"I am the Lord of the Sabbath"

Tuesday, March 03, 2009

Dear Friends,

Picking Grain on the Sabbath

"At that time Jesus was going through a field of grain on the Sabbath. His disciples were hungry and began to pick the heads of grain and eat them. When the Pharisees saw this, they said to him, 'See your disciples are doing what is unlawful to do on the Sabbath.'

He said to them, 'Have you not read what David did when he and his companions were hungry, how he went into the house of God and ate the bread of offering, which neither he nor his companions but only the priests could lawfully eat?

Or have you not read in the law that on the Sabbath the priests serving in the temple violate the Sabbath and are innocent? I say to you, something greater than the temple is here. If you knew what this meant, 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice,' you would not have condemned innocent men. For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.'" Matthew 12:1-8

We had a dreary day yesterday with fog and cloud, and it snowed at times and ice pellets fell especially in the evening. This storm should clear up today and we should see the sun again. The temperature is just around the freezing point.

Here is another message from Our Lord given to Joseph. Jesus spoke to him in these words, "How many times was I accused by the Pharisees of breaking the law and offending God?

If I cured a sick person on the Sabbath, I was accused of offending God. If My disciples plucked grains of wheat from a field on the Sabbath, they were accused of offending God. The truth is that there is no sin if a person does good on the Day of the Lord and not evil. One can eat on the Sabbath if one is hungry and that is not a sin.

These Pharisees did not know who was talking to them for I am the Lord of the Sabbath. I was with the Father when He created the world and everything in it. I was with Him when he set up the Sabbath. That is why I can say that there is one here who is greater than the temple.

The Jewish Sabbath is on Saturday but My followers celebrate the Lord's Day on Sunday. The reason why this has happened is because with Me many things happened on Sunday: I rose from the dead on Easter Sunday; the First Pentecost took place on Sunday. So My Church at the time of the Apostles would meet to pray on Sunday to celebrate My resurrection. I agree and I am happy that Sunday is now the Holy Day."

Novena For World Peace, El Paso Texas

Jesus said, Melvin, I love you and I continue to accompany you every day. Your visit for the Novena For World Peace to El Paso, Texas, is progressing and I AM touching many people.

My people do not be afraid and do not be discouraged when you suffer or when the Cross is heavy on you. Follow Me and I will lighten your burden. Alone you cannot carry this cross but with Me you will successfully carry it to the end.

During this Lenten season, I call you all, to devote yourselves more to prayer. Let Me take the first place in your life. Come to Me through contemplative prayer and be My great friend and you will be blessed. Pray your rosary devotedly every day with great love. I call you to pray with all your heart.

Read these days the bible, especially the Prophet Isaiah and the Gospels. It is through prayer and fasting that you will become more spiritual and your well being in close union with Me. Remember that I died for you because I love you.

Medjugorje Day By Day Mar 12 - Only Peace

"Go to adoration as one who would go to heaven, to the divine banquet. Our Lord will give us audience of grace and love. He is waiting for us. He is longing for us." (St. Peter Julian Eymard)

"The soul that receives the Divine Blood becomes beautiful, as being clothed in a more precious garment, and it appears so beautifully aglow that if you could see it you would be tempted to adore it" (St. Mary Magdalene di Pazzi).

The Cross is the coin of inestimable value and if I, Holy Spouse, shall have the fortune of possessing it, I shall enrich myself with eternal coins unto making myself the richest of Paradise, for the money that circulates in Heaven is the Cross that is suffered on earth.

Mother Teresa -
The fullness of our heart is expressed in our eyes, in our touch, in what we rite, in what we say, in the way we walk, the way we receive, the way we need. That is the fullness of our heart expressing itself in many different ways.

Works without interior spirit inflates the soul

Meditations by Padre Pio -
I would prefer to love a thousand crosses, or rather, every cross would be sweet and light for me if I did not have this trial of always being uncertain if my works are pleasing to the Lord? it is painful to live like this? I resign myself, but my resignation, my fiat seems so cold to me, so useless!? what a mystery! Jesus alone must see to it (AD, 93f.).

Archbishop Fulton Sheen

Trust that in the end all will work out right.
"There is a world of difference between submitting to the Divine Will from sullenness and submitting to it knowing that God is Supreme Wisdom, and that some day we will know all that happened, happened for the best."

St. Faustina's diary http://www.marian.org/directory_flash.html -
The flames of mercy are burning me. I desire to pour them out upon human souls. Oh, what pain they cause Me when they do not want to accept them!

My daughter, do whatever is within your power to spread devotion to My mercy. I will make up for what you lack. Tell aching mankind to snuggle close to My merciful Heart, and I will fill it with peace.

Tell [all people], My daughter, that I am Love and Mercy itself When a soul approaches Me with trust, I fill it with such an abundance of graces that it cannot contain them within itself, but radiates them to other souls. (1074)

Souls who spread the honor of My mercy I shield through their entire lives as a tender mother her infant, and at the hour of death I will not be a Judge for them, but the Merciful Savior. At that last hour, a soul has nothing with which to defend itself except My mercy. Happy is the soul that during its lifetime immersed itself in the Fountain of Mercy, because justice will have no hold on it. (1075)

MEDJUGORJE DAY BY DAY

These thoughts for a day are taken from a daily meditation book based on the Messages of Our Lady of Medjugorje by Father Richard J. Beyer, Ave Maria Press.

Mar 12 - ONLY PEACE
On the third day of the apparitions, as Marija was descending Podbrdo, she was drawn to the side of the path where she again saw the Blessed Virgin. Weeping, and carrying a wooden cross, the Madonna said:

Peace, Peace, Peace! Be reconciled! Only Peace. Make your peace with God and among yourselves. For that, it is necessary to believe, to pray, to fast, and to go to confession (First Years June 6, 1981).

In Isaiah, there is also anguish in the absence of peace:

Listen! The valiant cry in the streets; The envoys of peace weep bitterly. The highways are deserted; travelers have quit the road. The treaty is broken, Its oaths are despised, its obligations is disregarded. The land mourns and languishes; Lebanon is confounded and withers away; Sharon is like a desert; And Bashan and Carmel shake off their leaves. Isaiah 33:7-9

Reflection:

Our Lady's words today comprise her first and most powerful message on peace. Weeping and carrying a cross symbolizing man's sin, enmity and strife, she pleads for reconciliation. And she immediately gives us the means: faith, prayer, fasting, and confession.

Given on the third day of the apparitions, the Virgin in effect summarizes her messages for all the years ahead. We can only surmise the gravity of the world's situation which has required her to stay with us so long.

In Colossians, Paul also tells us to let peace reign in our hearts. Our hearts are the center of conflict, for their feelings and desires clash our fears and hopes, our distrust and trust, our jealousy and love. How can we deal with these constant conflicts and live as God wants? Both Paul and the Blessed Mother ask that we decide between conflicting elements by using the rule of peace: which choice will promote peace in our souls and among our neighbors?

Applications:

Referring back to the Virgin's message, are we promoting peace through the means she gives us? Today, how can you be a peacemaker within your family, your workplace, your parish?

Medjugorje Day By Day Mar 11 - Monthly confession will be a remedy

"Today I am weak; I need a strength from on high to sustain me; and Jesus descended from Heaven; Jesus has become the Eucharist, the Bread of the strong!"
Augustine Maria of the Blessed Sacrament, (Hermann Cohen).

"Had I but Mary's sinless heart

To love Thee with, my dearest King!

O, with what bursts of fervent praise

Thy goodness, Jesus, would I sing!

Sweet Sacrament! we Thee adore!

O, make us love Thee more and more!"

(Fr. Faber)

The Cross is fire and reduces to ashes all that is not of God, unto emptying the heart of the smallest blade of grass that could be there.

Mother Teresa -
God speaks in the silence of the heart, and we listen. And then we speak to God from the fullness of our heart, and God listens.
And this listening and this speaking is what prayer is meant to be: oneness with God, oneness with Jesus.

Everything that carries light is from God

Meditations by Padre Pio -
Some interior consolations are for infant souls. They are not signs of perfection. It is not consolations that are needed, but suffering. Aridity, listlessness, helplessness, these are the signs of real love. Suffering is pleasant. Exile is beautiful because by suffering we have something to give God. The gift of our pain, of our sufferings is a great thing, which we cannot do in Paradise (GB, 35).

Archbishop Fulton Sheen

Thy Will be done on earth, as it is in Heaven.
"In contentment one does not submit before he has prayed and acted, but after one has done all he can, accepting the event as the will of the Lord."

St. Faustina's diary http://www.marian.org/directory_flash.html -
I realize more and more how much every soul needs God's mercy throughout life and particularly at the hour of death. This chaplet mitigates God's anger, as He himself told me. (1036)

I am immensely happy, although I am the least of all; and I would not change anything of what God has given me. I would not want to change places even with a Seraph, as regards the interior knowledge of God which He Himself has given me. The intimate knowledge I have of the Lord is such as no creature can comprehend, particularly, the depth of His mercy that envelops me. I am happy with everything You give me. (1049)

In the morning, during Mass, I heard these words: Tell the superior that I want adoration to take place here for the intention of imploring mercy for the world. (1070)

MEDJUGORJE DAY BY DAY

These thoughts for a day are taken from a daily meditation book based on the Messages of Our Lady of Medjugorje by Father Richard J. Beyer, Ave Maria Press.

Mar 11 - CONFESSION WILL BE THE REMEDY
Regarding questions on confession, the Blessed Virgin answered:

One must invite people to go to confession each month, especially the first Saturday. Here I have not spoken about it yet. I have invited some people to frequent confession. I will give you yet some concrete messages for our time. Be patient because the time has not yet come. Do what I have told you. They are numerous who do not observe it. Monthly confession will be a remedy for the church in the West. One must convey this message to the West (Special Message August 6, 1982).

Psalm 32 speaks of confession and its fruit:

Then I acknowledged my sin to you, And I did not hide my iniquity; I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,"

And you forgave the guilt of my sin.

Therefore let all who are faithful offer prayer to you; At a time of distress, the rush of might waters shall not reach them. Psalm 32L5-6)

Reflection:

A soldier asked a holy monk if God accepted repentance. He said, "Tell me, if your cloak is torn do you throw it away?" The soldier replied, "No, I mend it and use it again." The old man said to him, "If you are so careful about your cloak, will not God be equally careful about his people?"

To experience the joy of forgiveness is a great gift of God, but it requires that we let go of our guilt and truly believe that the Lord has actually forgiven us. This can be difficult when a sin has taken deep root and grown over many years, or if it is very serious or causes deep shame.

Then we are in need of a special grace that will convince us of God's infinite mercy that remits all sin of whatever depth or kind. This grace puts us tin mind of the staggering price Jesus paid for our souls through his Passion and death, and almost impossible love that absorbs all sin, hurt, shame, and injury.

Therefore not to accept the Lord's forgiveness is to belittle or even ignore his Passion and cross, to say to him in effect: «I don't believe you. Your love isn't great enough to forgive this sin, to wash away my guilt. And so I refuse you." This is a self-inflicted exile that Satan always has a hand in.

Clearly it is much better to pray for the grace to realize God's forgiveness deep within ourselves, that we may be healed and set free.

Application:

As we see, the sacrament of confession is a great gift. If you haven't done so already, mark your calendar for your Lenten confession. Can you also schedule a regular day each month when you can receive the sacrament, as Our Lady asks today?

Medjugorje Day By Day Mar 10 - Conquer some fault each day

"Go to adoration as one who would go to heaven, to the divine banquet. Our Lord will give us audience of grace and love. He is waiting for us. He is longing for us." (St. Peter Julian Eymard)

The Cross is Light and undeceives me of the temporal and unveils to me the Eternal.

"Invite them all, men and women, of every class and degree, and compel them to come in, for this is the bread of life of which they all stand in need. This is the only bread the Church of Jesus Christ has at her disposal; a bread to satisfy all the longings of our souls, to unite them closely to Jesus Christ, to form into 'one body' and one community of brethren all those who sit at the same heavenly Table, so that breaking one bread they may receive the medicine that gives immortality" (Pope Pius XII).

Mother Teresa -
Faith in action through prayer, faith in action through service: each is the same thing, the same love, the same compassion. This is something that should encourage us and should be a strength for us, that we complete each other more fully

The works which please me most are the hidden works, because they are deprived of every human spirit.

Meditations by Padre Pio -
Our Lord sometimes makes you feel the weight of the cross. This weight seems unbearable but you carry it because, in His love and mercy, the Lord helps you and gives you strength (CE, 21).

Companions of the Cross

Archbishop Fulton Sheen

No room for doom and gloom!

"Contentment has no kinship with fatalism which refuses to plan or act in the belief that nothing can be altered. It is such fatalism which characterizes certain Eastern philosophies and makes progress impossible."

St. Faustina's diary http://www.marian.org/directory_flash.html -

This evening, a certain young man was dying; he was suffering terribly. For his intention, I began to say the chaplet which the Lord had taught me. I said it all, but the agony continued. I wanted to start the Litany of the Saints, but suddenly I heard the words, Say the chaplet.

I understood that the soul needed the special help of prayers and great mercy. And so I locked myself in my room and fell prostrate before God and begged for mercy upon that soul. Then I felt the great majesty of God and His great justice. I trembled with fear, but did not stop begging the Lord's mercy for that soul.

Then I took the cross off my breast, the crucifix I had received when making my vows, and I put it on the chest of the dying man and said to the Lord, "Jesus, look on this soul with the same love with which You looked on my holocaust on the day of my perpetual vows, and by the power of the promise which You made to me in respect to the dying and those who would invoke Your mercy on them, [grant this man the grace of a happy death]."

His suffering then ceased, and he died peacefully. Oh, how much we should pray for the dying! Let us take advantage of mercy while there is still time for mercy. (1035)

MEDJUGORJE DAY BY DAY

These thoughts for a day are taken from a daily meditation book based on the Messages of Our Lady of Medjugorje by Father Richard J. Beyer, Ave Maria Press.

Mar 10 - CONQUER SOME FAULT EACH DAY

During Lent of 1985, Our Lady said to Jelena:

"I give you some advice: I would like you to try to conquer some fault each day, If your fault is to get angry at everything, try each day to get angry less. If your fault is not to be able to study, try to study.

If your fault is not to be able to obey, or if you cannot stand those who do not please you, try on a given day to speak with them. If your fault is not to be able to stand an arrogant person, you should try to approach that person. If you desire that person to be humble, be humble yourself. Show that humility is worth or than pride.

Thus, each day, try to go beyond, and to reject every vice from your heart. Find out which are the vices that you most need to reject. During this Lent, you should try and truly desire to spend it in love. Strive as much as possible." (Locution Jelena & Mirajana February 20, 1985).

In his first letter, Peter also speaks of rejecting vices:

You have already spent enough time in doing what the Gentiles like to do, living in licentiousness, passions, drunkenness, revels, carousing, and lawless idolatry…The end of all things is near, therefore be serious and discipline yourselves for the sake of your prayers (1 Pt 4:3.7)

Reflection:

Philip Henry, a 15th Century English writer, once wrote that, "Sins are like circles in the water when a stone is thrown into it; one produces another. When anger was in Cain's heart, murder was not far off," Recognizing our sins and the vices that produce them is not a pleasant task, yet it is the doorway to peace and holiness. The sacrament of confession is especially helpful in this.

In our examination of conscience we can go one step further to identify the roots of our sins. For example, the sin of lying may be founded in pride; sexual misconduct rooted in selfishness. Once we identify these roots, we can then take action to modify and eventually eliminate them for our lives, as Our Lady asks today; "Each day try to go beyond, to reject every vice from your heart."

Application:

When you prepare for your next confession, actually write down your sins and, next to them, the vice from which they come. During the sacrament itself, present both to your priest so that the Lord can begin his healing work within you.

MESSAGE FROM HEAVEN
SHARON FITZPATRICK LOCUTIONIST

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 11, 2009

MY DEAR DEAR PRECIOUS LITTLE CHILDREN,

YOU HAVE COME TO PRAY ONCE MORE WITH THE MOTHER OF GOD. HOW PROFOUND - HOW FEW CAN BELIEVE IT. MY CHILDREN IT IS NOT IMPORTANT TO YOU IF OTHERS BELIEVE IN THESE PETALS FROM HEAVEN.

WHAT IS IMPORTANT FOR YOU IS THAT YOU BELIEVE, YOU TRUST, YOU EXPERIENCE IT. YOU HAVE BEEN GIVEN SUCH GRACE, SUCH GIFTS, SOME NEVER ALLOTTED ANY OTHERS.

OH DO YOU SEE HOW BLESSED YOU ARE. YOU HAVE ACCEPTED GODS GRACE AND YOUR DEEP FAITH HAS BEEN ENHANCED BY IT. WE ARE IN UNITY, CONTINUE TO PRAY DESPITE ANY DRYNESS YOU MIGHT FEEL. YOU HAVE BEEN IN THE DESERT BEFORE AND HAVE ALWAYS FOUND THE OASIS OF LIFE. DO NOT SWAY BUT REMAIN STRONG AND FIRM. THIS IS YOUR JOURNEY TO THE NEW HEAVENS AND THE NEW EARTH - AND ONE DAY YOU SHALL AWAKEN TO THEM.

GIVE TO ME YOUR HEARTS. GIVE TO JESUS YOUR SOULS. LET EACH DAY BE A RENEWING OF YOUR COMMITMENT AND AWARENESS OF GODS TREMENDOUS LOVE FOR YOU. I ENCOURAGE YOU CHILDREN IN OUR PRAYER - I IMPLORE YOU TO HOLD FAST AND ALWAYS ACCEPTING OF GODS GRACE.

HAVING SAID THIS, I BLESS YOU MY CHILDREN, IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER, THE SON, AND THE HOLY SPIRIT.

AS MY BELOVED PRIEST-SONS GIVE TO YOU THE BLESSING OF CHRIST, I RETURN TO THEM A BLESSING OF LOVE, GIVEN FROM THIS MOTHER TO ENCOURAGE THEM IN THIS TIME AS WELL.

GIVE PRAISE AND THANKS TO THE ALMIGHTY GOD - DO THIS NOW AND FOREVER.

SHORT POWERFUL PRAYER THROUGH ST. JOSEPH

"Glorious St. Joseph, tenderhearted father, faithful
guardian of Jesus, chaste spouse of the Mother of
God, I ask you to join me in praising God the Father
through His Divine Son who died on the cross and
rose again to give us sinners new life. Through the
Holy Name of Jesus, pray with me that we may obtain
from the eternal Father the favor we ask. (here
state your intention)."

Say this prayer for nine consecutive days.

Fear not! God is your shelter (the 23rd Psalm and the Lord’s Prayer. God never fails. Don’t fail him. Call on Jesus. Jesus on the mainline, tell him what you want!
