Prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary Protectress of Africa

Holy Mary, Mother of God, Protectress of Africa, you have given to the world the true Light, Jesus Christ. Through your obedience to the Father and the grace of the Holy Spirit, you have given us the source of our reconciliation and our justice, Jesus Christ, our peace and our joy.

Mother of Tenderness and Wisdom, show us Jesus, your Son and the Son of God. Guide our path of conversion, so that Jesus might shine his glory on us in every aspect of our personal, familial and social lives.

Mother, full of Mercy and Justice, through your docility to the Spirit, the Counselor, obtain for us the grace to be witnesses of the Risen Lord, so that we will increasingly become the salt of the earth and the light of the world.

Mother of Perpetual Help, we entrust to your maternal intercession the preparation and fruits of the Second Special Assembly for Africa. Queen of Peace, pray for us! Our Lady of Africa, pray for us!

Verena, Virgin. Tradition says I was from Thebes, Kemet. I journeyed to where the Theban legionnaires died as a martyr, Agaunum, now Switzerland, Maurice, and En Valais, visiting the tombs in pilgrimage. I traveled to Solothurn where I lived as a hermitess in a grotto, performing corporal works of mercy, piety, charity, teaching through deed, and word. 1 Sept.

Verulus, Secundinus, Siricius, Felix, Servulus, Saturninus, Fortunatus with 16 companions. Martyred at Adrumentum, in the Western and North part of Africa. Traditions say Arian Vandals, most probably killed us as Catholics around 430 A.D. or 534 A.D. 21 Feb.

Victor, Cratusian, and Companion, Martyrs

Victor Maurus (aka Victor the Moor)…I am a soldier, and I served in the Army of Caesar when Maximianus was Emperor, albeit my grey hairs bespoke my age.

I was born in Mauretania. I soldiered under Maximian at Milan. About, 303 A.D. an inquiry tried me for my Christian faith. I was tortured, suffered, and finally beheaded

He initiated a Christian persecution in what is now Milan, Italy. I was a Christian from a young age, but the Emperor, who knew me, did not know it. But spies informed him I was badmouthing Roman gods.
When Maximianus questioned me, and did not like my answers, he imprisoned me near the Circus, by the Way of the Ticinese Gate. I nevertheless professed faith in Christ Jesus, and His Blessed Mother Maryam.

The Emperor gave me six days to consider making sacrifice to the Roman gods, under threat of inhumane tortures. I starved during that time. No bread and water was allowed.

Maximianus ordered a platform built at the Circus’ Hippodrome. I was brought out. The Emperor questioned me. I told him that Christ was my salvation and strength, and the Spirit was my nourishment.
I was stretched beyond the third mark on the rack, and beaten.

Maximianus then attempted to bribe me, promoted me to the magister militum rank. He offered gold silver, retinues, and property. All I had to do was sacrifice to the Roman gods. I refused, calling the gods demons.

I told the Emperor my very self was a sacrifice in praise to Almighty God.

For three days by the Roman gate, I was imprisoned again. Refusing, to do as the torturers demanded, the clubs and beatings began anew. I was stretched to the 5th mark on the rack. I again refused under this torture. Maximianus again tossed me into prison, ordering my legs to be stretched apart on a slab.

I was shortly released. But the emperor’s Consiliarius, Anolinus warned me of my life. He was trying to force me to sacrifice.

Maximianus then had melted lead poured over me.

I prayed to Yeshua to release me, and an angel appeared. The lead was as cold water. It did not burn me. I thanked Father God and Jesus for this salvation. Christ, you who cooled the lead and enabled me to overcome the terrible tortures; do not allow me, I beg you, to be overcome by those men."

Maximianus had me taken to the Vercelline Gate. I was able to escape as the guards fell asleep. I hid in a horse stable, but was found, and beaten by the soldiers. I was transported to a Wood called The Elms.

I prayed, “I thank you, Lord Jesus Christ, that you have not separated me from your saints, my fellow citizens, Nabor and Felix. I bless and thank you forever. Amen.” I was then beheaded.

The Emperor ordered no grave be marked. He did not allow me to be buried, so that wild animals could feast. But two animals guarded my body, one my head, and the other at my feet.

Maximianus ordered my body buried. Bishop Maternus did so, after the animals allowed the Presbyter (Elder), to do so. I was martyred, 8 May, buried by Saint Maternus, bishop, 14 May.

Medjugorje Day By Day Mar 31 - Open your hearts to the Holy Spirit

"Whenever we are shaken by the sight of evil spreading in the universe . . .
we should not forget that such unleashing of the forces of sin is overcome by the saving power of Christ.

Whenever the words of consecration are uttered in the Mass and the Body and Blood of Christ become present in the act of the sacrifice, the triumph of love over hatred, of holiness over sin, is also present. Every Eucharistic Celebration is stronger than all the evil in the universe; it means real, concrete accomplishment of the redemption" (Pope John Paul II).

Bl. Elizabeth of the Trinity, Carmelite Nun (1880-1906) France:
Bl. Elizabeth wrote, "When Our Lord was on earth, the Gospel says `a secret power went out from Him,' at His touch the sick recovered their health, the dead were restored to life. Well, He is still living! living in the tabernacle in His adorable Sacrament." "When you are close to the tabernacle in which love incarnate dwells, there is no distance."

Mother Teresa -
We must say, " I belong to you. You can do whatever you like. "
And this is our strength and this is the joy of the Lord.

Meditations by Padre Pio -
Accept all the suffering and incomprehension that comes from Above. In this way you will perfect and sanctity yourself (FSP, 119).

Archbishop Fulton Sheen
Passion is not unconscious!
"The eye has a reflex action when someone is about to thrust his finger into it, but passion is a conscious affair; it is something that happens to a creature endowed with reason and free will."

St. Faustina's diary http://www.marian.org/directory_flash.html -

After I had gone into the refectory, during the reading, my whole being found itself plunged in God. Interiorly, I saw God looking at us with great pleasure. I remained alone with the Heavenly Father.

At that moment, I had a deeper knowledge of the Three Divine Persons, whom we shall contemplate for all eternity and, after millions of years, shall discover that we have just barely begun our contemplation. Oh, how great is the mercy of God, who allows man to participate in such a high degree in His divine happiness! At the same time, what great pain pierces my heart [at the thought] that so many souls have spurned this happiness. (1439)

Write, speak of My mercy. Tell souls where they are to look for solace; that is, in the Tribunal of Mercy [the Sacrament of Reconciliation] There the greatest miracles take place [and] are incessantly repeated. To avail oneself of this miracle, it is not necessary to go on a great pilgrimage or to carry out some external ceremony; it suffices to come with faith to the feet of My representative and to reveal to him one's misery, and the miracle of Divine Mercy will be fully demonstrated.

Were a soul like a decaying corpse so that from a human standpoint, there would be no [hope of] restoration and everything would already be lost, it is not so with God. The miracle of Divine Mercy restores that soul in full. Oh, how miserable are those who do not take advantage of the miracle of God's mercy!... (1448)

MEDJUGORJE DAY BY DAY
These thoughts for a day are taken from a daily meditation book based on the Messages of Our Lady of Medjugorje by Father Richard J. Beyer, Ave Maria Press.

Mar 31 - OPEN YOUR HEARTS TO THE HOLY SPIRIT

The Holy Spirit is the topic of Our Lady's message today:

"Dear Children, during these days I call you to especially open your hearts to the Holy Spirit, who is working through you. Open your hearts and surrender your lives to Jesus so that he can work through your hearts and strengthen you in faith (Weekly Message May 23, 1985).

And from Acts:

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon yon; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8).

Reflections:

Jesus wishes to give us the power of the Holy Spirit, and the Blessed Mother asks us to be open to receive his power. With faith and openness, then let us pray to the Spirit using The Sequence of the Holy Spirit, one of the loveliest prayer-poems of the church:

Holy Spirit, Lord of light, from the clear celestial height Thy pure beaming radiance give. Come, thou Father of the poor, Come, with treasures which endure; Come, thou light of all that live!

Thou, of all consolers best, Thou, the soul's delightful guest, Dost refreshing peace bestow; Thou in toil art comfort sweet; Pleasant coolness in the heat; Solace in the midst of woe.

Light immortal, light divine, Visit thou these hearts of thine, And our inmost being fill: If thou take thy grace away, Nothing pure in man will stay; All his good is turned to ill.

Heal our wounds, our strength renew; On our dryness pour thy dew; Wash the stains of guilt away; Bend the stubborn heart and will; Melt the frozen, warm the chill; Guide the steps that go astray.

Thou, on us who evermore Thee confess and thee adore, With thy sevenfold gifts descend: Give us comfort when we die; Give us life with thee on high; Give us joys that never end.

Application:

Make it a habit to pray to the Holy Spirit each day, as the Virgin asks of us.

Medjugorje Day By Day Mar 30 - REFLECT ON JESUS PASSION

"The privileged place where we can find this Jesus 'in agony until the end of the world' is the Eucharist. Jesus instituted it immediately before going to the Garden of Olives so that his disciples would be able, in every age, to make themselves 'contemporary' with his Passion.

If the Spirit inspires in us the desire to be one hour at the side of Jesus in Gethsemane this Lent, the simplest way to achieve it is to spend, on Thursday afternoon, one hour before the Blessed Sacrament" (Father Raniero
Cantalamessa, March 17, 2006).

"This practice of adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, repeatedly praised and recommended by the Magisterium, is supported by the example of many saints. Particularly outstanding in this regard was Saint Alphonsus Liguori, who wrote: `

Of all devotions, that of adoring Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is the greatest after the sacraments, the one dearest to God and the one most helpful to us'. The Eucharist is a priceless treasure: by not only celebrating it but also by praying before it outside of Mass we are enabled to make contact with the very wellspring of grace.

A Christian community desirous of contemplating the face of Christ . . . cannot fail also to develop this aspect of Eucharistic worship, which prolongs and increases the fruits of our communion in the body and blood of the Lord."

"Like the woman who anointed Jesus in Bethany, the Church has feared no `extravagance', devoting the best of her resources to expressing her wonder and adoration before the unsurpassable gift of the Eucharist" (Ecclesia de Eucharistia, Pope John Paul II, 25 and 48).

Mother Teresa -
Our yes to God is without any reservations.

We are at Jesus' disposal.
If He wants you to be sick in bed,
if He wants you to proclaim His word in the street,
that's all right, everything is all right.

Meditations by Padre Pio -
. I am extremely pleased to hear that the Lord is always generous with His caresses towards your souls. I know you are suffering, but isn't this suffering a sure sign that God loves you? (Letters III, p. 707).

Archbishop Fulton Sheen

Passion is blind without knowledge

"Passion is not a reflex like the watering of a dog's mouth in the presence of food. It is true that there are many similarities between passion in animals and passion in man, but it must never be forgotten that in man, passion cannot operate unless something is known."

St. Faustina's diary http://www.marian.org/directory_flash.html -
When I entered the chapel for a moment in the evening, I felt a terrible thorn in my head. This lasted for a short time, but the pricking was so painful that in an instant my head dropped onto the communion rail. It seemed to me that the thorn had thrust itself into my brain. But all this is nothing; it is all for the sake of souls, to obtain God's mercy for them. (1399)

Christ, give me souls. Let anything You like happen to me, but give me souls in return. I want the salvation of souls. I want souls to know Your mercy. I have nothing left for myself, because I have given everything away to souls, with the result that on the day of judgment I will stand before You empty-handed, since I have given everything away to souls. Thus You will have nothing on which to judge me, and we shall meet on that day: Love and mercy... (1426)

Today during confession, breaking the wafer with me spiritually, he [my confessor] gave me the following wishes: "Be as faithful as you can to the grace of God; secondly, beg God's mercy for yourself and for the whole world, because we are all in great need of God's mercy." (1432)

MEDJUGORJE DAY BY DAY
These thoughts for a day are taken from a daily meditation book based on the Messages of Our Lady of Medjugorje by Father Richard J. Beyer, Ave Maria Press.

Mar 30 - REFLECT ON JESUS' PASSION

The Blessed Virgin speaks of the cross and prayer today:

Dear children, here is my second message for Lent. Renew your prayer before the cross. Dear children, I offer you special graces and Jesus offers you the extraordinary merits of the cross. Accept them and live! Reflect on Jesus ` passion. Unite your life to his (Weekly Message February 20, 1986).

Scripture and Reflection:

In view of Our Lady's message today, it might be well for us to simple meditate on the Passion of her Son, rather than engage in commentary St. Thomas a Kempis emphasized this as well when he wrote, "Take comfort in the Passion of Christ, and dwell willingly in his sacred wounds. Endure with Christ, suffer for him, if you wish to reign with him."

As you meditate on the passion narrative of St. Mark, read the lines unhurriedly, and pause in silent prayer if a phrase or word strikes you, for this is the Holy Spirit at work.

Then the soldiers led him into the courtyard of the palace (that is, the governor's headquarters); and they called together the whole cohort. And they clothed him in a purple cloak; and after twisting some thorns into a crown, they put it on him. And they began saluting him, "Hail, King of the Jews!" They struck his head with a reed, spat upon him, and knelt down in homage to him. After mocking him, they stripped him of the purple cloak and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him out to crucify him.

Then they brought Jesus to the placed called Golgotha (which means the place of the skull). And they offered him wine mixed with myrrh; but he did not take it. And they crucified him, and divided his clothes among them. Casting lots to decide what each should take.

When it was noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon. At three o'clock Jesus cried out with a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi. Lema sabachtani?" which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"

When some of the bystanders heard it, they said, Listen, he calling for Elijah." And someone ran, filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on a stick, and gave it to him to drink, saying, "Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to take him down."

Then Jesus gave a loud cry and breathed his last breath. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. Now when the centurion, who stood facing him, saw that in this way be breathed his last, he said, "Truly this man was God's Son!" (Mk 15:16-20, 22-24, 33-39).

Application:
Today, spend five minutes in meditation before the cross.

Medjugorje Day By Day Mar 29 - Wipe the tears from my face

"The Way of the Cross is thus a path leading to the heart of the Eucharistic mystery: popular piety and sacramental piety of the Church blend together and become one" (Pope Benedict XVI).

People do not know the secrets, my children, but when they learn of them it will be too late. Return to prayer! Nothing is more important. I wish the Lord would permit to enlighten you a little more about the secrets, but the graces you have already received are great enough.

Think how much you have offended him What have you given him of yourself? When was the last time you gave up something for the Lord? I do not want to reprimand you further, but to call you once again to prayer, fasting, and penance. If you wish to obtain a special grace from God by fasting, then let no one know you are fasting. If you wish to obtain a certain grace from God through a gift to the poor, then keep your almsgiving a secret between you and the Lord.

Listen to me, my children! Meditate on my message in prayer (Special Message January 28, 1987).

And from the Acts of the Apostles, this quote from Isaiah echoes Our Lady's words:

For this people's heart has grown dull, and their ears are hard of hearing, and they have shut their eyes; so that they might not look with their eyes, and listen with their ears, and understand with their heart and turnand I would heal them (Acts 28:27).

Application:

Simply heed the Gospa's advice in the last sentence of her message today: "Meditate on my message in prayer."

"Why do you fear, O man of earth? For current events do not threaten you if you live in Holy Love--My two great commandments. I have formed of you a holy nation and set you apart from anarchy and rambling political affairs. Of this nation shall arise a fortress of hope. The time has come now to recognize that your citizenship is in Heaven. On earth let your hearts be united as one in Our United Hearts."

"This holy nation has a stable and solid constitution which is the law of Holy Love; this nation has its economy based on My Provision and it will not fail you."

"Therefore, rejoice and do not fear. No revolution can overthrow what I have now set in place, for this holy nation is in hearts. The boundaries of this nation are from horizon to horizon, and from Heaven to earth. It will not fall to ruin but rise up in victory when I return. Patient hope will be your flag; carry it in your hearts. The peace it brings you will identify you in crowds--one to the other."

"Therefore, do not be chained to fear of the future and what it will bring. Unchain your hearts with the key of patient hope and trust in Me."

SUNDAY, MARCH 29, 2009

MY DEAR DEAR PRECIOUS LITTLE CHILDREN,

IT IS THE DAY OF THE LORD. REJOICE IN HIS LOVE AND MERCY. HE REIGNS MY CHILDREN AND YOU NEED NOT BE ANXIOUS. IT IS THE DAY OF THE LORD, THANK YOU FOR KEEPING IT HOLY.

DEAR CHILDREN, YOU HAVE SO MUCH THAT IS DISTURBING TO YOU. YOU ARE SADDENED BY THE LEADERS OF YOUR NATION, BUT BEYOND THAT YOUR HEARTS ARE CRUSHED AT THOSE WHO BETRAY THE CHURCH AND ITS TRUTHS. INDEED, YOUR HEARTS ARE SORROWED.

LET ME SAY TO YOU THAT THE WOUNDED HEART OF JESUS SUFFERS BEYOND WORDS. THERE MUST BE COURAGE TO GO AGAINST SUCH EVIL AND NOW IS THE TIME TO PLANT FIRMLY IN THE TRUTH SWAYING NEITHER TO THE LEFT OR TO THE RIGHT, BUT STANDING FIRMLY CONSIDERING ONLY JESUS. PUT FORTH YOUR VOICE AND YOUR HEARTS, PROTECTING THE CHURCH AND THE TRUTH THEREIN, REGARDLESS OF THE CONSEQUENCES.

THIS IS THE TIME FOR COURAGE AND A TIME TO MAKE YOUR STATEMENT TO THE WORLD. YOU WILL BE HATED, PERSECUTED AND LOOKED DOWN UPON. BUT CONSIDER WHO AND WHAT IT IS YOU DEFEND - AND THEN PRAISE AND THANK GOD THAT YOU ARE AMONGST THOSE CALLED TO DO SO.

THE PRIESTS MUST BE IN SOLIDARITY. REVERENCE AND PROPER CARE OF THE HOLY EUCHARIST MUST BECOME PRIORITY THAT MAN DOES NOT LOSE HIS SOUL BECAUSE OF THE ATTITUDE OF CASUAL POSTURE AND INDIFFERENCE. BE ON GUARD THIS HOLY WEEK, THAT JESUS DOES NOT SUFFER FROM INGRATITUDE. IF YOU MUST, MAKE REPARATION FOR THOSE WHO DO NOT LOVE MY SON.

TODAY I WHISPER TO EACH HEART I LOVE YOU. MY BELOVED PRIEST-SON SHALL GIVE TO YOU THE BLESSING OF CHRIST. RECEIVE IT WITH HUMILITY PRAISING AND THANKING GOD NOW AND FOREVER.

Vision to littlest of servants March 29, 2009

While in Church this morning during Mass I received the following vision.

I saw a MAN holding a CRUCIFIX in HIS HANDS. I was given the understanding that this MAN was the HOLY SPIRIT.

I saw that the HOLY SPIRIT looked like the ETERNAL FATHER and JESUS.

he HOLY SPIRIT then spoke and told me that soon HE WILL BE COMING TO EACH PERSON TO OFFER THEM THE CRUCIFIX AND THAT IF A PERSON ACCEPTS HE WILL GENTLY PLACE IT IN THEIR HEART NEVER TO BE TAKEN OUT.

THAT BY HIS POWER THIS CRUCIFIX WILL REMAIN FOREVER.

HE TOLD ME THAT THIS GREAT EVENT IS NEAR AND THAT HE WOULD BE COMING THROUGH THE GOLDEN GATE WHICH I UNDERSTOOD TO BE THE IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY.

Later I was thinking about my sins and about how unworthy I am.

JESUS then spoke and asked me who was worthy to enter the KINGDOM OF HEAVEN without HIM, that is, who is without sin.

I replied no one. HE then told me that when HE WAS LYING ON THE CROSS AND THE SOLDIERS WERE POUNDING THE NAIL INTO HIS HAND THAT THE PAIN WAS SO GREAT NO PERSON (outside of HIS MOTHER) could begin to comprehend the PAIN. IT WAS SO GREAT!!!

HE continued and told me that HIS WHOLE BODY WAS SHAKING AND HIS LIPS WERE QUIVERING FROM THE PAIN and it was at this time that HE ASKED HIS FATHER TO ACCEPT HIS GREAT SUFFERING IN PAYMENT FOR OUR SINS. FATHER FORGIVE THEM AND ACCEPT MY WORTHY SACRIFICE FOR THE SALVATION OF ALL MANKIND.

REJOICE YOUR REDEMPTION IS AT HAND. YOU WILL NOT BE ABANDONED. I KNOW MY SHEEP AND MY SHEEP KNOW ME AND I WILL NOT LEAVE YOU ABANDONED AND ALONE.
