Prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary Protectress of Africa

Holy Mary, Mother of God, Protectress of Africa, you have given to the world the true Light, Jesus Christ. Through your obedience to the Father and the grace of the Holy Spirit, you have given us the source of our reconciliation and our justice, Jesus Christ, our peace and our joy.

Mother of Tenderness and Wisdom, show us Jesus, your Son and the Son of God. Guide our path of conversion, so that Jesus might shine his glory on us in every aspect of our personal, familial and social lives.

Mother, full of Mercy and Justice, through your docility to the Spirit, the Counselor, obtain for us the grace to be witnesses of the Risen Lord, so that we will increasingly become the salt of the earth and the light of the world.

Mother of Perpetual Help, we entrust to your maternal intercession the preparation and fruits of the Second Special Assembly for Africa. Queen of Peace, pray for us! Our Lady of Africa, pray for us!

Yaounde, 19 March 2009

Fr Doucette - Fri, Mar 20, 2009: "Come, let us love one another

FATHER MELVIN DOUCETTE

"Come, let us love one another"

Friday, March 20, 2009
(The first day of Spring)

Dear Friends,

The Demand for a Sign

Then some of the scribes and Pharisees said to him, Teacher, we wish to see a sign from you. He said to them in reply, An evil and unfaithful generation seeks a sign, but no sign will be given it except the sign of Jonah the prophet. Just as Jonah was in the belly of the whale three days and three nights, so will the Son of Man be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights.

At the judgment, the men of Nineveh will arise with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and there is something greater than Jonah here. At the judgment the Queen of the south will arise with this generation and condemn it, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and there is something greater than Solomon here. Matthew 12:38 42

I give you now another message from Our Lord and Savior addressed to Joseph. Jesus spoke to him these words, The scribes and Pharisees were always asking for a sign. As they were an evil and unfaithful generation, the only sign I would give them was the sign of Jonah who was three days and three nights in the belly of the whale.

This sign of mine was the fact that after My death, I was buried for three days and three nights and then I came back to life. My resurrection is the great sign I gave the world that I am indeed the Son of God. I am the first person ever to come back from the dead and never die again. This sign shows the power of God who can bring back the dead to life.

If I had remained in the tomb, there would be no church today and I would have been forgotten. This great miracle showed the Apostles and all those who study it that I am divine and all I said is true. I brought you the teachings of the Father and all are called to believe the message.

I want a special relationship with each one of you. I have shown you My love through all My suffering and My death on the cross. Come, let us love one another.

Medjugorje Day By Day Mar 22 - I have been appealing for renewal
"We all have in him [St. Joseph] a model and a protector. As adorers of the Sacramental Jesus, we continue near the Blessed Sacrament his service, his adoration and his love. He will watch over us and give us his spirit and virtues. Leading us to Jesus, he will say to Him: 'I cannot be on earth any longer to watch over You and serve You, but bless these adorers who are replacing me; give them the graces You gave me, so that their service may recall and replace mine.'

How happy St. Joseph is to see us crowding about Jesus in His Sacrament, feeble, abandoned, persecuted, more in need of defenders and servants than in His Infancy . . . . Saint Joseph, be my protector, my model, and my father in my service of Jesus Eucharistic" (St. Peter Julian Eymard).

"Our Eucharistic faith tells us that Christ the King is himself here present, the tabernacle serving equivalently as his throne of grace. In this context, then, we may aptly apply the inspired and inspiring words: 'Let us come boldly before the throne of grace, to meet with mercy and win that grace which will help us in our needs'" (Heb. 4:16). (Fr. Richard Foley, S.J.)

Mother Teresa -
Our ideal is no one but Jesus.

We must think as He thinks,

love as He loves,

wish as He wishes;

we must permit Him to use us to the full.

Meditations by Padre Pio -
True servants of God have always preferred adversity as being more in conformity with the way taken by our Head, Who worked out our salvation by means of the cross and humiliations (Epist. IV, p. 148).

Archbishop Fulton Sheen

The empty soul feeds Satan's needs
"Whence came the millions to accept the superstition of Nazism, Fascism, and Communism if it were not from an emptiness of soul brought about by a loss of faith? The essence of political superstition is the identification of the laboring class and Messianism."

St. Faustina's diary http://www.marian.org/directory_flash.html -
Sixth Day

Today bring to me the meek and humble souls and the souls of little children, and immerse them in My mercy. These souls most closely resemble My Heart. They strengthened Me during My bitter agony. I saw them as earthly Angels, who would keep vigil at My altars. I pour out upon them whole torrents of grace. Only the humble soul is able to receive My grace. I favor humble souls with My confidence. (1220)

Most Merciful Jesus, You yourself have said, "Learn from Me for I am meek and humble of heart." Receive into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart all meek and humble souls and the souls of little children. These souls send all heaven into ecstasy and they are the heavenly Father's favorites. They are a sweet-smelling bouquet before the throne of God; God Himself takes delight in their fragrance. These souls have a permanent abode in Your Most Compassionate Heart, O Jesus, and they unceasingly sing out a hymn of love and mercy. (1221)

A truly gentle and humble soul
Already here on earth the air of paradise breathes,
And in the fragrance of her humble heart
The Creator Himself delights. (1222)

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon meek souls, upon humble souls, and upon the souls of little children who are enfolded in the abode which is the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. These souls bear the closest resemblance to Your Son. Their fragrance rises from the earth and reaches Your very throne. Father of mercy and of all goodness, I beg You by the love You bear these souls and by the delight You take in them: Bless the whole world, that all souls together may sing out the praises of Your mercy for endless ages. Amen. (1223)

MEDJUGORJE DAY BY DAY

Mar 22 - I HAVE BEEN APPEALING FOR RENEWAL

The Madonna is firm in her call to Lenten renewal and prayer :

" Dear Children, day after day I have been appealing to you for renewal and prayer in the parish, but you are not responding. Today I am calling you for the last time. This is the season of Lent, and you as a parish should out of love, be moved to live my messages. If you do not, I do not wish to continue giving them. God is permitting me that. Thank you for responding to my call." Weekly Message Feb. 21, 1985

Psalm 38 is a repentant call to God :

For I am ready to fall, And my pain is ever with me. I confess my iniquity; I am sorry for my sin.

Those who are my foes without cause are mighty. And many are those who hate me wrongfully.

Those who render me evil for good Are my adversaries because I follow after good. Do not forsake me, O Lord; O my God, do not be far from me; Make haste to help me, O Lord, my salvation. ---Psalm 38 ;17-22

Reflection :

Both Our Lady and the psalmist today call us to repentance, to acknowledge our sin, neglect, or indifference in the sight of God.

Because we have a tendency to sin or to be spiritually lethargic, repentance is the true measure of spiritual sensitivity. It means asking the Lord to forgive us and then abandoning our sinful or lethargic ways. But we cannot do this sincerely unless we are truly sorry for our misdeeds and then commit ourselves to positive action.

This is the Virgin's wish today, that we take to heart her call to renewal and prayer. It is a serious matter for all of us.

Application :

Review your spiritual life today. Has Lent been a time of prayer and renewal for you? If not, make a fresh start today.

Message Thru Lec - March 21, 2009

March 21, 2009
6:50 A.M.

Note: The Message is not for me alone but also for the readers.- Lec

Son, I speak to you today to remind you of the need to pray for the conversion of sinners as the time of the much delayed rendering of judgment is at hand. Eternity is waiting for both the saved and the unrepentant, the former going to my kingdom of light, peace and happiness and the latter into a place away from my presence.

I wish that more people would awaken to the inescapable fact that each and everyone has to give an account of how each life is lived whether in love and sacrifice or in selfishness and the love of self. Love covers a multitude of sins.

As you love, you increase your capacity to become holy. Be patient with others in their shortcomings. Ask Me for the grace to strengthen you in holiness and virtue and I will grant them. The road to life is thorny and narrow but the road to death is wide and is appealing to the senses. Die to self that you may have everlasting life in full abundance and never ending delights.

Go in peace!

Holy Love Messages:
March 25, 2005

Conversation with Divine Love; (Good Friday)

"I am your Jesus, born Incarnate."

"On this day so many hundreds of years long past, salvation mounted the Cross. Yes, Love and Mercy made one--suffered and died for all and for each one. My pain was made more intense when I looked upon My Sorrowing Mother. Still today--for there is no time or space in Heaven--you can console My Mother as She stands at the foot of the Cross."

"My consolation as I hung dying was the knowledge of the Divine Mercy devotion in these latter days, and the spread of the Confraternity of the United Hearts. The Confraternity opens the font of Divine Love that is My Heart for all to share. It is through knowledge of the Chambers of Our United Hearts souls will be assisted in their mount to perfection and will be able to find, and to imitate Divine Love."

"I held nothing back on Calvary. I surrendered all for the sake of sinners. Each of you must decide to surrender everything to Me in order to be free to choose for Holy and Divine Love."

"No pain I suffered on the Cross was too great, for I beheld the face of humanity before Me. I suffer still when I see any sinner turn away from Me. I implore you--imitate Divine Love and Divine Mercy to one another. I will reach down from the Cross and help you."

March 26, 2005
Conversation with Divine Love; (Holy Saturday)

"I am your Jesus, born Incarnate."

"After My death on the Cross, I descended to a place which was neither Hell nor Purgatory--a place where many awaited Me--the patriarchs--Moses, My foster father Joseph, to name a few. Before I released them to enter the glory of Heaven, I charged each one of them to pray for My Love and Mercy to be made known in these last days."

"I bid them pray for the Divine Mercy Revelation and for the Confraternity of the United Hearts--the two vehicles of My Divine Love and Divine Mercy. I made them understand that these vehicles of My Love and Mercy would convert and save a multitude before My return. Then I sent them to Heaven."

Medjugorje Day By Day Mar 20 - Pray before the crucifix

St. Joseph, Patron of the Universal Church, Spouse of the Bl.
Virgin Mary:

"Jesus seems continually to exclaim from the altar: Come to me, all you who work hard and who carry heavy burdens and I will refresh you (Matthew 11:28).

Come, He says, come you who are poor; come, you who are infirm; come, you who are afflicted; come, you who are just and you who are sinners, and you shall find in me a remedy for all your losses and afflictions. This is the desire of Jesus Christ: to console every person who calls upon Him" (St. Alphonsus Liguori).
-

"O Jesus of the Eucharist! O consecrated Host! O envied Monstrance! O blessed Ciborium, beloved of my heart! The Tabernacle is my Treasure and, far or near, my eyes never lose sight of it, for it contains the God of Love" (Concepcion Cabrera de Armida).

The Cross is that solid wood that preserves and maintains always enkindled the fire of Charity.

Mother Teresa -

To be able to do all these, pray lovingly like children, with an earnest desire to love much and make loved the Love that is not loved.

Food without substance, is worth nothing. They swell the stomach. So are works without an internal spirit and without the right intention. Emptied of Divine Substance, they are worth nothing and serve only to inflate the person, who receives more harm than good.
Meditations by Padre Pio -
Keep strongly and constantly united to God, consecrating all your affections, torments, and your entire self to Him, patiently awaiting the return of that beautiful sun, whenever the Spouse is pleased to visit you through trials of aridity, desolation and darkness of spirit (Letters III, p. 674.)

Archbishop Fulton Sheen

No mystery as to why we have missed the Mystery

"When minds abandon their concern about final destiny, they substitute for the mystery of what happens after death, the mystery of how someone was murdered. But mystery there must be."

St. Faustina's diary http://www.marian. org/directory_ flash.html

Novena - http://www.marian. org/divinemercy/ novena.html

THIRD DAY

"Today bring to Me ALL DEVOUT AND FAITHFUL SOULS, and immerse them in the ocean of My mercy. These souls brought Me consolation on the Way of the Cross. They were that drop of consolation in the midst of an ocean of bitterness."

Most Merciful Jesus, from the treasury of Your mercy, You impart Your graces in great abundance to each and all. Receive us into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart and never let us escape from It. We beg this grace of You by that most wondrous love for the heavenly Father with which Your Heart burns so fiercely.

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon faithful souls, as upon the inheritance of Your Son. For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, grant them Your blessing and surround them with Your constant protection. Thus may they never fail in love or lose the treasure of the holy faith, but rather, with all the hosts of Angels and Saints, may they glorify Your boundless mercy for endless ages. Amen.

FOURTH DAY

"Today bring to Me THOSE WHO DO NOT BELIEVE IN GOD* AND THOSE WHO DO NOT YET KNOW ME. I was thinking also of them during My bitter Passion, and their future zeal comforted My Heart. Immerse them in the ocean of My mercy."

Most compassionate Jesus, You are the Light of the whole world. Receive into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart the souls of those who do not believe in God and of those who as yet do not know You. Let the rays of Your grace enlighten them that they, too, together with us, may extol Your wonderful mercy; and do not let them escape from the abode which is Your Most Compassionate Heart.

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the souls of those who do not believe in You, and of those who as yet do not know You, but who are enclosed in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. Draw them to the light of the Gospel. These souls do not know what great happiness it is to love You. Grant that they, too, may extol the generosity of Your mercy for endless ages.

Amen.

*Our Lord's original words here were "the pagans." Since the pontificate of Pope John XXIII, the Church has seen fit to replace this term with clearer and more appropriate terminology.

FIFTH DAY

"Today bring to Me THE SOULS OF THOSE WHO HAVE SEPARATED THEMSELVES FROM MY CHURCH,* and immerse them in the ocean of My mercy. During My bitter Passion they tore at My Body and Heart, that is, My Church. As they return to unity with the Church, My wounds heal and in this way they alleviate My Passion."

Most Merciful Jesus, Goodness Itself, You do not refuse light to those who seek it of You. Receive into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart the souls of those who have separated themselves from Your Church. Draw them by Your light into the unity of the Church, and do not let them escape from the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart; but bring it about that they, too, come to glorify the generosity of Your mercy.

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the souls of those who have separated themselves from Your Son's Church, who have squandered Your blessings and misused Your graces by obstinately persisting in their errors. Do not look upon their errors, but upon the love of Your own Son and upon His bitter Passion, which He underwent for their sake, since they, too, are enclosed in His Most Compassionate Heart. Bring it about that they also may glorify Your great mercy for endless ages. Amen.

*Our Lord's original words here were "heretics and schismatics, " since He spoke to Saint Faustina within the context of her times. As of the Second Vatican Council, Church authorities have seen fit not to use those designations in accordance with the explanation given in the Council's Decree on Ecumenism (n.3)

. Every pope since the Council has reaffirmed that usage. Saint Faustina herself, her heart always in harmony with the mind of the Church, most certainly would have agreed. When at one time, because of the decisions of her superiors and father confessor, she was not able to execute Our Lord's inspirations and orders, she declared: "I will follow Your will insofar as You will permit me to do so through Your representative.

O my Jesus " I give priority to the voice of the Church over the voice with which You speak to me" (497). The Lord confirmed her action and praised her for it.

MEDJUGORJE DAY BY DAY

These thoughts for a day are taken from a daily meditation book based on the Messages of Our Lady of Medjugorje by Father Richard J. Beyer, Ave Maria Press. To order email soroka@sk.sympatico .ca or 1-866-726-5865

Mar 20 - PRAY BEFORE THE CRUCIFIX

On this day in 1989, the Blessed Virgin said to the prayer group:

"From tonight I ask you to pray even more. Meditate on the wounds of Jesus. Pray as much as you can in front of the crucifix." (Visionary Prayer Group March 20, 1989).

1 Corinthians also speaks of the cross:

For the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God?For Jews demand signs and Greeks desire wisdom, but we proclaim Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For God's foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God's weakness is stronger than human strength (1 Cor 1:18; 22-25)

Reflection:

Once Our Lady said to the seers, "If you knew how much I loved you, you would weep for joy." In much the same way, prayer before a crucifix can bring the same tears, for it is the greatest evidence of God's love in the universe.

This is the reason why Mary asks us to contemplate the wounds of Christ, for they speak so clearly of his love. Christ's entire life, and especially his passion, were one unequaled act of divine love. He would go to any extreme to win us back; he would endure any suffering to save us; he would give anything, even his life. It is hard to fathom such an all-consuming love, but the more we ponder it, the more we realize its astonishing depth. This is Mary's wish.

On the surface, the Lord's crucifixion was an abhorrent and terrifying event---a man tortured to death by degrees. But what motivated Jesus to endure the unthinkable, his intense love for us, is the key to understanding what the world calls "the folly of the cross." Yet believers know that the cross is the inscrutable wisdom of Love seeking its surest proof, its fullest expression for the sake of the beloved.

The mystery of the cross, for truly it is a mystery of the deepest currents of love, can only be comprehended through prayer, and then only by degrees. Hence Our Lady's request today.

Application:

Spend time in prayer today before a crucifix, contemplating the wounds of Christ and the love they signify for you.

"The Way of the Cross is thus a path leading to the heart of the Eucharistic mystery: popular piety and sacramental piety of the Church blend together and become one" (Pope Benedict XVI).

"The swaddling clothes of an infant hid the Son of God in Bethlehem, and the appearance of bread and wine hides the Reality of Christ" (Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen).

Mother Teresa -
Believe in Jesus trust in Him with blind and absolute confidence because He is Jesus. Believe that Jesus and Jesus alone is life and sanctity is nothing but that same Jesus intimately living in you; then His hand will be free with you.
Give yourself unswervingly, conforming yourself in all things to His holy will.
Love Jesus generously.
Love Him trustfully, without looking back and without fear. Give yourself fully to Jesus. He will use you to accomplish great things on the condition that you believe much more in His love than in your weakness.

Meditations by Padre Pio -
Yes, I love the Cross, the Cross alone; I love it because I see it always on Jesus' shoulders (Letters I, p. 377).

Archbishop Fulton Sheen

We have our divine priorities askew

"At the end of the twentieth century [and now in the 21st] we find ourselves living in an era of superstition in which minds believe everything as fanatics and quacks become shrines of worship and objects of adoration."

St. Faustina's diary http://www.marian. org/directory_ flash.html

There is a series of graces which God pours into the soul after these trials by fire. The soul enjoys intimate union with God. It has many visions, both corporeal and intellectual. It hears many supernatural words, and sometimes distinct orders. But despite these graces, it is not self-sufficient.

In fact it is even less so as a result of God's graces, because it is now open to many dangers and can easily fall prey to illusions. It ought to ask God for a spiritual director; but not only must it pray for one, it must also make every effort to find a leader who is an expert in these things, just as a military leader must know the ways along which he will lead [his followers] into battle. A soul that is united with God must be prepared for great and hard-fought battles.

After these purifications and tears, God abides in the soul in a special way, but the soul does not always cooperate with these graces. Not that the soul itself is not willing to work, but it encounters so many interior and exterior difficulties that it really takes a miracle to sustain the soul on these summits.

In this, it absolutely needs a director. People have often sown doubt in my soul, and I myself have sometimes become frightened at the thought that I was, after all, an ignorant person and did not have knowledge of many things, above all, spiritual things. But when my doubts increased, I sought light from my confessor or my superiors. Yet I did not obtain what I desired. (121)

MEDJUGORJE DAY BY DAY
These thoughts for a day are taken from a daily meditation book based on the Messages of Our Lady of Medjugorje by Father Richard J. Beyer, Ave Maria Press.

Mar 21 - GIVE UP SOMETHING DEAR

The Blessed Mother speaks of sacrifice today :

"Thursday (day of the Eucharist), may each one find his way to fast; he who smokes, may abstain from smoking; he who drinks alcohol, have him not drink. Have each one to him. May these recommendations be conveyed to the parish." Special Message Mar 1, 1984

From the prophet Isaiah :

Seek the Lord while he may be found, Call upon him while he is near; Let the wicked forsake their way, And the unrighteous their thoughts; Let them return to the Lord, that he may have Mercy on them, And to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. ---Isaiah 55 :6-7

Reflection :

The concept of sacrifice and repentance reaches far back into the Old Testament. In the ancient rites of animal sacrifice, a person who had sinned brought an unblemished animal to the Temple priest. The individual then placed his hand on the head of the animal while it was killed, symbolizing his identification with the animal as his substitute.

He symbolically transferred his sins to the animal, and thus his sins were taken away (atonement). Finally the animal was burned on the altar, signifying the person's complete dedication to God.

But the Lord required more than a sacrifice. He also asked the sinner to be truly repentant of his sins. The outward symbol (the sacrifice) and the inner change (repentance) were to work together in seeking the forgiveness of God. In our own day, sacrifices such as Our Lady recommends (foregoing alcohol, television, smoking, etc.) also serve as outward signs of repentance, but they also speak of dedication and reverence for the Lord, for they involve the whole person, soul and body, Words of love are easy, but backing them up with sacrifice adds creditability and power to our prayer. Acts of self-denial also keep us focused on the Lord and help build character, in that we learn not to jump at every stray impulse. Involved here are some forgotten truths, brought to light again by the Blessed Virgin.

Application :

Our Lady is very specific in her message today. Let us simply heed her advice.

Holy Name of Jesus, pray with me that we may obtain
from the eternal Father the favor we ask. (here
state your intention)."
