"Be humble"
Tuesday, September 16, 2008
Dear Friends,
“An argument arose among the disciples about which of them was the greatest. Jesus realized the intention of their hearts and took a child and placed it by his side and said to them, ‘Whoever receives this child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me. For the one who is least among all of you is the one who is the greatest.’” Luke 9: 46 – 48
I will now quote from the message the Lord gave to Joseph. Jesus spoke to him these words, “You are always confronted with pride. You wish to know who is the greatest among you. This was the same problem the disciples had one day.
They were arguing as to whom came first among them and of course each one wanted to be first. I gave them a teaching to show that the least among them is the greatest. It is the one who is humble and aware of his sins who is the greatest in God’s eyes.
Pride is the greatest of all sins and it always goes first before a fall. Because of your pride you think that you can do it alone and, unfortunately, when you are in that state of mind, you are the weakest.
It is the humble person who is the strongest because he relies on the power of My grace. Grace is necessary to avoid evil and to reject the temptations of the evil one. You need My help if you wish to follow the path I traced out for you.
I placed a little child before the disciples to show them how humble a child is. The child is always ready to follow his parents and to believe what they tell him. You, too, have to become like a little child for such are the ones who inherit the Kingdom of God. Get rid of all your pride by accepting any humiliation that comes your way. Remember I was humiliated and cursed many times when I was on earth.
I did not get angry with them in return but as you know I forgave them all from the cross before I died. Be humble and you will be a person after My own heart. I love all those who are humble and ready to follow Me with great reverence and love.”

"I bless you all"
Monday, September 15, 2008
Dear Friends,
"As they continued their journey Jesus entered a village where a woman whose name was Martha welcomed him. She had a sister named Mary who sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speak.
Martha, burdened with much serving, came to him and said, 'Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me by myself to do the serving? Tell her to help me.' The Lord said to her in reply, 'Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part and it will not be taken from her.' Luke 10: 38 - 42
Here is a message received from the Lord by Joseph. Jesus spoke to him these words, "During My public life on earth, I traveled to many towns and villages of Israel. One village I loved to visit was Bethany where Lazarus, Martha and Mary lived. I was always invited to their home together with all the Apostles. I enjoyed a day of rest with them for they were holy people and they accepted Me as the Messiah.
Martha was always the busy one working all the time. Mary, on the other hand, loved to be close to Me to listen to all I said. She treasured all My words. One day Martha felt frustrated that her sister, Mary, did not come to help her and approached Me with her complaint. I told her that Mary had chosen the better part and it would not be taken away from her. I invited her to join Mary and take a rest. Of course she saw all the work that she had to do to prepare the meal for so many and left us, to finish the work.
You need to be at times Mary and at other times Martha. You should take time to sit and pray every day and you need to work for a living. There should be a balance so that the spiritual life is not neglected. Today many are too much like Martha and not enough like Mary.
What good is it to work all the time to make money and be without peace or joy. This is what happens to those who are far from Me. Yes, you need to work but do not forget that the spiritual life is important too. You need to listen to Me like Mary by reading the Bible, contemplating, praying and going to church. I bless you all."

Our Lady of Sorrows—Sept. 15: "Behold your Mother!" (Jn 19:27).
"In the Eucharist the Church is as it were at the foot of the cross with Mary, united with the offering and intercession of Christ"
Catechism of the Catholic Church, #1370
"The matter is very clear: the Lord is present in the tabernacle in his
divinity and in his humanity. He is not present for his own sake but for
ours: it is his delight to be with the 'children of men.' He knows, too,
that, being what we are, we need his personal nearness.
In consequence,
every thoughtful and sensitive person will feel attracted and will be there
as often and as long as possible. And the practice of the Church, which has instituted perpetual adoration, is just as clear," St. Teresa Benedicta
(Edith Stein).
Mother Teresa -
Trust in the good God who loves us, who cares for us, who sees all, knows all, can do all things for my good and the good of souls. One thing Jesus asks of me: that I lean upon Him; that in Him alone I put complete trust; that I surrender myself to Him unreservedly.
Meditations by Padre Pio -
We must not stop doing good even if it scandalizes the Pharisees.
Archbishop Fulton Sheen -
How Hospitality has become Inhospitable
"Hospitality has not passed out of the world today, but to a large extent it has become corporate or organized. Institutions are set up to care for the traveler or the needy, as the care becomes less personal and the responsibility less individual. A few decades ago no one in a horse and buggy along a country road would refuse to stop and pick up someone walking.
Today few automobiles stop to give lifts to those on the highway, mostly because too many hitchhikers have made hospitality impossible by their in hospital conduct. Despite this, it is wrong to think the world is not fit to be trusted and that everyone is a rogue until he proves himself to be otherwise."
St. Faustina's diary http://www.marian.org/directory_flash.html -
The Lord Jesus gave me to know how very pleasing to Him is a soul who lives in accordance with the will of God. It thereby gives very great glory to God... (821)
O Light Eternal, who come to this earth, enlighten my mind and strengthen my will that I may not give up in times of great affliction.
May Your light dissipate all the shadows of doubt. May Your omnipotence act through me. I trust in You, O uncreated Light! You, O Infant Jesus, are a model for me in accomplishing Your Father's will, You, who said, "Behold, I come to do Your will." Grant that I also may do God's will faithfully in all things. O Divine Infant, grant me this grace! (830)

Quote of the Day - What prayer could be more true before God the Father than that which the Son, who is the Truth, uttered with his own lips. -St. John Chrysostom
Today's Tidbit - The Novatian heresy, which these two martyrs fought against, was started by Novatian who was the first anti-pope and denied the power of the Church to absolve the sin of those who lapsed into certain serious sins.
MEDJUGORJE DAY BY DAY
SEPT 16 - SATAN PLANS TO WORK EVEN MORE
From a message on Satan in 1985:
Dear children, during these days you have savored the sweetness of God through the renewal in your parish. But Satan plans to work even more fiercely to take away your joy. Through prayer, however, you can completely disarm him and ensure your happiness (Weekly Message January 24, 1985).
Paul tells the Thessalonians that the Lord will protect them form the Evil One:
Finally, brothers and sisters, pray for us, so that the word of the Lord may spread rapidly and be glorified everywhere, just as it is among you, and that we may be rescued from wicked and evil people; for not all have faith. But the Lord is faithful; he will strengthen you and guard you from the Evil One (2 Thes 3:1-3).
Reflection:
Both St. Paul and Our Lady speak of the reality of Satan. Beneath the surface of the routine of daily life, a fierce struggle among spiritual powers is being waged. The Virgin has said the stakes are high; human souls. Like wildfire, the power of evil forces can be devastating, often because it is disguised and its slow rot is not dramatic.
Our main defense, the Madonna says today, is prayer with the heart, and an awareness that the Evil One really does exist for to be forewarned is to be forearmed. In another message, she recommended that we wear a blessed object. "Let the rosary in your hand be a sign to Satan that you belong to me."
Application:
Today, pray for the gift of discernment, that you can recognize the presence of the Evil One when he is near. Remember that he takes flight at the first word of prayer.

The waters have risen and severe storms are upon us, but we do not fear
drowning, for we stand firmly upon a rock. Let the sea rage, it cannot break the
rock. Let the waves rise, they cannot sink the boat of Jesus. What are we to
fear? Death? Life to me means Christ, and death is gain. Exile The earth and
its fullness belong to the Lord.
The confiscation of our goods? We brought
nothing into this world, and we shall surely take nothing from it? I concentrate
therefore on the present situation, and I urge you, my friends, to have
confidence. St. John Chrysostom, Liturgy of the Hours, Vol IV, p. 1377
God bless you, one and all.
