Prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary Protectress of Africa

Holy Mary, Mother of God, Protectress of Africa, you have given to the world the true Light, Jesus Christ. Through your obedience to the Father and the grace of the Holy Spirit, you have given us the source of our reconciliation and our justice, Jesus Christ, our peace and our joy.

Mother of Tenderness and Wisdom, show us Jesus, your Son and the Son of God. Guide our path of conversion, so that Jesus might shine his glory on us in every aspect of our personal, familial and social lives.

Mother, full of Mercy and Justice, through your docility to the Spirit, the Counselor, obtain for us the grace to be witnesses of the Risen Lord, so that we will increasingly become the salt of the earth and the light of the world.

Mother of Perpetual Help, we entrust to your maternal intercession the preparation and fruits of the Second Special Assembly for Africa. Queen of Peace, pray for us! Our Lady of Africa, pray for us!

"Pray for the missions"

Dear Friends,

Mission of Barnabas and Saul

After Barnabas and Saul completed their relief mission, they returned to Jerusalem, taking with them John, who is called Mark. Now there were in the church at Antioch prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Symeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen who was a close friend of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them."

Then, completing their fasting and prayer, they laid hands on them and sent them off. So they, sent forth by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia and from there sailed to Cyprus. When they arrived in Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the Jewish synagogues. They had John also as their assistant. Acts 12:25, 13:1-5

Here is a message from Our Lord and Savior addressed to Joseph. Jesus spoke to him in these words,

"In the early church, I called many religious men to be missionaries to go out into the known world and to proclaim the Gospel. Some of the first ones I called were Barnabas and Saul who was later called Paul. They traveled as far as Rome to teach the people and those who believed entered My Church. They were sent forth with the power of the Holy Spirit.

You, too, Joseph Melvin, I chose you to be a missionary. You were sent to Africa to work with many others for the conversion of the people there and to set up the Church. Africa has become the bright spot of the Church as it is growing in great numbers there every year. It is important that the Church continues the great work that I have given it to bring the whole of humanity to Me and to My Church.

My friends pray for the missions and the missionaries that are laboring in the world today. Like Barnabas and Paul, they have their cross to carry. Their work, however, is of great importance.

"Be a great witness"

Dear Friends,

Herod's Persecution of the Christians

About that time King Herod laid hands upon some members of the church to harm them. He had James, the brother of John, killed by the sword, and when he saw that this was pleasing to the Jews he proceeded to arrest Peter also.

It was the feast of Unleavened Bread. He had him taken into custody and put in prison under the guard of four squads of four soldiers each. He intended to bring him before the people after Passover. Peter thus was being kept in prison, but prayer by the church was fervently being made to God on his behalf. Acts 12:1-5

Here is the message of Our Lord and Savior given to Joseph. Jesus spoke to him in these words,

"The early Church suffered very much at the hands of King Herod who lived in Jerusalem and at the hands of the other leaders of the Jewish nation. The first Apostle to die was Saint James who was killed by the sword. Then they arrested Peter whom I had appointed the Head of My Church. He was thrown into prison and he would be brought out before the people at a future date.

It is a fact that the members of My Church have suffered greatly during the whole of the history of the Church. Even today in many countries many are killed, thrown into prison and tortured. I had told the Apostles that they too would suffer as I had suffered. All this suffering is caused by the evil one who is furious at what I am doing as the leader of the Church.

Millions join the church every year and come to believe in Me and others are converted and taken out of the grip of the evil one. I call you all to remain strong against the devil and never allow him to overcome you. Whenever you are attacked, call upon Me and I will defend you and send the evil one away. In this way you will be a great witness of all that I am doing to help you."

"Pray with great confidence"
Dear Friends,

Peter goes to visit the Christians

Peter went to the house of Mary, the mother of John who is called Mark, where there were many people gathered in prayer. When he knocked on the gateway door, a maid Rhoda came to answer it. She was so overjoyed when she recognized Peter's voice that, instead of opening the gate, she ran in and announced that Peter was standing at the gate.

They told her, "You are out of your mind," but she insisted that it was so. But they kept saying, "It is his angel." But Peter continued to knock, and when they opened it, they saw him and were astounded. He motioned to them with his hand to be quiet and explained to them how the Lord had led him out of the prison, and said, "Report this to James and the brothers."

Then he left and went to another place. At daybreak there was no small commotion among the soldiers over what had become of Peter. Herod, after instituting a search but no finding him, ordered the guards tried and executed. Then he left Judea to spend some time in Caesarea. Acts 12:12-19

Here is a message from Our Lord addressed to Joseph. Jesus spoke to him these words,

"As we continue to follow Peter who was arrested by Herod but freed from prison by an angel sent by Me, we find him arriving at the home of a Christian. They are astonished to see him at the gate and let him in. That very evening he went to sleep somewhere else and then made his way out of Jerusalem.

The Christians were so happy to see him freed from prison and their prayers contributed to his release. It is very important to pray for those who are in difficulty that they may receive the graces they need. I have told you and it is written, 'Ask and you shall receive.' When you call through prayer, I am there ready to help you. Ask with a heart full of faith and love knowing that I hear every prayer

. I gave you the 'Our Father,' this great prayer addressed to the Father. Pray this prayer often for it gives great joy to your heavenly Father. The Father will give you all you need and He will forgive you your sins if you repent and forgive those who hurt you. Pray with great confidence in your heart."
Father Melvin

"Become His friend"
Dear Friends,

The Woman and the Dragon
A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. She was with child and wailed aloud in pain as she labored to give birth.

Then another sign appeared in the sky: it was a huge red dragon with seven heads and ten horns, and on its heads were seven diadems. Its tail swept away a third of the stars in the sky and hurled them down to the earth.

Then the dragon stood before the woman about to give birth, to devour her child when she gave birth. She gave birth to a son, a male child, destined to rule all the nations with an iron rod. Her child was caught up to God and his throne. The woman herself fled into the desert where she had a place prepared by God, that there she might be taken care of for twelve hundred and sixty days. Revelation 12:1-6

Following is the message of Our Blessed Mother addressed to Joseph. Our Lady spoke to him in these words,

Joseph, My son, I bless you. I am the woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under My feet and a crown of twelve stars on My head. I gave birth to Jesus, the Savior of the world. Satan wanted to have him but he did not manage to get Him. He is now the ruler of all nations.

Jesus is your Lord and Savior who has all power to bring you out of the grip of Satan into the Kingdom of God. He defeated Satan by His suffering and death on the cross and by His resurrection. I am standing by Him as His Mother and your Mother. I do not want any person lost to the devil but that all come to believe in My Son Jesus and to follow Him every day.

Jesus rules with an iron rod, which means that He has the power to judge all the people who live on the earth. Become His friend by coming to Him every day and spending time with Him in contemplative prayer. Through this prayer you will receive all the graces you need to follow Your Savior and to avoid sin. You will come to love Him and desire to be with Him at all times. If you are His friend, you will be saved and He will bring you to heaven to live with Him forever.

Father Melvin

While in Church this morning PRAYING before the BLESSED SACRAMENT I received the following from OUR LADY.

I saw a huge dam, the size of the Hoover dam or larger, with OUR LADY standing at the bottom in front of the dam and I was standing next to HER. We looked very small in comparison to the dam, it was huge!!!

Behind OUR LADY stood thousands of people with ROSARIES in their hands and I knew that they were PRAYING FOR MERCY FOR THE WHOLE WORLD.

I then saw OUR LADY again and SHE was offering the PRAYERS to HER SON to hold back the JUSTICE OF THE FATHER.

I was then given the understanding that the dam represented the FATHER'S JUSTICE.

I then saw cracks in the dam and these cracks started to become huge and I saw the dam completely collapse.

I then saw a huge wave of water come forth and to each side, standing untouched by the water, were the people who had been PRAYING and OUR LADY standing to right, next to them.

I was given the understanding that the JUSTICE OF THE FATHER would not touch them (spiritually speaking because the destination of OUR SOULS is MOST IMPORTANT).

OUR LADY then spoke and told me that there was not enough PRAYERS being said and so the JUSTICE OF THE FATHER WAS GOING TO BE UNLEASHED.

That the SINS OF THE WORLD WERE SO NUMEROUS AND GREAT THAT THEY DEMANDED THE FATHER'S JUSTICE.

That HER call to PRAY, PRAY, PRAY had for the most part been ignored and now the time has come for the CLEANSING OF THE WORLD TO BEGIN.

That we are continue to PRAY, to TRUST IN HER SON, know that the world will soon UNDERGO GREAT CHANGE.

I then saw OUR LADY OF FATIMA standing beside my pew.
Medjugorje Day By Day July 13 - DO NOT WORRY ABOUT MATERIAL THINGS

"Behold the source of every good, Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament, who says, If any man thirst, let him come to Me. Oh, what torrents of grace have the saints drawn from the fountain of the Most Blessed Sacrament! for there Jesus dispenses all the merits of his Passion, as it was foretold by the Prophet: You shall draw waters with joy out of the Saviour's fountains" (St. Alphonsus Liguori).

I spoke also with the Holy Father. I talked to him about the community and the vocations connected with the experience of Medjugorje. The Holy Father listened to me, drew close to me and right in my ear said to me, reminding me not to forget: "Don't you be concerned about Medjugorje, because I'm thinking about Medjugorje and I pray for it's success every day"

Mother Teresa -
Such a simple little teaching, but it is so important.

Meditations by Padre Pio -
Remember Jess, meek and humble of heart. Fear and don't sin is of the saints. I have never regretted being gentle, but I have had qualms of conscience and had to confess when I was a bit severe. But when I say gentleness I do not mean permissiveness. That no! I mean the gentleness that makes discipline pleasant and which should never be neglected (GB 34).

Archbishop Fulton Sheen -
Deification of self leads to hatred of God

"Nothing so blocks happiness and peace in the soul as a pampered ego. So much of what men call atheism is not so much the negation of God as the deification of ego. Every atheist believes in God, but the god is himself.

Being surrounded with so many limitations, frustrations and weaknesses, he develops more and more a hatred for the God Who is the Shepherd seeking lost sheep among the brambles."

St. Faustina's diary http://www.marian.org/directory_flash.html -
Today, I went to meditate before the Blessed Sacrament [in the sanatorium chapel]. When I approached the altar, God's presence pervaded my soul, I was plunged into the ocean of His divinity, and Jesus said to me,

My daughter, all that exists is yours. I answered the Lord, "My heart wants nothing but You alone, O Treasure of my heart. For all the gifts You give me, thank you, O Lord, but I desire only Your Heart.

Though the heavens are immense, they are nothing to me without You. You know very well, O Jesus, that I am constantly swooning because of my longing for You." Know this, My daughter, that you are already tasting now what other souls will obtain only in eternity. (969)

And all of a sudden, my soul was flooded with the light of the knowledge of God. Oh, would that I could express even a little of what my soul experiences when resting near the Heart of the incomprehensible Majesty! I cannot put it into words. Only a soul who has experienced such a grace at least once in is life, will recognize it.

When I returned to my room, it seemed to me that I was coming from real life to death. When the doctor came to take my pulse, he was surprised: "Sister, what happened? You have never had a pulse like this! I would like to know what has speeded it up so much." What could I tell him, when I myself did not know that my pulse was so rapid. I only know that I am dying of yearning for God, but this I did not tell him, for how can medicine help in this instance? (970)

MEDJUGORJE DAY BY DAY

July 13 - DO NOT WORRY ABOUT MATERIAL THINGS

From Our Lady's weekly message of April 17,1986:

Dear Children, you are so preoccupied with material things that you lose everything

God wants to give you. Pray, then, dear children, for the gifts of the Holy Spirit. They are necessary so that you can give witness to my presence here, and to all that I give you. Dear children, abandon yourselves to me so that I can guide you completely. Do not worry so much about material things (WM 4-17-86).

Jesus also asks us not to worry about the material:

Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you—you of little faith!

And do not keep striving for what you are to eat and what you are to drink, and do not keep worrying. For it is the nations of the world that strive after all these things, and your Father knows that you need them. Instead, strive for his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well (Lk 12:27-31).

Reflection:

The psychiatrist Erich Fromm once wrote, "In the sphere of material things, giving means being rich. Not he who has much is rich, but he who gives much." Material possessions have great significance in our world.

Not only do we strive to own a special car, an expensive watch, and far more clothes than we need, but we also think in terms of possessing our spouse, or our health, or happiness, or things that cannot be owned. Some of us have become addicted to buying and owning things. Rather than enriching us, this possessive mentality impoverishes us.

Tangible things enrich us only when we use and share them to improve our lives and the lives of others. Wise people have known for thousands of years that an individual's spirituality is deeply affected by his relationship to his possessions. When we respect what we own as a gift from God and share it with others, we open the door to a much deeper spirituality.

Application:

Today, pray that you will hold your possessions loosely and with respect, so they can be used well and shared.

SHORT POWERFUL PRAYER THROUGH ST. JOSEPH

"Glorious St. Joseph, tenderhearted father, faithful
guardian of Jesus, chaste spouse of the Mother of
God, I ask you to join me in praising God the Father
through His Divine Son who died on the cross and
rose again to give us sinners new life. Through the
Holy Name of Jesus, pray with me that we may obtain
from the eternal Father the favor we ask. (here
state your intention)."

Say this prayer for nine consecutive days.

Fear not! God is your shelter (the 23rd Psalm and the Lord’s Prayer. God never fails). Don’t fail him. Call on Jesus. Jesus on the mainline, tell him what you want!
