Fr Doucette - Tue, Jan 20, 2009: "Make a great effort"

FATHER MELVIN DOUCETTE

"Make a great effort"

Tuesday, January 20, 2009

Dear Friends,

Jesus said, You have heard that it was said to your ancestors, ?You shall not kill; and whoever kills will be liable to judgment. But I say to you, whoever is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment, and whoever says to his brother, Raqa, will be answerable to the Sanhedrin, and whoever says,

You fool, will be liable to fiery Gehenna. Therefore, if you bring your gift to the altar and there recall that your brother has anything against you, leave your gift there at the altar, go first and be reconciled with your brother, and then come and offer your gift. Settle with your opponent quickly while on the way to court with him.

Otherwise your opponent will hand you over to the judge, and the judge will hand you over to the guard, and you will be thrown into prison. Amen, I say to you, you will not be released until you have paid the last penny. Matthew 5:21 26

Here is another message from Our Lord addressed to Joseph. Jesus spoke to him in these words, ?Pride is the source of all evil. If people were humble, they would not get angry and shout and curse as they do. It is necessary for everyone to put a curb on his or her anger.

Do not get angry with your brother or sister. It is better to say nothing instead of insulting a person. There are families that are divided for years because of one member who got angry and told all kinds of hurtful words.

The division can be between father and son or between mother and daughter. Such division causes great suffering within the family. The reason is often anger.

If you have a brother or sister who has something against you, go and visit him or her and be reconciled with that person. It is difficult to pray or to receive any gifts from Me if you continue in your division. Go and apologize for what you have said or done against this person and tell him or her that you are sorry for what you have done. Then I will wash your heart clean and peace will return to you.

Do not let this affair drag on for months and years. I gave you my commandment: love one another as I have loved you. Make a great effort with My grace to follow this law and you will be filled with joy. You will be My friend and you will advance every day.

Medjugorje Day By Day Jan 21 - DO NOT WORRY ABOUT MATERIAL THINGS

The Holy Eucharist "is God among us. It is the Lord Jesus present in the tabernacles of our churches with His Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. It is Jesus veiled under the appearance of bread, but really and physically present in the consecrated Host, so that He dwells in our midst, works within us and for us, and is at our disposal.

The Eucharistic Jesus is the true Emmanuel, the 'God with us'" (Matt 1:23). (Fr. Stephano Manelli, O.F.M.).

Mother Teresa -
The Gospels remind us that Jesus, before he taught the people, felt compassion for the multitudes that followed after him. Sometimes he felt it even to the point of forgetting to eat.

How did he put his compassion into practice?
He multiplied the loaves of bread and the fish to satisfy their hunger. Only then did he tell them the good news.

Meditations by Padre Pio - Detach yourself from the world. Listen to me. One person drowns on the high seas, another chokes on a glass of water. What difference is there between these two; are they not both dead?

Archbishop Fulton Sheen -
Positive spin can turn evil dizzy

"How our outlook on the world would change if the makers of public opinion, instead of seeing the dark side of the evil alone, would see the bright side of the good; if they would single out politicians, business men, labor leaders, parents and others who mirror forth great virtues and moral integrity, then the evil of the world would be more quickly overcome."

St. Faustina's diary http://www.marian.org/directory_flash.html -
The mercy of the Lord I will sing forever,

Before all the people will I sing it,

For it is God's greatest attribute

And for us an unending miracle.

You gush forth from the Divine Trinity,

But from one single womb filled with love.

The mercy of the Lord will be revealed in the soul

In all its fullness, when the veil falls.

From the fountain of Your mercy, O Lord,

Flows all happiness and life,

And thus, all creatures and the whole of creation

Sing out in ecstasy a song of mercy.

The bowels of God's mercy are opened for us

Through the life of Jesus, stretched on the Cross.

O sinner, you must not doubt or despair,

But trust in mercy, for you also can become holy.

Two streams in the form of rays

Have gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus,

Not for Angels, nor Cherubim, nor Seraphim,

But for the salvation of sinful man. (522)

MEDJUGORJE DAY BY DAY

These thoughts for a day are taken from a daily meditation book based on the Messages of Our Lady of Medjugorje by Father Richard J. Beyer, Ave Maria Press.

Jan 21 - DO NOT WORRY ABOUT MATERIAL THINGS

Today Our Lady speaks of one of the pitfalls of modern life:

"Dear Children, you are so preoccupied with material things that you lose everything that God wants to give you. Pray then, dear children, for the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

They are necessary so that you can give witness to my presence here, and to all that I give you. Dear children, abandon yourselves to me so that I can guide you always. Do not worry about material things. (Weekly Message April 17th , 1986)

Jesus, too, called attention to the danger of material goods which can distort our sense of priorities:

He replied, "I have kept all these since my youth." When Jesus heard this, he said to him, "There is still one thing lacking.

Sell all that you own and distribute the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me." But when he said this, he became sad; for he was very rich. (LK 18:21-23)
Reflection:

Satan provides us with an array of addictions and diversions that promise security, but simply divert us from God's kingdom. Material things are not necessarily evil in themselves, but when our lives are centered around them, they work to destroy the soul.

The mystical pet Angelus Silesius wrote, "Be sure, as long as worldly fancies your pursue, you are a hollow man--a pauper lives in you." A pauper, rather than God.

Today Jesus and his Mother warn us of worldly addictions, and Our Lady gives us the remedy in the message: "Pray for the gifts of the Holy Spirit...abandon yourselves to me so that I can guide you always."

Application:

Walk through your house today noting your possessions. Is there anything there you cannot live without? In prayer, offer all these things to the Blessed Mother.

Medjugorje Day By Day Jan 20 - REMAIN STEADFAST
"O Everlasting Love, Jesus, who have enclosed Yourself in the Host, and
therein hide Your divinity and conceal Your beauty, You do this in order to give Yourself, whole and entire, to my soul" (St. Maria Faustina of the Blessed Sacrament).

Mother Teresa -
Faith is a gift from God.
When God comes to you or you go to God, then you will have the chance to accept Him or reject Him. Accepting Him is the gift of faith.

Meditations by Padre Pio - Only a general knows how and when to use one of his soldiers. Wait, your turn will come.

Archbishop Fulton Sheen -
Goodness never needs to be explained

"Goodness needs but little explanation, for good is self-propagating and self-explanatory; it is the evil, darkness, and suffering which need explanation."

St. Faustina's diary http://www.marian.org/directory_flash.html -
The words with which I entreated God are these: Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ for our sins and those of the whole world; for the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us. (475)

The next morning, when I entered chapel, I heard these words interiorly: Every time you enter the chapel, immediately recite the prayer which I taught you yesterday. When I had said the prayer, in my soul I heard these words: This prayer will serve to appease My wrath.

You will recite it for nine days, on the beads of the rosary, in the following manner: First of all, you will say one OUR FATHER and HAIL MARY and the I BELIEVE IN GOD. Then on the OUR FATHER beads you will say the following words: "Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world."

On the HAIL MARY beads you will say the following words: "For the sake of His sorrowful Passion have mercy on us and on the whole world." In conclusion, three times you will recite these words: "Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world." (476)

MEDJUGORJE DAY BY DAY

These thoughts for a day are taken from a daily meditation book based on the Messages of Our Lady of Medjugorje by Father Richard J. Beyer, Ave Maria

Press.
Jan 20 - REMAIN STEADFAST

Today the visionaries are asked to motivate people to prayer and conversion:

I know that many will not believe you, and that many who have an impassioned faith will grow cold. But you must remain steadfast and motivate people to pray, to do penance, and to convert. In this way you will be happier in the end (First Year 1983).

In Luke's gospel, John the Baptist also urges the people to put their faith into action:

And the crowds asked him, "What then should we do?" In reply he said to them, "Whoever has two coats must share with anyone who has none; and whoever has food must do likewise" (Lk 3:10-11).

Reflection:

Faith is never a strictly private affair. As we see from our readings, it is meant to affect others, to draw them to faith, prayer, and works of love. In this vein, an anonymous poet once wrote:

Faith is not merely praying

Upon our knees at night;

Faith is not merely straying

Through darkness into light;

Faith is not merely waiting

For glory that may be.

Faith is the brave endeavor,
The splendid enterprise,

The strength to serve, whatever

Conditions may arise.

Application:

Today, reflect on whether your faith touches the lives of others

SHORT POWERFUL PRAYER THROUGH ST. JOSEPH

"Glorious St. Joseph, tenderhearted father, faithful
guardian of Jesus, chaste spouse of the Mother of
God, I ask you to join me in praising God the Father
through His Divine Son who died on the cross and
rose again to give us sinners new life. Through the
Holy Name of Jesus, pray with me that we may obtain
from the eternal Father the favor we ask. (here
state your intention)."

Say this prayer for nine consecutive days.

Fear not! God is your shelter (the 23rd Psalm and the Lord’s Prayer. God never fails. Don’t fail him. Call on Jesus. Jesus on the mainline, tell him what you want!
