Prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary Protectress of Africa

Holy Mary, Mother of God, Protectress of Africa, you have given to the world the true Light, Jesus Christ. Through your obedience to the Father and the grace of the Holy Spirit, you have given us the source of our reconciliation and our justice, Jesus Christ, our peace and our joy.

Mother of Tenderness and Wisdom, show us Jesus, your Son and the Son of God. Guide our path of conversion, so that Jesus might shine his glory on us in every aspect of our personal, familial and social lives.

Mother, full of Mercy and Justice, through your docility to the Spirit, the Counselor, obtain for us the grace to be witnesses of the Risen Lord, so that we will increasingly become the salt of the earth and the light of the world.

Mother of Perpetual Help, we entrust to your maternal intercession the preparation and fruits of the Second Special Assembly for Africa. Queen of Peace, pray for us! Our Lady of Africa, pray for us!

AFROCENTRIC JOYFUL MYSTERIES ROSARY, CHAPLET DIVINE MERCY, DIVINE OFFICE

Medjugorje Day By Day June 28 - FAST

"God is waiting for us in Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament. Let us not leave him waiting in vain! Let us not, through distraction and lethargy, pass by the greatest and most important thing life offers us . . . . Let us not pass it heedlessly by. Let us take time, in the course of the week, in passing, to go in and spend a moment with the Lord who is so near. During the day our churches should not be allowed to be dead houses, standing empty and seemingly useless. Jesus Christ's invitation is always being proffered from them.

This sacred proximity to us is always alive in them. It is always calling us and inviting us in. This is what is lovely about Catholic churches, that within them there is, as it were, always worship, because the Eucharistic presence of the Lord dwells always within them" (Pope Benedict XVI).

"In the Blessed Sacrament a heavenly school is open to me, with the best teacher one can possibly imagine, Jesus Christ himself" (Bl. Pope John XXIII).

Mother Teresa -
Cheerfulness is often a cloak which hides a life of sacrifice, continual union with God, fervor and generosity.

Meditations by Padre Pio -
I end here because the bell is calling me and urging me. I am going to the wine press of the church, to the holy altar where the sacred blood of that delicious and singular grape, with which only very few are allowed to inebriate themselves, drips continually. There - and you know I cannot do otherwise - I will present you to the Heavenly Father in union with His Son, to whom, for whom, and through whom I am totally yours in the Lord (Letters III p 593).

Archbishop Fulton Sheen -
Impressions are a reflection of behavior or image!

"People are like a mirror which reflects back on us the kind of image we cast. The kind man bears with the infirmities of others, never magnifies trifles and avoids a spirit of fault finding. He knows that the trouble with most people in the world is that they are unloved. No one cares for them either because they are ugly or nasty, or troublesome, or so-called bores. To a great extent their character is made by the resentment they feel toward others who are unkind."

St. Faustina's diary http://www.marian.org/directory_flash.html -
At that moment, I saw Jesus, who said, I am pleased with what you are doing. And you can continue to be at peace if you always do the best you can in respect to this work of mercy. Be absolutely as frank as possible with your confessor.

Satan gained nothing by tempting you, because you did not enter into conversation with him. Continue to act in this way. You gave Me great glory today by fighting so faithfully. Let it be confirmed and engraved on your heart that I am always with you, even if you don't feel My presence at the time of battle. (1499)

My health has improved somewhat. I went down to the refectory and the chapel today. I still cannot resume my duties, and so I stay in my cell at the hand-loom [making borders for altar linens]. I enjoy this work very much, but still, even with such light work, I tire easily. I see how feeble I am. There are no indifferent moments in my life, since every moment of my life is filled with prayer, suffering, and work. If not in one way, then in another, I glorify God; and if God were to give me a second life, I do not know whether I would make better use of it... (1545)

MEDJUGORJE DAY BY DAY

These thoughts for a day are taken from a daily meditation book based on the Messages of Our Lady of Medjugorje by Father Richard J. Beyer, Ave Maria Press. To order

JUNE 28 - FAST

In a special apparition to Ivan in 1984, the Blessed Mother asked him to convey the following message:

I would like the people to pray with me as much as they can during these days. Fast strictly on Wednesdays and Fridays and each day pray at least one full rosary, the Joyful, Sorrowful, and Glorious Mysteries. (Special Message 8-14-84)

In Acts we see the infant church engaged in fasting and prayer:

While they were worshipping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them." Then after fasting and praying they laid their hands on them and sent them off (Acts 13:2-3)

Reflection:

Although fasting may seem to be a difficult teaching, the rewards far outweigh its inconvenience. Our Lady wants us to be aware of its power, especially when combined with prayer. It is by prayer, of course, that we attach ourselves to God, but it is by fasting that we detach ourselves from the world. Thus fasting leads to a new freedom of mind and heart.

"Fasting," says Fr. Slavko Barbaric, "is a call to conversion directed to our body. And as we free ourselves from things outside of ourselves, we also free ourselves from the passions within us that are keeping our interior life in chains."

This new freedom allows us to embrace spiritual values through which we can experience true happiness. In this way fasting liberates us from bondage and sets us free to life the joyous life for which we were created.

Application:

On your next fast day, pray especially for freedom from the material.

Medjugorje Day By Day June 27 - MAY PRAYER BE YOUR JOY

Message of June 25, 2004

"Dear children! Also today, joy is in my heart. I desire to thank you for making my plan realizable. Each of you is important, therefore, little children, pray and rejoice with me for every heart that has converted and become an instrument of peace in the world. Prayer groups are powerful, and through them I can see, little children, that the Holy Spirit is at work in the world. Thank you for having responded to my call."

"Most sacred, most loving Heart of Jesus, You are concealed in the Holy Eucharist, and you beat for us still. Now, as then, you say: 'With desire I have desired . . .' I worship you with all my best love and awe, with fervent affection, with my most subdued, most resolved will " (Ven. John Henry Cardinal
Newman).

Mother Teresa -
It is not what we do but how much love we put into it.

Meditations by Padre Pio -
In these sad times when faith is dead and wickedness is triumphant; when we are surrounded by those who have perpetual hatred in their hearts and blasphemy on their lips, the surest way to remaining immune from the pestiferous disease which surrounds us is to strengthen ourselves with the Eucharistic food. This cannot be achieved by those who, month after month, live without satiating themselves with the Immaculate Flesh of the Divine Lamb (AdFP 463).

Archbishop Fulton Sheen -
We reap what we sow!
"If we start with the belief that most people in the world are crooks, it is amazing how many crooks we find. If, however, we go into the world with the assumption that everyone is nice, we are constantly running into nice people. To a great extent the world is what we make it. We get back what we give. If we sow hate, we reap hate; if we scatter love and gentleness we harvest love and happiness. "

St. Faustina's diary http://www.marian.org/directory_flash.html -
O my God, let everything that is in me praise You, my Lord and Creator; and with every beat of my heart I want to praise Your unfathomable mercy. I want to tell souls of Your goodness and encourage them to trust in Your mercy. That is my mission, which You yourself have entrusted to me, O Lord, in this life and in the life to come. (1325)

After Communion today, Jesus told me how much He desires to come to human hearts. I desire to unite Myself with human souls; My great delight is to unite Myself with souls. Know, My daughter, that when I come to a human heart in Holy Communion, My hands are full of all kinds of graces which I want to give to the soul. But souls do not even pay any attention to Me; they leave Me to Myself and busy themselves with other things.

Oh, how sad I am that souls do not recognize Love! They treat Me as a dead object. I answered Jesus, "O Treasure of my heart, the only object of my love and entire delight of my soul, I want to adore You in my heart as You are adored on the throne of Your eternal glory. My love wants to make up to You at least in part for the coldness of so great a number of souls. Jesus, behold my heart which is for You a dwelling place to which no one else has entry. You alone repose in it as in a beautiful garden. (1385)

MEDJUGORJE DAY BY DAY
These thoughts for a day are taken from a daily meditation book based on the Messages of Our Lady of Medjugorje by Father Richard J. Beyer, Ave Maria Press.

JUNE 27 - MAY PRAYER BE YOUR JOY

Today Our Lady speaks of joy in prayer:

Dear children, may your prayer be a joyful encounter with the Lord. But know that I cannot guide you as long as you do not experience joy in prayer. From day to day I wish to lead you more deeply into prayer, but I cannot force you. (Weekly Message 8-14-86)

Psalm 34 is a prayer of rejoicing:

I will bless the Lord at all times:

his praise shall continually be in my mouth.

My soul makes its boast in the Lord:

let the humble hear and be glad
.O magnify the Lord with me,

and let us exalt his name together. Psalm 34:1-3

Reflection:

Our Lady of Medjugorje emphasizes that it is the quality of our prayer which is most important. It is to be an intimate encounter with God, a touching of our heart to his. The story is told by the English journalist William Aitken of a certain priest who was disturbed to see a shabby old man go into his church at noon every day and come out again after a few minutes. What could he be doing? He informed the caretaker and bade him question the old man. After all, the place contained valuable furnishings.

"I go to pray," the old man said in reply to the caretaker's questioning.

"Come, come now," said the other, "you are never long enough in the church to pray."

"Well, you see," the shabby old man went on, "I cannot pray a long prayer, but every day at twelve o'clock, I just comes and says, `Jesus, it's Jim' and waits a minute and then comes away. It's just a little prayer, but I guess he hears me."

When Jim was injured some time later and taken to the hospital, he had a wonderful influence on others in the ward. Grumbling patients became cheerful and often the ward would ring with laughter.

"Well, Jim," said the sister to him one day, "the men say you are responsible for this change in the ward. They say you are always happy." "Aye, sister, that I am. I can't help being happy. You see, it's my visitor. Every day he makes me happy."

"Your visitor?" The sister was puzzled. She always noticed that Jim's chair was empty on visiting days, for he was a lonely old man, with no relations. "But when does he come?"

"Every day," Jim replied, the light in his eyes growing brighter. "Yes, every day at twelve o'clock he comes and stands at the foot of my bed. I see him and he smiles and says, "Jim, its Jesus."

Application:

Today seek to make your prayer a meeting of hearts, an encounter with love.

Medjugorje Day By Day June 26 - THE PRAYER GROUP

Message of June 25, 2006

"Dear children! With great joy in my heart I thank you for all the prayers that, in these days, you offered for my intentions. Know, little children, that you will not regret it, neither you nor your children. God will reward you with great graces and you will earn eternal life. I am near you and thank all those who, through these years, have accepted my messages, have poured them into their life and decided for holiness and peace. Thank you for having responded to my call."

Birth of St. John the Baptist—Feast, June 24
"To adore Jesus Christ in the Most Blessed Sacrament is first of all to
acknowledge him truly, really and substantially present therein by the humble
sentiment of a lively and spontaneous faith: humbly surrendering our feeble reason
to the divinity of this sublime Mystery; asking neither to see or touch, like
the unbelieving Apostle, before accepting the truth of Jesus Hostia; merely
waiting, to prostrate ourselves at His feet, for the infallible and gentle word
of the Church telling us like Saint John the Baptist: `Look, this is the Lamb
of God; look, this is he who takes away the sin of the world'" (St. Peter
Julian Eymard).

Mother Teresa -
I serve Jesus twenty-four hours a day. Whatever I do is for Him. And He gives me strength.

Meditations by Padre Pio -
Each holy Mass heard with devotion, produces marvellous effects in our souls, spiritual and material graces, that we ourselves do not know. For such purposes do not spend your money uselessly, make a sacrifice of it and come here to hear holy Mass (FSP 45).

It would be easier for the earth to exist without the sun than without the holy sacrifice of the Mass (AP).

Archbishop Fulton Sheen -
The golden rule of love!

"Since God finds us lovable because He put some of His love into us, so we can find others lovable because we put some of our love into them. But to do this implies a basic kindness which is always prepared to be pleasant with other people."

St. Faustina's diary http://www.marian.org/directory_flash.html -
Reverend Father Sopocko left this morning. When I was steeped in a prayer of thanksgiving for the great grace that I had received from God; namely, that of seeing Father, I became united in a special way with the Lord who said to me, He is a priest after My own Heart; his efforts are pleasing to Me.

You see, My daughter, that My will must be done and that which I had promised you, I shall do. Through him I spread comfort to suffering and careworn souls. Through him it pleased Me to proclaim the worship of My mercy. And through this work of mercy more souls will come close to Me than otherwise would have, even if he had kept giving absolution day and night for the rest of his life, because by so doing, he would have labored only for as long as he lived; whereas, thanks to this work of mercy, he will be laboring till the end of the world. MEDJUGORJE DAY BY DAY

These thoughts for a day are taken from a daily meditation book based on the Messages of Our Lady of Medjugorje by Father Richard J. Beyer, Ave Maria Press.

JUNE 26 - THE PRAYER GROUP

On this day after the anniversary, Our Lady said to Ivan's prayer group:

Dear children, your Mother told you yesterday (the anniversary) to renew the messages from now on. Your Mother asks, especially from the prayer group, that you live my messages in prayer from this time forward. If you want your Mother to give other and new messages, you have to first live the messages I have already given. (Visionary Prayer Group 6-26-89)

In the Acts of the Apostles, we find that Our Lady too was part of a very special prayer group:

"When they had entered the city, they went to the room upstairs where they were staying, Peter, and John and James, and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus, and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James. All these were constantly devoting themselves to prayer, together with certain women, including Mary the mother of Jesus, as well as his brothers." (Acts 1:13-14)

Reflection:

Prayer groups have played a major role in Medjugorje. At the request of Our Lady, Ivan and Marija formed a group, as did Jelena and Marijana, the locutionists. Among the prayer guidelines the Madonna gave them are the following:

Pray in deep meditation. Do not look at your watch all the time, but allow yourself to be led by the grace of God. Do not concern yourself too much with the things of this world, but entrust all that in prayer to the Heavenly Father.

If one is greatly preoccupied, he will not be able to pray well because internal serenity is lacking. God will contribute to bring a successful end to the things of here below, if one strives to work for the things of God.

Those who attend school or go to work must pray half an hour in the morning and in the evening and, if possible, participate in the Eucharist. It is necessary to extend the spirit of prayer to daily work, that is to say, to accompany work with prayer.

Application:

Consider attending a prayer group meeting in your local Catholic community in the next week or two. If there are not any, would you consider organizing a group with the help of your parish priest?

Say a thank you to God today for sending our Mother to us in Medjugorje

Pope Likens the Visitation
to a Eucharistic Procession
Vatican Jun 1, 2005 (Zenit.org).- Mary's visitation to her cousin Elizabeth was in a certain sense the first Eucharistic procession in history, says Benedict XVI.

"The Eucharist came from the Paradise of Virginity [Our Lady]" St. Albert the Great

St. Louis Marie de Montfort, Priest, Missionary (1673-1716), France—April 28
He wrote, "Do you hunger for the bread of grace and the bread of life? Draw near to her who bore the living Bread which came down from Heaven." "Place yourself humbly in the presence of God . . . . Renew your consecration [to the Blessed Virgin Mary] saying, `I belong entirely to you, dear Mother, and all that I have is yours.'"

"Thou art blessed amongst women, O Mary, and Blessed is Jesus Eucharistic, the fruit of thy womb!" St. Peter Julian Eymard

Mother Teresa

All we do - our prayer, our work, our suffering - is for Jesus. Our life has no other reason or motivation.

Meditations by Padre Pio -
When assisting at holy Mass renew your faith and meditate on the Victim who immolates Himself for you, to placate Divine Justice, and renders it propitious to you. Do not leave the altar without first shedding tears of sorrow and love for Jesus, crucified for your eternal salvation (LdP 66).

When you are well attend Mass, when you are ill and cannot assist, read the Mass (AP).

Archbishop Fulton Sheen-
A kind person is one of a kind!

"Because kindness is related to love, it follows that the kind person loves another not for the pleasure the other person gives, nor because the other person can do us a kindness in return, but because the other person is loveable in himself. The basic reason why everyone is lovable is because God made him."

St. Faustina's diary http://www.marian.org/directory_flash.html -
All for You, Jesus. I desire to adore Your mercy with every beat of my heart and, to the extent that I am able, to encourage souls to trust in that mercy, as You yourself have commanded me, O Lord. (1234)

On passing through Cracow, Rev. Father Sopocko paid me a short visit today. I had wanted to see him, and God fulfilled my desire. This priest is a great soul, entirely filled with God. My joy was very great, and I thanked God for this great grace, because it was for the greater glory of God that I wanted to see him. (1238)

My Jesus, penetrate me through and through so that I might be able to reflect You in my whole life. Divinize me so that my deeds may have supernatural value. Grant that I may have love, compassion, and mercy for every soul without exception. O my Jesus, each of Your saints reflects one of Your virtues; I desire to reflect Your compassionate heart, full of mercy; I want to glorify it. Let Your mercy, O Jesus, be impressed upon my heart and soul like a seal, and this will be my badge in this and the future life. Glorifying Your mercy is the exclusive task of my life. (1242)

MEDJUGORJE DAY BY DAY

These thoughts for a day are taken from a daily meditation book based on the Messages of Our Lady of Medjugorje by Father Richard J. Beyer, Ave Maria Press.

JUNE 25 - THE QUEEN OF PEACE

To the question, "When should the feast of the Queen of Peace be celebrated?" Mary smiled and said:

"I would prefer that it take place JUNE 25. The faithful have come for the first time on that day, on the hill." (First Years February 2, 1982).

And on this feast day in 1989 she said:

Dear children, today I call you to live the messages which I have been giving you during the past eight years. This is a time of grace and I desire that the grace of God overflow in each of you. I bless you, and I love you with a special love. (Monthly Message 6-25-89)

St. James also speaks of living our faith in a concrete way:

"What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but do not have works? Can faith save you? If a brother or sister is naked and lacks daily food, and one of you says to them, `Go in peace; keep warm and eat your fill,' and yet you do not supply their bodily needs, what is the good of that? So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead." (James 2:14-17)

Reflection:

The messages given on the feast of the Queen of Peace in previous years are beautiful confirmations of Our Lady's love. It is in her profound love for us that Mary intercedes to gain us `a time of grace,' and desires that, `the grace of God overflow in each of you.' She has gathered all graces together to enable us to live her messages, to live a Christian life that will bring us to eternal joy.

Note that the Blessed Virgin calls us today to live her messages, for simply hearing them is not enough. St. James reminds us of the same thing when he calls us to express our faith in works. Our greatest motivation to live the messages, to live our faith, is the boundless love of God and the constant encouragement of our Mother who said, `If you knew how much I loved you, you would weep for joy.'

Application:

How can you put your faith and love of God into action this week? Check your church bulletin for opportunities, or contact your parish office.

SHORT POWERFUL PRAYER THROUGH ST. JOSEPH

"Glorious St. Joseph, tenderhearted father, faithful
guardian of Jesus, chaste spouse of the Mother of
God, I ask you to join me in praising God the Father
through His Divine Son who died on the cross and
rose again to give us sinners new life. Through the
Holy Name of Jesus, pray with me that we may obtain
from the eternal Father the favor we ask. (here
state your intention)."

Say this prayer for nine consecutive days.

Fear not! God is your shelter (the 23rd Psalm and the Lord’s Prayer. God never fails). Don’t fail him. Call on Jesus. Jesus on the mainline, tell him what you want!
