most important in the education of the young are the ages between three and four for psychological development, and the beginning of the `teens' for ethical development."

St. Faustina's diary http://www.marian.org/directory_flash.html -

On the eve of the retreat, I started to pray that the Lord Jesus might give me just a little health so that I could take part in the retreat, because I was feeling so ill that I thought perhaps it might be my last. However, as soon as I had started praying I felt a strange dissatisfaction. I interrupted the prayer of supplication and began to thank the Lord for everything He sends me, submitting myself completely to His holy will. Then I felt profound peace of soul.

Faithful submission to the will of God, always and everywhere, in all events and circumstances of life, gives great glory to God. Such submission to the will of God carries more weight with Him than long fasts, mortifications and the most severe penances. Oh, how great is the reward for one act of loving submission to the will of God! As I write, my soul is enraptured at the thought of how much God loves it and of the peace that my soul already enjoys, here on earth. (724)

MEDJUGORJE DAY BY DAY
These thoughts for a day are taken from a daily meditation book based on the Messages of Our Lady of Medjugorje by Father Richard J. Beyer, Ave Maria Press.

Nov 8 - DO NOT JUDGE YOURSELVES

Speaking to the prayer group that Ivan and Marija had formed, the Virgin said:
You will be happy if you do not judge yourselves according to your faults, but understand that graces are offered to you even in your faults (Visionary Prayer Group May 12, 1986).

And of judging, Christ said in the gospel of Luke:

Do not judge, and you will not be judged; do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven (Lk 6:37).

Reflection:
Christ and Our Lady wish us to be truly free, but this is contingent upon our forgiveness of both ourselves and others, as our readings illustrate today.

This freedom means release from the prisons for our own minds and hearts the capacity to receive the gift of peace. But we cannot receive this grace while bitterness and resentment towards other tears at our souls, doing more damage than any past transgressor could.

And so the Blessed Mother calls us to release the bitter past, to let go of these old resentments, and to allow God to dispense justice in his own way and in his own time. She urges us to be cleansed and healed from the pain of the past so that it cannot poison the present and the future. She calls us to allow old injustices to be purged on the funeral pyre of Christ's redeeming love. This love is Christ's own presence, the gift of himself. It comes through surrender to the Lord of Peace who makes all things new.

Application:

In prayer today, surrender the pain of the past to Christ and Our Lady, asking that they heal the wounds of bitterness and hurt.

Medjugorje Day By Day Nov 07 - MAY TRUE PRAYER FILL YOUR HEARTS

"O My God, I ask of Thee this day a great favor: give me the Most Blessed
Virgin Adoratrix as my own Mother; let me share in her grace, in that state of
uninterrupted adoration in which she was during the whole time that she bore
Thee in her chaste womb, that paradise of virtue and of love" (St. Peter Julian
Eymard).
Bl. Elizabeth wrote, "When Our Lord was on earth, the Gospel says `a secret power went out from Him,' at His touch the sick recovered their health, the dead were restored to life. Well, He is still living! living in the tabernacle in His adorable Sacrament." "When you are close to the tabernacle in which love incarnate dwells, there is no distance."

Mother Teresa -
Happiness can't be found without prayer.

Meditations by Padre Pio - You too, doctors, you came to the world as I did with a mission to accomplish. Take note: I speak to you of duties when everyone talks of rights… You have the mission of curing the sick, but if you do not bring love to the bedside of the patient, I do not think the medicine will be of much use… Love cannot do without words. How can you express it if not with words that relieve the patient spiritually? Bring God to the patient. He will be worth more than any other cure.

Archbishop Fulton Sheen -
Only God can mold a Mountain out of our molehill of insignificance
"In the face of Divine Wisdom, all that we have, or do, or know, is a gift of God, and is only an insignificant molehill compared to His Mountain of Knowledge. Well indeed then may those who enjoy any relative superiority ask with Paul: `What do you have that you haven't received? And if you've received it, why do you boast as if it were yours alone?' (1 Corinthians 4: 7)."

St. Faustina's diary http://www.marian.org/directory_flash.html -
Advice of the Rev. Dr. Sopocko.
Without humility, we cannot be pleasing to God. Practice the third degree of humility; that is, not only must one refrain from explaining and defending oneself when reproached with something, but one should rejoice at the humiliation.

If the things you are telling me really come from God, prepare your soul for great suffering. You will encounter disapproval and persecution. They will look upon you as a hysteric and an eccentric, but the Lord will lavish His graces upon you. True works of God always meet opposition and are marked by suffering. If God wants to accomplish something, sooner or later He will do so in spite of the difficulties. Your part, in the meantime, is to arm yourself with great patience. (270)

Once the Lord said to me, My Heart was moved by great mercy towards you, My dearest child, when I saw you torn to shreds because of the great pain you suffered in repenting for your sins. I see your love, so pure and true that I give you first place among the virgins. You are the honor and glory of My Passion. I see every abasement of your soul, and nothing escapes my attention. I lift up the humble even to my very throne, because I want it so. (282

Dailys - http://www.catholic-forum.com/e-pistle.html -
Quote of the Day Those who perish, perish by their own negligence. -St. Ambrose
Today's Tidbit The third Council of Constantinople was held between November 7, 680 and September 6, 681 and was attended by almost 170 bishops. The sixteen sessions of this council condemned Monothelitism, and censured Pope Honorius I for issuing an ambiguous statement that seemed to support this heresy.

MEDJUGORJE DAY BY DAY

These thoughts for a day are taken from a daily meditation book based on the Messages of Our Lady of Medjugorje by Father Richard J. Beyer, Ave Maria Press.
Nov 7 - MAY TRUE PRAYER FILL YOUR HEARTS

The Blessed Mother speaks of prayer in the following message:
Dear children, today I call you to prayer with the heart, and not just through habit. Some come here but do not want to make progress in prayer. Therefore, as your Mother, I want to warn you: pray that true prayer may fill your hearts at every moment (Weekly Message May 2, 1985).

And from Psalm 141:

I call upon you, O Lord; come quickly to me; give ear to my voice when I call to you. Let my prayer be as incense before you, and the lifting up of my hands as an evening sacrifice. ---Psalm 141:1-2

Reflection:

Again Our Lady speaks of prayer with the heart and the tremendous grace it gives. Perhaps the highest form of this prayer is the "prayer of quiet" or "centering prayer," in which we experience God in the very depths of our being.

To experience this prayer, the following guidelines will be helpful:

A. Choose a place where you can be alone without distraction. Take a comfortable bodily position, close your eyes, and put everything out of your mind.

B. Physically relax and let all tensions leave you. Deep, deliberate breathing will aid this process. Let your total being, mind and body, arrive at a gentle silence.

C. Center all your attention on God and let a word or phrase form in your consciousness. You can use "Jesus," or "Jesus, have mercy," or "Come Holy Spirit," or whatever else will relate you to the Lord.

D. The word of phrase may be repeated often or interspersed with periods of complete silence. This is your way of reaching out for and receiving the Lord.

E. Your prayer should end slowly and quietly. You may wish to recite an Our Father or Hail Mary meditatively. On occasion the Lord may invite you to a deeper silence or listening and you will come to know the joy of his Spirit in fullest measure, even in ecstasy.

Application:
Practice the prayer of quiet within the next several days. For a fuller explanation, consult the books by Fr. Basil Pennington on centering prayer.

SHORT POWERFUL PRAYER THROUGH ST. JOSEPH

"Glorious St. Joseph, tenderhearted father, faithful
guardian of Jesus, chaste spouse of the Mother of
God, I ask you to join me in praising God the Father
through His Divine Son who died on the cross and
rose again to give us sinners new life. Through the
Holy Name of Jesus, pray with me that we may obtain
from the eternal Father the favor we ask. (here
state your intention)."

Say this prayer for nine consecutive days.

Fear not! God is your shelter (the 23rd Psalm and the Lord’s Prayer. God never fails. Don’t fail him. Call on Jesus. Jesus on the mainline, tell him what you want!
