PLACES IN THE BOOK

Antinoe

Now found 6 miles south of Beni Hasan near a village called Sheikh Abada is Antinoe, a headquarters of the ancient Kemetian governor during Kemetian times when Christianity was gaining a foothold. Emperor Hadrian founded the town October 30, 130 A.D. Tradition says the Roman monarch built it to honor Antinus, who jumped into the Nile to save the emperor.

A Headquarters (See) within of the Thebaid, now Esneh, or Esench, a city in Egypt, built by the Emperor Hadrian A. D. 132, in memory of his favorite, Antinous.

Antinoe played a small part in the history of Christianity. It became the seat of a bishopric subject to Thebes, and a good many monasteries were founded in the neighborhood.

Africa Proconsularis

Canopus

Of Kemet (Egypt). Its old Egypt (ian) name was Pikuat. Greeks called it Kanobos, or Kanopos. That was the name of a Greek fleet naval officer buried there. The city lies by the seventh Nomos (Menelaites, later Canopites), near the Canopic mouth.

Martyrs in the persecution of in the reign of terror and persecutions of Roman Emperor Diocletian from there included Athanasia, her three daughters, Cyrus and John. Monks from Tabennisi built a monastery there called Metanoia. Patriarchs of Alexandria found sanctuary in the fifth century religious fights.

About two miles to the east of Canopus is found a church on the spot of an old pagan temple, now dedicated to the Evangelists. Cyril of Alexandria took the relics of the martyrs Cyrus and John to the church. It became a place of pilgrimage.

At Canopus, God healed Sophronius of Jerusalem of an eye problems said incurable by doctors. The saint then wrote the panegyric of the two saints with a collection of seventy miracles worked in their church. (Migne, P.G. LXXXVII, 3379676)

It’s Arabic name is now Aboukir, "Father Cyrus". This honors the first of the martyrs.

Hermopolis Hermopolis Magna

Of Thebais Prima, suffragan of Antinoe, in Egypt. The real name was Khmounoun; in Coptic, Chmoun, from Cairo, 180 miles).

Palladius (Hi Laus. lii) reports the tradition the Holy Family (Mother Maryam, Yusef and Baby Yeshua) came to Hermopolis. Colluthus was martyred there under Maximian.

Athanasius lived there. Lequien (Oriens Christianus, II, 595) says and eight bishops.

Hermopolis Parva

Headquarters (See) of Aeggyptus Prima, suffragan of Alexandria. Dimanhoru or Temaen Hor was the old name. It meant the town of Horus. Coptics called it Tuininhor. Arabs named it Damanhur. Founded on the canal of Lake Mareotis (Mariout) to the Canopic branch of the Nile.

Lequien (Or. Christ, II, 513 sqq.) says a dozen bishops of Hermopolis Parva existed. Dracontius among them, around the year 354 A.D. was exiled for his faith under Constantius. Isidore followed him. (Feast day 3 Jan.). Dioscorus proved oldest of the Tall Brethren the four monks of Nitria from nearby there.

Tabenna

Alexandria: Why so many saints from Alexandria? Because it has always been a seaport. Alexandria the improved the facilities, this was in the decline of our empire.

Further, Our Lord, Yeshua, Jesus the Christ in English was raised near there. My speculation, the place was filled with grace because of the Holy Family's temporary presence.

FATHER MELVIN DOUCETTE

"I am waiting for you"

Monday, February 09, 2009

Dear Friends,

Jesus said, "Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. But it did not collapse; it had been set solidly on rock. And everyone who listens to these words of mine but does not act on them will be like a fool who built his house on sand. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. And it collapsed and was completely ruined." Matthew 7:24-27

I bring you another message from Our Lord and Savior addressed to Joseph. Jesus spoke to him in these words, "The words I bring you are the words of truth that will enlighten you if you believe in them. Accept them as coming from Me, Your Savior, and act on them and you will be on the good road that leads to life.

Be like the wise man who built his house on rock. Although the rain fell, the floods came or the wind blew, the house did not collapse because it was built on rock. Remember I am the rock on which you can build your life. Build on Me and you will not be disappointed.

The one who hears My words but does not act on them, will be like the man who built on sand and when the rain fell, the floods came and the winds blew, the house fell as it had no foundation.

If you do not build on Me, your life too will soon be in ruin because you will have no power to avoid temptations and all kinds of addictions. You will be caught by the world's attraction and soon you will be lost.

It is now high noon for you to wake up from sleep and take a major decision. Come and repent of your sins and give your life to Me. I will guide you and give you the grace and strength you need to say "no" to the temptations of the evil one.

If you return to Me, I will come and live in your heart and give you the peace you need to live a purpose-filled life with Me. Do not delay but make your surrender to Me today. I am waiting for you to come to Me and begin this friendship, which I desire intensely with you. I will help you to give purpose to your life and joy in living these days of your new life with Me."

"Use your gifts for the glory of God"
Sunday, February 08, 2009

Dear Friends,

Jesus said, "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name? Did we not drive out demons in your name?' ... Then I will declare to them solemnly, 'I never knew you. Depart from me, you evildoers.'" Matthew 7:21-23

Here is another message from Our Lord and Friend addressed to Joseph. Jesus spoke to him in these words, "Who is a true disciple of mine? One who says 'Lord, Lord' is not necessarily a true disciple or the one who prophesies in my Name truly a person who loves Me. I have to see your actions and see if they are good.

Do you follow the commandments of My Father in heaven? Do you go to church regularly and receive Me in Holy Communion with a clean heart? Do you forgive all those who hurt you and do not carry a grudge against them? Do you love all the people, even your enemies? Are you ready to help the poor who are in need? You know that I have identified Myself with every poor person. So all you do for the poor, you do it to Me.

What is most important for a true disciple of mine is to do the will of My Father in heaven. The Father has created you out of love and given you all you need as a human being. Are you thankful to Him for all He did for you?

You show your gratefulness by good actions and avoiding every evil. You love to come to Him in prayer every day and to pray with the heart. Give your whole life to Him and to Me and be our friend.

When I was on earth, I taught all you had to know to be My true disciple. Read the Bible and there you will find My words addressed to you. Be a loyal member of My Church by doing all the church tells you. What the church teaches you especially through the Pope of Rome is accepted in heaven. He is the one who speaks in My Name. Love My Church and be an active member who is always ready to help in any way. Use all your gifts for the glory of God and be humble. Then you will be ready for the Kingdom of God."

Medjugorje Day By Day Feb 09 - The Rosary in Your Hands
Thanksgiving!

Jesus then took the loaves, and when He had given thanks, He distributed them to those who were seated; so also the fish, as much as they wanted. John 6:11
"Eucharist" means "thanksgiving." It is startling, in our age of hedonism, to think of a ritual commemoration of a brutal death on a cross as an occasion of thanksgiving. Yet we do so because the Victim of that death insisted on it.

For Jesus, even His death, horrible as it was, was to be an occasion of celebration because of the joy it would ultimately given birth to in the resurrection. And so the One who was about to offer His body on the Cross gave thanks for bread and declared "This is My body." Today, give thanks!

"Give me, good Lord, a longing to be with Thee ... give me warmth, delight and quickness in thinking upon Thee. And give me Thy grace to long for Thine holy Sacraments, and specially to rejoice in the presence of Thy very blessed Body, Sweet Saviour Christ, in the Holy Sacrament of the altar." (St. Thomas More)

Mother Teresa -
It takes humility to recognize the greatness of God shining through us. Boasting of our greatness before men is pride. Great humility arises when we recognize that it is God's kindness and His greatness that shows through our hands, our work, and our love because that is the simple truth.
Jesus is the Truth that must be shared.

Meditations by Padre Pio -
When you find yourself close to God in prayer, speak to Him if you can, and if you unable to do so stay this way. Let yourself be seen, and do not disturb yourself further.

Archbishop Fulton Sheen -
Pilgrimage toward the Ecstasy of Love
"Too many husbands and wives expect their partners in marriage to give what only God can give: eternal ecstasy. Yet if any man or woman could do that, he would be God. We are right to want the ecstasy of love; but if we expect to enjoy it through the flesh, which is merely on pilgrimage to God, we prepare ourselves for disappointment.

The first ecstasy of love is not an illusion; but it is only a kind of travel folder, a foretaste, a preview, urging body and soul to start the journey towards eternal joys. If the first ecstasy passes, this change is not an invitation to love another person, but to love in another way - and the other way is Christ's way, the way of Him Who said: `I am the Way.'"

St. Faustina's diary

True love is measured by the thermometer of suffering. Jesus, I thank You for the little daily crosses, for opposition to my endeavors, for the hardships of communal life, for the misinterpretation of my intentions, for humiliations at the hands of others, for the harsh way in which we are treated, for false suspicions, for poor health and loss of strength, for self-denial, for dying to myself, for lack of recognition in everything, for the upsetting of all my plans.

Thank You, Jesus, for interior sufferings, for dryness of spirit, for terrors, fears and incertitude's, for the darkness and the deep interior night, for temptations and various ordeals, for torments too difficult to describe, especially for those which no one will understand, for the hour of death with its fierce struggle and all its bitterness.

I thank You, Jesus, You who first drank the cup of bitterness before You gave it to me, in a much milder form. I put my lips to this cup of Your holy will. Let all be done according to Your good pleasure; let that which Your wisdom ordained before the ages be done to me. I want to drink the cup to its last drop, and not seek to know the reason why. In bitterness is my joy, in hopelessness is my trust.

In You, O Lord, all is good, all is a gift of Your paternal Heart. I do not prefer consolations over bitterness or bitterness over consolations, but thank You, O Jesus, for everything! It is my delight to fix my gaze upon You, O incomprehensible God!...

O Uncreated Beauty, whoever comes to know You once cannot love anything else. I can feel the bottomless abyss of my soul, and nothing will fill it but God himself. I feel that I am drowned in Him like a single grain of sand in a bottomless ocean. (343)

MEDJUGORJE DAY BY DAY

These thoughts for a day are taken from a daily meditation book based on the Messages of Our Lady of Medjugorje by Father Richard J. Beyer, Ave Maria Press.

FEB 9 - THE ROSARY IN YOUR HANDS

Today the Mother of God speaks of love and the rosary:
May the love of God always be within you, for without it you cannot be fully converted. Let the rosary in your hands make you think of Jesus (Locutionist Jelena & Mirjana June 1, 1984).

After Christ's resurrection, his Mother and the apostles often met in prayer in the legendary upper room :

When they had entered the city, they went to the room upstairs where they were staying…All these were constantly devoting themselves to prayer, together with certain women, including Mary the mother of Jesus, as well as his brothers (Acts 1 :13-14).

Reflection:

Not surprisingly, sacred scripture places the same emphasis on prayer as Our Lady does in her messages at Medjugorje.

Her message today to, "Let the rosary in your hands make you think of Jesus," calls to mind the special "Rosary of Jesus" that she asked Jelena and her prayer group to offer. Dictated to her by the Virgin, each of the seven mysteries has the following format :
1) Announcement of the mystery; 2) Announcement of the prayer intention; 3) Quiet reflection on the mystery and then a spontaneous prayer from the heart; 4) Five Our Fathers; 5) and last, the phrase : "O Jesus, be our strength and protection." The following are the mysteries and prayer intentions :

FIRST MYSTERY :

The birth of Christ .

Prayer intention : for peace in the world

SECOND MYSTERY :

The compassion and love Jesus for the poor and afflicted

Prayer intention : For the Holy Father and the bishops

THIRD MYSTERY :

The trust of Jesus for his Father and the performance of his will

Prayer intention : For priests, religious, and all who are consecrated to God in a special way

FOURTH MYSTERY :

Jesus willingly came to earth, suffered and died, because of his great love for us.

Prayer intention : For families, parents, and their children.

FIFTH MYSTERY :

Jesus gave his life as a sacrifice for us

Prayer intention : That we too will be capable of offering our lives for others

SIXTH MYSTERY :

The resurrection of Jesus his victory over Satan and death

Prayer intention : For the elimination of all sin in our lives so that Jesus may relive in our hearts.

SEVENTH MYSTERY :

The Ascension of Jesus to heaven

Prayer intention : For the triumph of God's will, and that we may always be open to his will in our own lives

CONCLUSION :

Jesus sends forth the Holy Spirit

Prayer intention : That the Spirit may descend upon us

Seven Glory Bes

Verse or refrain from a suitable hymn.

Application :

Pray the "Rosary of Jesus" for the next several days to familiarize yourself with it.

HOW BLESSED YOU ARE TO KNOW THAT IT IS GOD WHO CAN SAVE YOU AND ONLY GOD. MERE MAN CAN DO NOTHING. DO NOT BE CAUGHT UP WITH THE LACK OF UNDERSTANDING THAT MAN HAS ABOUT THE POWER OF GOD.

BE ALERT DEAR CHILDREN. GOD IS WORKING FOR YOU IN THIS GODLESS NATION, YOU CARRY THE TRUTH - YOU HAVE FAITH.

I GIVE TODAY MY MATERNAL BLESSING - MAY MY BELOVED PRIEST - SON GIVE TO YOU THE BLESSING OF CHRIST.

MAY YOU ALL OFFER PRAISE AND THANKS TO THE ALMIGHTY GOD AND MAY YOU DO THIS NOW AND FOREVER.

Vision to littlest of servants February 8, 2009

While driving to Mass this morning suddenly I saw the headlines of a newspaper and it read that the greatest natural disaster to hit the United States had occurred.

I then saw another newspaper and it read that a great wave had washed over Florida and millions were feared dead.

JESUS then spoke and told me that the sins of Florida were calling for HIS JUSTICE. That HE did not desire this but HIS JUSTICE demanded it.

Pray hard for the people of Florida.

Medjugorje Day By Day Feb 08 - HELP PEACE TO REIGN

Hard Sayings!

Many of His disciples, when they heard it, said, "This is a hard saying; who can listen to it?" John 6:60

The Eucharist is one of the greatest offences to the world. When Jesus told His hearers that they must eat His flesh and drink His blood, the response was immediate: they left. Jesus was left with a small group of dazed followers who couldn't imagine what He was talking about.

It's often the same today. The Gospel proposes all sorts of hard sayings to us and then says, as Jesus did, "Are you going to leave Me too?" It really does ask us to render a judgment, to make a choice. The Gospel does this, not to push our buttons or play with our heads, but because the Gospel really does claim to be a statement about the nature of reality - about what is, not what we would necessarily like.

Jesus taught that we must eat His flesh and drink His blood, not because He knew that would really irk people and He enjoyed that, but because we do in fact need the remedy of the Eucharist and we do in fact have to share in Christ's Risen Life if we are to have life in us.

Today, thank Jesus for speaking the hard truth even when it cost Him friends. Because of His courage, we have life!

Meditations by Padre Pio
God can reject everything in a creature conceived in sin and which bears the
indelible impression inherited from Adam. But He absolutely cannot reject the sincere desire to love Him.

Mother Teresa -
All glory and honor are His.
We must let Jesus use us as He sees fit.

Meditations by Padre Pio -
This manner of staying in the presence of God simply to protest, with one's will, that we ourselves are His servants, is most holy and most excellent, most pure and extremely perfect

Archbishop Fulton Sheen -
Healing takes a good doctor!
"The vocation of a doctor may have been very much underrated. His ideal is not just to cure a patient of neuralgia or phobias, but also to be at one and the same time an educator, a politician, a man of God, a philosopher and a theologian, not in the sense that he takes over completely any of these functions, but rather that he recognizes that every sick person in the world has, to some extent, a combination of three disorders: physical, psychic and spiritual."

MEDJUGORJE DAY BY DAY

These thoughts for a day are taken from a daily meditation book based on the Messages of Our Lady of Medjugorje by Father Richard J. Beyer, Ave Maria Press.

Feb 8 - HELP PEACE TO REIGN

The Mother of God speaks of peace today :
Dear children, today I call you to pray especially for
peace. Dear children, without peace you cannot truly experience the birth of Jesus in your daily lives.

Therefore, pray to the Lord of Peace that he will protect you with his mantle, and that he may help you understand how important it is to have a great peace in your hearts. Having this, you will be able to spread the peace of your hearts throughout the world. I am always with you and intercede to God for you.
Pray, for Satan wants to destroy my plans for peace. Be reconciled with each other and , by your lives, help peace to reign over the entire earth (Monthly Message December 25, 1990).

Isaiah prophesies of peace in this well-known passage :

He shall judge between the nations, and shall arbitrate for many peoples; they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.
Isaiah 2 :4

Reflection :

One of the key messages of Medjugorje is that peace begins in the individual heart, and then spreads to the family, the workplace, the local community, and then to the world. Years before Medjugorje apparitions, Pope Paul VI spoke of peace in words that could easily have come from Our Lady :

Peace demands a mentality and a spirit which, before turning to others, must first permeate him who wishes to bring peace. Peace is first and foremost personal before it is social. And it is precisely this spirit of peace which it is the duty of every true follower of Christ to cultivate.

The fall of the Berlin Wall, the liberation of Eastern
Europe, the demise of Communism in Russia all were miracles of peace wrought by the Mother of God and her children which began with peace in a few individual hearts.

Application :

Today, pray simply for peace of mind, heart, and soul.

SHORT POWERFUL PRAYER THROUGH ST. JOSEPH

"Glorious St. Joseph, tenderhearted father, faithful
guardian of Jesus, chaste spouse of the Mother of
God, I ask you to join me in praising God the Father
through His Divine Son who died on the cross and
rose again to give us sinners new life. Through the
Holy Name of Jesus, pray with me that we may obtain
from the eternal Father the favor we ask. (here
state your intention)."

Say this prayer for nine consecutive days.

Fear not! God is your shelter (the 23rd Psalm and the Lord’s Prayer. God never fails. Don’t fail him. Call on Jesus. Jesus on the mainline, tell him what you want!
