Prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary Protectress of Africa

Holy Mary, Mother of God, Protectress of Africa, you have given to the world the true Light, Jesus Christ. Through your obedience to the Father and the grace of the Holy Spirit, you have given us the source of our reconciliation and our justice, Jesus Christ, our peace and our joy.

Mother of Tenderness and Wisdom, show us Jesus, your Son and the Son of God. Guide our path of conversion, so that Jesus might shine his glory on us in every aspect of our personal, familial and social lives.

Mother, full of Mercy and Justice, through your docility to the Spirit, the Counselor, obtain for us the grace to be witnesses of the Risen Lord, so that we will increasingly become the salt of the earth and the light of the world.

Mother of Perpetual Help, we entrust to your maternal intercession the preparation and fruits of the Second Special Assembly for Africa. Queen of Peace, pray for us! Our Lady of Africa, pray for us!

BLACK SAINTS OF THE DAY

Black Saints of the day—From the Black Saints reference book (James Wesly Smith), 456 pages, paperback, 1000 lines of Black and African Saints in the Latin Rite, Coptic and Orthodox branches of the Mystical Body of Christ (combined Christianity) to year 599 A.D. Order quickly from www.booklocker.com/books/3088.html, from BarnesandNobles.com, Ingram Book Group internationally, Amazon, wherever online books are sold.

Cyprian, Bishop of Carthage, My given name is Thasius Cyprianus. I was the Bishop of Carthage. I saw the sunrise of my life in Africa about the year of Our Lord, 200 A.D. in that city in Africa. All my life and work occurred there. Known as the Priest Martyr, I was the son of a rich senator. He was pagan.

I matriculated quickly in an excellent secular education. Then attended the school of Carthage. I became an orator and rhetoric and philosophy instructor. Often I appeared at court defending townsfolk.

I taught rhetoric oratory before I converted to the Christian one holy Catholic and Apostolic faith. When converting, I assiduously studied Scripture, and my mentor, Tertullians writings.

I spent my parents’ wealth, as well as the proceeds from banquets work. I continually questioned what truth was.
Christianity gained my curiosity. I studied the writings of the African, Tertullian, the Presbyter (Elder), (born around 160 A.D.).

Later, I wrote my habits made it appear impossible for me to reach the revival promised by Yeshua, Jesus, and my Savior. Cecilius the Presbyter (Elder), (my spiritual mentor), helped me from my confusion.

When I reached 46 years of age, I became a Christian catechumen.
Prior to my baptism, I gave my property to the poor. I moved to Cecilius’ house. Thus graced by God, I wrote my friend Donatus, "When the surge of regeneration cleansed my former life impurity, a light steady and bright, shone from Heaven in my heart."

I was born again, invigorated by the Holy Spirit. My doubt was removed. God revealed to me mysteries. He made darkness, light. I learned that my former living in the flesh for sin belonged to the earthly. Now I began divine living by the Holy Spirit.
"In God and from God is all our strength. From Him is our might. Through Him we who live on earth receive the hint of a condition of future bliss.”

The year following my baptism, I was ordained a priest. When Bishop Donatus of Carthage died, the faithful unanimously chose me as bishop in about the year 248 A.D.. I said, "Unconditionally, yes,” complying with my mentor's request. I was ordained bishop of Carthage.

Around the year in 248 A.D. church authorities elevated to the rank of bishop of Carthage. It was the time of the reign of terror in the persecutions of Roman Emperor Decius.

The Church’s welfare proved my first concern, along with the concomitant ridding of vices in the clergy and flock. Hopefully, my life caused the observing faithful a desire to imitate my God-given piety, humility, and wisdom with which God graced me.
I became known beyond my diocese. Bishops from other areas sought my counsel.
But persecution by the emperor Decius 249 A.D. to 251 A.D. revealed to me in a dream, forced me to hide. My life was necessary to my flock. I conducted my life to the strengthening faith and courage among my persecuted.

Prior to my leaving, I distributed the church treasury among all the clergy to help to the poor. I later sent additional funds. Through my letters (called epistles) to Presbyter (Elder)s, confessors and martyrs, I kept constant touch with Carthaginian Christians.

Some in my flock offered the Roman required sacricies to the false Roman gods. Some congregants said they did, when they did not. I was called to mediate he controversy of allowing such apostates back into the Mystical Body of Christ. Church hierarchy required they do penance before readmittance to the Church. Because I refused to sacrifice to the false gods.

Weakened by torture, some faithful souls offered sacrifice to pagan gods. Later, these lapsed Christians appealed to confessors for a letter of reconciliation. This intercession certificate accepted the lapsed back to the Church. I wrote all Carthaginian Christians a general communication regarding this important matter.

I said that those lapsed during a time of persecution might be re- admitted to the Church only after penance and with the local bishop’s permission.
But I cautioned that Bishops must investigate the situation under which the lapse happened. Examination of the lapsed proved necessary to learn their sincere contrition.
For some of the fallen wanted immediate Church re-admittance. This stirred community turmoil. I asked counsel and opinions of other diocese bishops. All approved my rules.

During my absence, I delegated authority to four priest examiners of persons preparing for ordination to the priesthood and the diaconate. But there was mischief.
Two influential persons resisted Felicissimus, and the Presbyter (Elder), Novatus. I excommunicated Felicissimus with his six accomplices.

My letter to the African Church Carthage, cautioned all not to split themselves from Church unity. I told them to wait my return. I counseled them to obey the lawful commands of the administering bishop in my absence.

Most Carthaginian Christians remained faithful. A Local Council ended Felicissimus defiance when I returned in 251 A.D.

That enclave judged the reception of the lapsed back into the Church after a church penance. It further upheld the Felicissimus’ excommunication.

A new schism (break in the Church unity) arose through the auspices of the Roman Presbyter (Elder), Novatian. Novatus, a former Felicissimus associate, and Carthaginian Presbyter (Elder), joined the movement.

Novatian taught that if Christians repented of their sin, the lapsed Christians during time of persecution could not be re-admitted.

Both Novatian and Novatus convinced three Italian bishops during the tenure of the lawful Roman bishop Celerinus to place another bishop on the Roman cathedra.
At first, I wrote a series of circular letters to the African bishops condemning these wrongs. Later, I composed an entire tome, "On the Unity of the Church.”

Just as the attenuation of discord in the Carthage church began, a plague erupted. Hundreds died in Carthage. Folks abandoned the sick with no help. The dead were left unburied. God graced me by my example, and fortitude, to personally tend the sick and bury not only Christian, but also pagan dead as well.

Drought and famine followed, and those calamities by the barbarian Numidians. These enslaved many of the residents.

We petitioned wealthy Carthaginians to develop support methods to feed the starving and ransom captives. On top of that, Emperor Valerian (253 A.D. to 259 A.D.) ordered Christian persecutions anew again.

Paternus, the Carthaginian proconsul, ordered the faithful to sacrifice to idols. I refused. I also remained silent as to the names and residences of the Presbyter (Elder)s of the Carthage Church.

I was sent to Corubisum. Deacon Pontus voluntarily followed me into exile. After arriving, I dreamed/envisioned a quick martyr's end. I wrote letters and books. But my martyrdom at Carthage caused me to return.

However, the court set me free until the next year. During that time, Carthaginian Christians bade me farewell and asked to receive my blessing.

In a later trial, I again refused to idol sacrifice to idols. The court sentenced me to beheading. "Thanks be to God!” I said.

All the Christians present said in unified voice, “We want to die with him!"
At the execution, I blessed all present. I gave 25 gold coins to the executioner. I covered my eyes. I myself had my hands bound the Presbyter (Elder), and archdeacon standing nearby, then lowered my head.

Christians crying placed their shawls and veils by me to gather my blood.
I was martyred 258 A.D. martyred in 258 A.D..

At night, the faithful took by body and buried me in the private crypt of the procurator, Macrovius Candidianus. Some 500 years later, my holy relics were transferred to France, during the reign of Charlemagne, King Charles the Great. Hieromartyr, Aug. 31

"I embrace you all"
Dear Friends,

To live and Die for Christ

Welcome anyone who is weak in faith, but not for disputes over opinions. One person believes that one may eat anything, while the weak person eats only vegetables. The one who eats must not despise the one who abstains, and the one who abstains must not pass judgment on the one who eats; for God has welcomed him.

Who are you to pass judgment on someone else's servant? Before his own master he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand. For one person considers one day more important than another, while another person considers all days alike. Let everyone be fully persuaded in his own mind. Whoever observes the day, observes it for the Lord. Also whoever eats, eats for the Lord, since he gives thanks to God; while whoever abstains, abstains for the Lord and gives thanks to God. None of us lives for oneself, and no one dies for oneself.

For if we live, we live for the Lord, and if we die, we die for the Lord; so then, whether we live or die, we are the Lord's. For this is why Christ died and came to life, that he might be Lord of both the dead and the living. Why then do you judge your brother? Or you, why do you look down on your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of God; for it is written: "As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bend before me, and every tongue shall give praise to God." So then each of us shall give an account of himself to God. Romans 14:1-12

Below is the message of Our Lord and Savior given to Joseph. Jesus spoke to him in these words,

"Accept every person even those who are weak in faith. They might have strange opinions and believe that only vegetables are good for him or her. They might prefer Friday instead of Monday or store food because they think the end of the world is near. You should not take that into account for they are only opinions. What is important is to believe in Me, their Savior, and follow what I have taught them.

Do not judge your brother or sister. Accept each person with love and be kind to each one. Do not judge and you will not be judged. Judgment brings condemnation upon you because you do not know the person interiorly. Only God knows the person completely and so He alone can judge. Live, My dear friends, only for Me. You belong to Me so in everything you do, do it for Me and you will be rewarded.

So, whether you live or die, remember you belong to Me. Put your faith into practice every day by your prayers, your good work and by going to Mass often and receiving Me in the Eucharist as often as possible. Do not follow the ways of the world because it rejects Me. Seek your Savior every day and I will help you. I embrace you all."

"Choose wisely"

Dear Friends,

Love fulfills the Law and Awareness of the End of Time

Owe nothing to anyone, except to love one another; for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. The commandments, "You shall not commit adultery; you shall not kill; you shall not steal; you shall not covet," and whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this saying, namely, "You shall love your neighbour as yourself." Love does no evil to the neighbour; hence, love is the fulfillment of the law.

And do this because you know the time; it is the hour now for you to awake from sleep. For our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed; the night is advanced, the day is at hand. Let us then throw off the works of darkness and put on the armour of light; let us conduct ourselves properly as in the day, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in promiscuity and licentiousness, not in rivalry and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the desires of the flesh. Romans 13:8-14

Here is a message from Our Lord and God given to Joseph. Jesus spoke to him in these words,

"It was Our Heavenly Father who gave the Ten Commandments to Moses on Mount Sinai and the Jews had to agree to follow the commandments so that the Old Covenant could be made between the Father and the Jewish people in the desert. I handed these same commandments to you and they are part of the New Covenant that I made in your name on the cross.

You cannot love Me if you do not follow the commandments. This is the proof that you love Me. My love for you is everlasting and I desire that you love Me in return.

You know that the end of time is approaching so it is time for you to wake up and follow Me. I will come to judge the living and the dead. Those who have followed Me will come with Me to heaven to everlasting bliss. However, those who refused to follow Me will go down to hell to everlasting suffering.

It is now time for you to choose the right path so you can be saved. Stop your sinful ways now and come into the light. I am the light that came into the world and I am calling you to come out of the darkness of sin into the marvelous light of the day of your Lord. Choose wisely and you will be rewarded."

Father Melvin

Message to Carol Ameche August 2, 2009

External locution through Carol at Ameche Prayer Group, August 2, 2009

"My dearest children, I am your God and Father. Thank you for the honor, the praise, the love in your prayers to Me this day. Thank you for honoring My special day, and I know that you will continue this throughout this month. Thank you for dedicating yourselves in a new and deeper way with your consecration to Me. Thank you, My children, for you.

Of course you are blessed beyond your understanding, beyond your ability to feel the magnitude of the blessing I pour out upon you now. It is very close, My children, to difficult events in the world, to change. Even though you have heard words of explanation, it will be difficult to live through the changes ahead of you, or even imagine completely enough what this will be like.

I invite you now to unite yourself more totally to My perfect will. It is only this and your adoration of My Son, your openness to Our Spirit that will see you through these times. Do not fear, My children. Just prepare. Just be joyful as I have said for years, My children. Be at peace, My dear ones. Be at peace in the unity we share in the Trinity and with the Holy Mother.

Just thinking about those words would help you to meditate upon the degree of giftedness you are being given. Just allowing silence to be your environment for a time every day will strengthen you like nothing else, and give you the trust that you have been praying for also for so many years; but you feel the change within yourselves. You feel the amount of trust you have received, have accepted.

What a help this is to you! What a balm to jangled nerves, to anticipation, to the very human task that you have chosen to figure out My plans and the timetable of Heaven! Perhaps you will give that up even more; because it has become exhausting to you, and it was never meant to be that you would have all of the answers. Else how could you practice Faith?

I love you so much, My children. Of course, you are My dear ones. I am so grateful for you, more and more; and I repeat this again, We are one. Unity with the Trinity is your buckler and shield, is your protection against Satan himself and all of his followers. The battle rages, My children. The battle is won. The victory is ours. Welcome to a new time of experiencing, of making progress in victory and in winning, My children. Amen. I say again, 'To arms'." Carol Ameche

Please mark Sept 26th on your calendar to join our group: Fr. Rene Gagnon, Carol Ameche, Collette Coloumbe, Sr. Yvette Barriauet for a glorious trip to the Holy Land where we will pray for the safety of each Shrine to the presence of Jesus' Life and Words, when He lived on the earth.

Jesus has said to my heart, "No matter what you hear as a reason for war in these areas, the real reason is the plans of the enemies of My Church to destroy any mention or sign of My Life when I was born as the Infant King and long awaited Messiah to the world, on their way to destroy Christianity from the earth." Please take advantage of this opportunity to beg for mercy on these Shrines and remembrances of Jesus' living and dying to obtain our salvation. August 7, 2009 - Ivan's Apparition at the Blue Cross at 10:00 p.m.

Though thousands of youth have left Medjugorje to return to their homes around the world over the last two days, there are still thousands of pilgrims in Medjugorje and many of them were present for Ivan’s apparition tonight at the Blue Cross.

It is always a beautiful sight to arrive at the foot of Apparition Mountain and see every space taken with pilgrims sitting on rough hewn rocks, while more and more pilgrims arrive navigating through the crowds to find their own place among the multitudes who have come to be with their Mother. All languages, all ages, all walks of life, are present.

The sunset in Medjugorje, this evening, August 7, 2009. It is a joy for those around the world to view the sunset in Medjugorje the same day it happened, and here at the Blue Cross just a few hours before the Queen of Heaven appeared. Just five days earlier, Our Lady appeared at this same spot to Mirjana, in which Mirjana saw the sun in the apparition, the first time this had ever happened to Mirjana in 28 years of apparitions.

Lights continually flashed onto the Blue Cross as pilgrims from all around the area searched out the cross to determine where Our Lady would be appearing, and how close in proximity they were to this location. At 9:30 p.m., after a period of singing, the Rosary was prayed, leading up to the 10:00 p.m. apparition.

The moon was at its fullest the night of Our Lady’s birthday, August 5th, and though now it is diminishing slowly, it was still full and bright enough to light up the village of Medjugorje making it easy for pilgrims to follow along the paths through the fields. For those who have been present at Ivan’s prayer group apparitions who have walked these paths instead of going on the roads or going home in cars, they know how special it was to walk these paths tonight in the moonlight.

Following is Ivan’s description of the apparition that took place tonight, August 7, 2009:

Most important from the meeting with Our Lady tonight is that Our Lady came joyful and happy and as always greeted all of us with Her motherly greeting, Praised be Jesus, my dear children. Then, with hands extended, She prayed over us and especially for the sick present. She then blessed us all with Her motherly blessing and then blessed all the articles brought for blessing.

Afterwards, Our Lady especially prayed tonight for vocations in the Church and for priests. I then recommended all of you, your needs and your families and then I prayed an Our Father and a Glory Be with Our Lady. Then a brief conversation followed. I spoke with Her and She with me. Then Our Lady left, in prayer, in an illuminated Sign of the Cross with a greeting: Go in peace, my dear children.

The crowds are thick around the Blue Cross on Apparition Mountain in Medjugorje even though it is still three hours before Our Lady will appear. Ivan said today in a talk to pilgrims that when Our Lady comes She brings part of Heaven to us. For this reason the visionaries have a difficult time letting go of Her after every apparition. Not just the visionaries, but all those who love of Our Lady, who count themselves blessed to be one of Her children.

Some of the faces that were present at tonight’s August 7, 2009 apparition, as they leave the apparition by the thousands. These are the faces that Our Lady called on two occasions tonight, My dear children. It’ a beautiful thing to be under the mantle of Our Lady in an apparition in Medjugorje and be claimed as one of Our Lady’s dear children.

Medjugorje Day By Day Aug 12 - PREPARE YOURSELVES IN PRAYER

"No more than one visit to the Blessed Sacrament is sometimes necessary to
change immediately the dispositions of a heart and to cause the sweetest repose
and full contentment to succeed the greatest trouble and sorrow. Many have
approached the Blessed Sacrament languishing and overwhelmed with grief, and
have returned replenished with strength, courage, and even alacrity and joy"
(Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen).

Mother Teresa -
God speaks in the silence of the heart, and we listen. And then we speak to God from the fullness of our heart, and God listens.

Meditations by Padre Pio - May the Heart of Jesus be the goal of all your inspirations. (ASN, 44)

Archbishop Fulton Sheen -
Speak up for virtue, clamp down on vice!

"The greatest responsibility falls on religious leaders whose message ought to be the message many want from politicians - the clarion call to restraint on evil influences and the showing forth of altruism and love of God."

St. Faustina's diary http://www.marian.org/directory_flash.html -
Jesus, when You come to me in Holy Communion, You Who together with the Father and the Holy Spirit have deigned to dwell in the little heaven of my heart, I try to keep You company throughout the day, I do not leave You alone for even a moment. Although I am in the company of other people or with our wards, my heart is always united to Him. When I am asleep I offer Him every beat of my heart; when I awaken I immerse myself in Him without saying a word.

When I awaken I adore the Holy Trinity for a short while and thank God for having deigned to give me yet another day, that the mystery of the incarnation of His Son may once more be repeated in me, and that once again His sorrowful Passion may unfold before my eyes. I then try to make it easier for Jesus to pass through me to other souls. I go everywhere with Jesus; His presence accompanies me everywhere. (486)

When I entered the chapel, once again the majesty of God overwhelmed me. I felt that I was immersed in God, totally immersed in Him and penetrated by Him, being aware of how much the heavenly Father loves us. Oh, what great happiness fills my heart from knowing God and the divine life! It is my desire to share this happiness with all people.

I cannot keep this happiness locked in my own heart alone, for His flames burn me and cause my bosom and my entrails to burst asunder. I desire to go throughout the whole world and speak to souls about the great mercy of God. Priests, help me in this; use the strongest words [at your disposal] to proclaim His mercy, for every word falls short of how merciful He really is. (491)

MEDJUGORJE DAY BY DAY

AUGUST 12 - PREPARE YOURSELVES IN PRAYER

On this day in 1988, in anticipation of the Assumption, Our Lady gave the following message to Ivan's prayer group:

Dear children, your Mother asks you to pray as much as you can during these two days. Prepare yourselves in prayer for the feast to come. Dear children, I would like to tell you to bring peace to other during these days. Encourage others to change. You cannot, dear children, give peace if you, yourselves, are not at inner peace. Tonight I give you peace. Give peace to others ! Dear children, be a light that shines.

I ask you pray the Glorious Mysteries when you go back to your homes tonight. Pray them in front of the cross (Visionary Prayer Group Message December 12, 1988).

The peace of prayer often comes in times of quiet and solitude. From Psalm 131:

O Lord, my heart is not lifted up, my eyes are not raised too high;

I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me.

But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; my soul is like the weaned child that is with me. Psalm 131:1-2

Reflection:

As the Madonna says today, prayer is the means to great love and peace. But if often requires solitude and quiet so that the tranquil presence of God's Spirit can be felt. From a poem by James Dillet Freeman:

Prayer is a state of being, like snowfall At night. As in the silence of yourself your pray, All thing particular, familiar, small Or large, dissolve and slowly melt away. Only the white perfection of your prayer Is there, enveloping all things, until The oneness of the One is everywhere. Nothing remains the same only the still, Only the peace of being, not so much Filling space as obliterating space, An emptiness and allness, like the touch Of snowfall in the night upon your face. But when your prayer ends and you rise and go, Your world shines new around you, like new snow.

Application:

Today, as the Virgin asks, begin preparing for the Assumption through quiet time in prayer; seek a place of solitude and rest in God's peace.

Medjugorje Day By Day Aug 11 - ST. CLARE OF ASSISI

"All the saints of history . . . have been distinguished for the love of Our
Lord in the Eucharist and for Mary . . . . So there is no canonized saint to
whom I cannot cry out with confidence to obtain for me a great love for Mary
so that I may borrow her Immaculate Heart to come closer to the Sacred Heart of
Our Lord in the Eucharist" (John Haffert).

Mother Teresa -
The fruit of Silence is Prayer.

The fruit of Prayer is Faith.

The fruit of Faith is Love.

The fruit of Love is Service.

The fruit of Service is Peace.

Meditations by Padre Pio - Accept all the suffering and incomprehension that comes from Above. In this way you will perfect and sanctify yourself. (FSP,119)

Archbishop Fulton Sheen -
Which direction has America taken? You be the judge!

"The latent power of blood and sweat and tears in our American youth will be captured within the next generation by one of the other forces: either by some political crackpot who will turn that desire for sacrifice into something like Nazism, Fascism, or Communism, or by our leaders, political, educational and moral who will first show self-discipline and moral courage in their own lives and thus give an example to others."

St. Faustina's diary http://www.marian.org/directory_flash.html -
September 29. The Feast of St. Michael the Archangel. I have become interiorly united with God. His presence penetrates me to my very depths and fills me with peace, joy, and amazement. After such moments of prayer, I am filled with strength and an extraordinary courage to suffer and struggle. Nothing terrifies me, even if the whole world should turn against me.

All adversities touch only the surface, but they have no entry to the depths, because God, Who strengthens me, Who fills me, dwells there. All the snares of the enemy are crushed at His footstool. During these moments of union, God sustains me with His might. His might passes on to me and makes me capable of loving Him.

A soul never reaches this state by its own efforts. At the beginning of this interior grace, I was filled with fright, and I started to give in to it; but very quickly, the Lord let me know how much this displeases Him. But it is also He, Himself, who set my fears at rest. (480)

O my God, I am conscious of my mission in the Holy Church. It is my constant endeavor to plead for mercy for the world. I unite myself closely with Jesus and stand before Him as an atoning sacrifice on behalf of the world. God will refuse me nothing when I entreat Him with the voice of His Son. My sacrifice is nothing in itself, but when I join it to the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, it becomes all-powerful and has the power to appease divine wrath. God loves us in His Son; the painful Passion of the Son of God constantly turns aside the wrath of God. (482)

MEDJUGORJE DAY BY DAY

These thoughts for a day are taken from a daily meditation book based on the Messages of Our Lady of Medjugorje by Father Richard J. Beyer, Ave Maria Press.

AUGUST 11 - ST. CLARE OF ASSISI

The following was given to Vicka one day when she was away from Medjugorje:

I bless you with the benediction of a Mother. Pray everyday and confide yourselves to my son, Jesus. In this way you will understand what God asks of each of you. (Special Message March 21, 1987).

St. Clare discovered in prayer the will of God for her, and this enabled her not only to live a holy life, but one marked by miracles as well From John's gospel:

Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father. I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If in my name you ask me for anything, I will do it (Jn 14:12-14).

Reflection:

Next to St. Francis of Assisi, St. Clare (1193-1253) was most responsible for the growth and spread of the Franciscan ideal which changed the face of the church in the 13th century.

Born in Assisi of wealthy parents, Clare heard a sermon by St. Francis when she was a teenager. It affected her to such a degree that she left home to join him and his followers, and to live the life of gospel poverty. Francis gave her the veil when she was 19 years old, and she was shortly joined by her two sisters and, later, her mother. Living at the convent at the church of San Damiano, Francis charged her under obedience to accept the office of abbess, which she then held for nearly 45 years until her death.

Clare's understanding of poverty, embodied in the Rule of Poor Clare Nuns, was designed to bring the individual into intimate union with Christ and away form all earthy attachments. She founded monasteries for her nuns in Italy, France, Germany and Hungary, and was credited with many miracles though out her life, notably the saving of her convent and the town of Assisi from the Saracen invaders.

St. Clare endured an illness for 30 years that confined her to the convent, yet she was known to be a spirited, energetic leader, always loving and kind toward her sisters. She was motivated always by her love of the gospel ideal of simplicity after the example of Christ. She died in 1253 and was canonized just two years later.

Application:

"Pray every day, "the Virgin says, "In this way you will understand what God asks of each of you. "Today, simply pray for this knowledge of God's will, as St. Clare did throughout her life.

Medjugorje Day By Day Aug 10- FALSE PROPHETS

"If the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, then we must love Jesus as
flesh and blood. Tell me what the phrase 'dwelt among us' can mean more perfectly
than His abiding Presence in our tabernacles?" (Fr. Leonard Feeney, M.I.C.M.).

Mother Teresa -
Love begins at home. Everything depends on how we love each other. Do not be afraid to love until it hurts, for this is how Jesus loved.

Meditations by Padre Pio - May Jesus be your guide, your support and your life, always and in everything! (ASN, 44).

Archbishop Fulton Sheen -
Pilgrimage toward the Ecstasy of Love

"Too many husbands and wives expect their partners in marriage to give what only God can give: eternal ecstasy. Yet if any man or woman could do that, he would be God. We are right to want the ecstasy of love; but if we expect to enjoy it through the flesh, which is merely on pilgrimage to God, we prepare ourselves for disappointment.

The first ecstasy of love is not an illusion; but it is only a kind of travel folder, a foretaste, a preview, urging body and soul to start the journey towards eternal joys. If the first ecstasy passes, this change is not an invitation to love another person, but to love in another way - and the other way is Christ's way, the way of Him Who said: 'I am the Way.'"

St. Faustina's diary http://www.marian.org/directory_flash.html -

Oh, how astonished I was, for everything the Father said about union with God and the obstacles to this union I had experienced literally in my soul and heard from Jesus, who speaks to me in the depths of my soul. Perfection consists in this close union with God. (457)

Throughout the whole retreat, I was in uninterrupted communion with Jesus and entered into an intimate relationship with Him with all the might of my heart. (467)

MEDJUGORJE DAY BY DAY

AUGUST 10 - FALSE PROPHETS

Regarding catastrophic predictions, Our Lady said:

That come from false prophets. They say,"such a day, on such a date, there will be a catastrophe, "I have always said that evil will come if the world does not convert itself. Call the world to conversion. Everything depends on your conversion (Locutionists Jelena & Mirijana December 15,1983).

Jesus also speaks of false prophets in Matthew's gospel:

Jesus answered them,"Beware that no one leads you astray. For many will come in my name, saying, `I am the Messiah!' and they will lead many astray (Mt 24:4-5).

Reflection:

"But not everyone who speaks on the spirit is a prophet, but only if he follows the conduct of the Lord. "This excerpt from the apocryphal Teaching of the Twelve Apostles is another way of putting the old adage, "actions speak louder than words, "or" by their fruit you shall know them."

The gauge of a teacher, prophet, or any Christian lies in his behavior rather than his words. Does he live the spirit of the scriptures ? Does he help others in concrete ways? Do his words and actions promote peace or dissention? Before placing any trust in would-be prophets, preachers, or evangelists, look carefully at their lives.

As Catholics, we are guided by the magisterium, or teaching arm, of the church, which has preserved the body of faith in its essential form since the time of Christ. Indeed, one of the chief responsibilities of the Pope and bishops is to teach and preserve this faith, passed down within the church by each succeeding generation. The Holy Spirit remains with us always, guiding and protecting the church's beliefs and teachings until the advent of the kingdom.

Application:

Today, recite the Apostles' Creed slowly and prayerfully, reflecting on the meaning of each phrase. The visionaries of Medjugorje report that it is the Virgin's favorite prayer.

SHORT POWERFUL PRAYER THROUGH ST. JOSEPH

"Glorious St. Joseph, tenderhearted father, faithful
guardian of Jesus, chaste spouse of the Mother of
God, I ask you to join me in praising God the Father
through His Divine Son who died on the cross and
rose again to give us sinners new life. Through the
Holy Name of Jesus, pray with me that we may obtain
from the eternal Father the favor we ask. (here
state your intention)."

Say this prayer for nine consecutive days.

Fear not! God is your shelter (the 23rd Psalm and the Lord’s Prayer. God never fails). Don’t fail him. Call on Jesus. Jesus on the mainline, tell him what you want!
